Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Visited here a couple of times during my trip to Christchurch. The service was friendly and quick. The food was really lovely. Good menu and nice selection of dishes. Prices are very reasonable. Location is great. Well worth a visit.

As a family we really enjoyed our visit here. We came in with the intentions of a hot drink and some fries for the kids. And we received these. Lots of lovely outdoor seating options, which we chose for today. Inside there are two stories, again, lots of seating options. Very attractive décor, clean and nicely presented. There is a small selection of cabinet food, all displayed attractively. There is also blackboards and menus to choose from. I would give this café almost full marks and the things that made it a 4 out of 5 would be the service and the brownie. The staff were professional, efficient, effective, prompt and fast in delivery. However, not so friendly. They weren’t unfriendly, just not warm or over welcoming. I asked for the brownie to be heated, at the potential risk that it might be hard (not to my preference), and it was heated, but still it was hard and a bit dry. Our coffees that we had were perfect and wonderful. The fluffies for the kids were amazing, they went all out with the sprinkles, marshmellows and chocolate fish. And as for the kids fries – OMIGOSH! WOW! Spectacular! These exceeded our expectations and were honestly the cutest most wonderful fries we have ever ordered for kids – they were serviced on a plastic Minnie Mouse platter :) Thank you. We would return here again if ever on New Regent Street and am happy to recommend. Just needs a little bit of improvement in the smile department ;)

We were in Christchurch for a conference and were out and about and came across this charming restaurant/cafe. Lots of people already seated outside, always a good reason to visit! I had quiche and a cheese scone, the others had burgers and coffee. These meals were absolutely delicious, had the 'x' factor and overall we were very impressed with Cafe Stir. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, we would fully recommend this cafe and will be back! Thank you again

On a recent family trip to the garden city we ventured onto picturesque New Regent street several times for brunch including twice at Cafe Stir (we also visited Caffeine Laboratory and Belle). It’s the pick of those three in our opinion - not quite as hip maybe but the food was consistently good, well presented and friendly service. Large and varied menu also.

Popped in here for lunch with my daughter after a shopping trip - nice position, nice staff, nice coffee and, for my daughter, a nice pulled pork burger. However, we waited nearly forty minutes for our food to arrive and my order of smashed avocado with poached eggs and bacon, was absolutely awful.....where do I start! Everything was luke warm or cold, yolks of poached eggs were so solid I could hardly cut into them, bacon was limp and unappetising and the toast was almost cremated - again I couldn't cut it! It was pretty much a disaster plate of food so I felt that I had to tell them about it on leaving. The excuse was that 'well lots of people all came in at the same time, so we were busy' - well, now, it was lunch time and you should be able to cater for as many tables as you have, inside and out. We noticed that they even forgot one lady's order altogether. I said that there is absolutely no excuse for cold food because they can keep anything warm in a kitchen, but the young lady just repeated 'lots of people came in at the same time'! Won't be rushing back. I'm sure when they are good, they are very good but when they are bad, they are awful!

We hopped-off the Tram here (stop #17) and had tea; we came back later that day for lunch and a few days later for Sunday brunch. On each occasion the staff were lovely, helpful, efficient and always smiling. You can sit outside under giant umbrellas (and almost touch the Trams as they pass) or inside. There is seating upstairs as well and from the balcony you get some great views of the street and Trams as they pass by. Quite an extensive menu from the all day breakfast through to burgers, fish & chips, sandwiches etc. Toilets are inside, and up a flight of stairs.

Looking for a light lunch after a early start and a long morning we called into Cafe Stir as the menu looked very appealing. A great coffee to start followed by what we thought was a small lunch of Hoki bites and chips, value for money is definitely to be found here! The fish was melt in the mouth and the chips had a light crispy outer and a nice soft inner. The staff were friendly and helpful, definitely recommend a visit.

Cafe stir is a cute spot on a cool street in the heart of Christchurch. Take away options as well as made to order. Simple and solid.

Lovely little cafe in New Regent Street. Had an amazing seafood chowder with garlic bread. Great place to have a coffee and watch the world go by.

Lovely little cafe on a lovely little street in a lovely little city. Yummy BLT, great wifi, handy Power plug for a laptop recharge and choice of indoor/outdoor up/down stairs. Decor was awesome too, love the photos.

Probably should of looked at reviews first, business has nice street appeal, but coffee was average and the custard slice that accompanied it was at least a couple of days old, very dry. Scored 3 but more like 2.5

In our time in Christchurch we came here twice! The service is outstanding. Indoor and outdoor seating with great views of New Regent Street and the tram. There is a huge variety of food from breakfasts to burgers and pizzas! The pulled pork burger was the stand out for us!
