How nice to see the China Kitchen reopen after 18 months closed due to a fire. New premises and the décor is lovely with beautiful hand painted walls. The restaurant was full and the staff still gave us excellent service and the food is very tasty. Their well known dumplings do not disappoint. This is our go to Chinese restaurant so we will definitely be dining again. Thank you China Kitchen Team for your great services.

We visited the China Kitchen recently and weren't made to feel at all welcome. The food was good, as it usually is, but the service was far from perfect. The young waitress that took our order was friendly and attentive. We wanted to confirm that the noodles were gluten free to which she relied yes there was a chicken dish with gluten free noodles, which we ordered. We ordered another couple of dishes and were enjoying our meal when an older lady, presumably the owner, came over and interrupted our meal. She was very loud and very rude - telling us we should make sure every dish we ordered was gluten free. She did not need to interrupt our meal in this way, as we were happy with our choices. It put a dampener on the evening. At the same time staff were closing up the restaurant and clearly ready to go home for the evening - even though we were well within the opening hours on the door. A very disappointing experience and I WON'T be returning here.

We had a great night at The China Kitchen. We were a party of eight and we opted for the Set A menu and we couldn’t fault it. The food was delicious with authentic flavours and the portions were generous. We sat at a round table which was great for easy conversation. BYO wine is an added bonus. The service was great and the team were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!

Group of 10 waited for an hour before meals started to appear at the table.Over the next 15 minutes 9 meals arrived and an hour and a half later the last meal arrived cold and greasy.A very disappointing meal for a special occasion.
Don't go there,find a restaurant that will appreciate your business and serve delicious hot food instead of cold greasy muck and poor staff service.

Hello, we're very sorry that you did not enjoy your experience at our restaurant. We regret to say that we did forget one meal for your table, but prioritised the cooking of this as soon as we realised. Should you face any issues in the future, please let our staff know as soon as possible so that we can cook another meal for you. We offered a $10 voucher to you at the end of the night. We hope this can somewhat make up for your experience.

Have tried umpteen restaurants in Christchurch searching for an excellent sweet and sour, mostly in vain, though Midnight Shanghai, Bensons and Cathay cĂ me fairly close. Finally China Kitchen delivered. Luscious cubes of pork with vegetables and a well balanced sauce. No batter hallelujah. He had the chicken with veggies and cashews which he loved. Very happy, will be our go to for the foreseeable.

WE usually go on a week night, but our luck was in when we got the last two seats in the house on Saturday evening. Plenty of natural noise, so thank goodness no annoying "background" music. No more wait time then during the week - the place ran like a well-oiled machine , with the ever-smiling waitresses seemingly never faltering. Tables of seven and eight gave many and diverse orders, with no hitch at all. The food was wonderful, as usual. Thanks to the great team at CK

Delightful waitresses, very helpful and obliging. The food was generous, well presented and very high quality enjoyed by all of our party of four. A very busy night which made conversation difficult as all tables were taken and nose levels were high. However, that will not stop us from returning.

Really good authentic Chinese food and great value. Staff were efficient and pleasant. And it’s BYO so you can bring a nice bottle of wine. Highly recommended.

Tried the dumplings which at old restaurant were stunning these were bland and tasteless...then had the duck curry which was full of duck fat and meat very little meat ..Got the duck stir fried rice to take home was better

This is a well run and organized place. Service is attentive without being to much over the top.
Food is excellent, and the 18.00 dishes great value for money.

Glad that China Kitchen are open again. We love coming here for the dumplings. Nice new decor. Was very busy when we went on a Tuesday for dinner but still fast service.
