Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fabulous meal at Inati last night. Warm welcome from Angela who settled us in to the Inati lounge for a predinner drink before we joined the high seating at the bar for the Chef’s Choice 6 course meal. All decisions were left to the chef...once we identified any dislikes or allergies. Then a host of sharing plates arrived looking impressive but outdone by the flavours. Thanks, Matt, for helping us with wine choice.More

Absolutely loved this place! The food was magical – each dish packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. The cocktails – they were next level, beautiful sherbet, vanilla bean infused vodka- perfection. Creative, strong, and so good. Everything was spot-on, from the service to the...atmosphere. A solid five-star experience without a doubt. Also much better than the restaurants in Brisbane for value for money. I would come back to Christchurch just for this restaurantMore

Said to be the place to go for fine dining it is fair to highlight the positive. The one star is earned for an excellent wine selection. Time for some constructive suggestions. Your staff should not just regurgitate the scripted introductions, they should look you...in the eye and establish appropriate human interaction so you feel welcome - quite different from giving you the impression you should be grateful for having chosen the restaurant. Food portions should be slightly bigger and should resemble the elegance of your website. Hacking a finger thick tentacle off an octopus and serve with a dollop of something white looked so revolting that two of my guests would not touch it. You have to turn your focus from pretence to elegance. You also need to match your prices with your ambiance. The room is crowded like a roadside diner. 4 people - 8 minuscule samples of the chef’s limited skill combined with modest helpings of wine cost over $900. An underwhelming and overpriced evening, not to be repeated.More

We loved our evening at Inati. Excellent food, wine, service, atmosphere. Caters to a sophisticated crowd. Bold flavors and beautiful food theater.

The separation of front of house from back of house was never so evident in our visit to this diner. Despite having a confirmed reservation The maître d’ chose to disregard this fact and explain away our loss of the table because they were busy....In fact after moving us to the lounge to wait for an available table we were displaced from our perch ( because another group needed the space) under the guise that our table was ready , this even before our drinks arrived. In fact there was no table and we were seated at the counter elbows to elbows with our neighbours at the same location that was empty when we arrived some minutes earlier. It was obvious they were trying to displace us from already reserved table! The front of house sheriff with the customer service skills of an attack dog was totally non empathetic, nor apologetic of the situation which to be fair may have been outside of her control. However no attempt to accommodate or offer the minimal compensation ( ie a house cocktail which was already ordered) was made . It was certainly apparent by her body language and tone of conversation that it was us the client with the long confirmed reservation that should be great full that we could get a seat anywhere. Well the client is not and should not be “great full” your success depends on us. When this becomes unclear or when the establishment feels it’s more important then the client the downhill spiral , not uncommon in the restaurant industry begins. It’s the dog that wags the tail not the tail wagging the dog! Forget that at your peril. Was the food good? Can’t say as we didn’t stay. However may I suggest that the owners( not the managers) put some consideration into ensuring staff representing their establishment has the basic customer service skills and respect for clients that we the paying customer deserves. As far as service and respect for customers goes you get better at the Mac Donald’s down the road and who knows the food may even be comparable! Can’t sayMore

We came here for dinner on our two night break to Christchurch, it was was one of the biggest highlights of the trip! The majority of seating is arranged at the countertop around the open kitchen. The stools are quite high to get up onto,...so best to notify in advance if you need a low table or have accessibility issues. The restaurant is in a compact yet sophisticated modern space. We didn't order a fixed menu, just a la carte, although they were able to come up with a fantastic array of vegetarian dishes - some on the menu, some not. Everything was spot on, we loved some courses more than others, although everything was an experience! Some of our favourite dishes were the confit potato dish, the celeriac toast one and the mushroom tiramisu. We had an incredibly considerate and cheerful younger guy looking after us for the night who helped to navigate the menu and provided useful wine suggestions. The only downside was being seated directly beside the only other couple in the restaurant when we arrived (we were there on an early booking). Such an impressive night and a big recommendation for fellow foodie travellers (or locals).More

Unexpected dinner our at Inati....was absolutely fabulous. We felt looked after from the moment we walked in the door. Great gin recommendations before the meal. Super hosting and when we gave feedback on one course, it was graciously accepted, we were given a complimentary (delicious)...dish and the evening continued with super food and equally super hosts! Thank you.More

The majority of dishes were beautiful, fantastic service, simple things let it down, like changing the plate between dishes (we did the 8 course with matching wine) to ensure the dishes tasted sublime. The duck breast in one of our dishes was a little tough....We would most definitely come back as the flavour was beautiful especially the duck trumpets and aubergineMore

We were looking forward to a wonderful meal our last night in NZ. We had been traveling all throughout this beautiful country and found many delightful restaurants served by waiters who strived to make our dining the experiences memorable. Unfortunately for us, Inati did not...come close to what we were anticipating. Our waiter seemed to be in a hurry to get someplace else and spoke in a very rapid Kiwi accent it was like translating someone speaking to you in thick cockney accent. The food was delicious, portions very small. The “large” plate of lamb was yummy with size of each slice (4) the size of a US silver dollar. The waiter was completely disinterested in any feedback and acted as though we were lucky to be there. When I suggested they give a more fitting description of the “large” plate, such as a medallion of lamb, he became very defensive and stated it is a loin of lamb; however, the menu fails to describe it as such. My husband and I thought it interesting that he had absolutely no interest in relaying our opinions to the chef—at least he didn’t indicate that he would communicate our feedback about the lamb. On the other hand, he was VERY keen on pushing the alcohol and wine. We left Inati with a bad taste in our mouths and would not recommend this over-inflated restaurant. A 3 star is a generous rating for this bloated place. Another interesting tidbit to note: to have the privilege of a reservation, it is required to leave credit card information with the commitment to spend at least $100. Trust me when I say, you will easily spend at least twice that (for small plates) for two people.More

My two friends and I agreed, this was a 10 dining experience. Matthew could not have been more attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The menu had a nice range of options for a group with varied palates. Our bourbon drinker was most impressed with the Buffalo...Trace offering. Accommodating a vegetarian was no trouble, and there was a surprise "trust us" veggie treat delivered. For the quality and uniqueness, we all thought it was a great value as well.More
