Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Food was disappointing , the protein was processed meat and not fresh , the pork and prawn dumpling was dense and chewy , chicken fried rice with hardly any chicken but the scallion pancake was nice . Good home made chilli sauce on the table too . I can still taste the processed meats 24 hours later which is not nice at all and for that reason I won’t be returning, not cheap either !

Went in for dinner. Eat Asian food regularly so had enjoyed the dishes we ordered before at other restaurants. The staff struggled to understand our requests in English or Mandarin. Food came out burnt badly, tools for eating meal were inadequate, wrong dish came to our table, service from kitchen very slow despite few patrons and place was cold.

The service is good and i just love the food here, have been several times and its always great. Its a little pricier than a yum cha lunch elsewhere but it delivers on quality and flavour. Love xiao long buns... yummy.

Popped in for a bite for lunch. Ordered two lots of dumplings (prawn and chicken) as well as pork bao buns. Probably too much for just the two of us but we managed to finish. Crispy, succulent dumplings (and the prawn ones were full to bursting). Perfectly steamed bao buns with crispy strips of crumbed pork in a barbecue sauce ... superb. Will definitely return.

Everything was delicious, best pork dumplings and spicy pork soup. My husband had bbq pork noodles and pork buns, he said they were amazing! Can't fault anything about these dishes! Would definitely go here again if I'm in Christchurch. Great friendly staff, very attentive and food was served fast. Highly recommend this place.

I often eat here at lunch time and there is nothing nicer than their pan fried shrimp dumplings embellished with Uncle Norman's spicy relish.and a stubbie of Tsing Tau. We have also eaten here as a family for dinner. With a little warning Uncle Norman had a whole roasted duck as a centre piece for our table. Prices are reasonable and the quality is high. Service is friendly and reasonably quick.

Another great meal from this place. Food is excellent but go early as they seemed a little short staffed. I always go for the pork dumplings fried but the other food is also lovely. A good value meal can be had here.

The wonton nooedle soup was a let down compared to what I've had in other Asian restaurants. The broth lacked flavour and the added veges were boring - two hunks of brocoli, two hunks of carrot. It would have been nice to have something a bit more Asian, e.g. bok choy or bean sprouts, spring onion etc. The pork in the spicy pork noodle soup was actually pork fat with no attached meat. Dumplings were served without a dipping sauce. There was soy sauce and chilli on the table but no vinegar and no little dish to mix the condiments in. The soy sauce on the table seemed watered-down and tthe container it was in was very dirty... clearly hadn't been wiped for a very long time. Tables weren't being cleared or cleaned. The restaurant was cold - all the customers were wearing jackets. There was no toilet paper in the loo. The service was really poor - we weren't offered water, drinks, chopsticks, The waitress was one of the snarliest I've ever encountered. We eat at Asian restaurants regularly - this was our first time to go to this one. We are never going back.

Can't find words to describe how delicious the steamed dumplings are here in the Shanghai Street Dumplings house!!!! The food was extremely fresh and the taste was authentically good!!!! The lady boss was so friendly and she had a lot of regular customers to go there everyday. She kindly asked us that how come she had never seen us before and we told her that we were just taking vacation here for short time. She told us to ensure to come back visit her more often from now on and we told her we definitely would. Unlike the owner of "You Hanoi Me", Mr. Jason Whitelaw, he was ignorant and ridiculously unprofessional! We posted a negative review about his restaurant and the rude service of the receptionist on Google. Just because he did not like to see the neggativeness so he replied us to say we were "uneducated and immature" since we voiced out the fact on Google?! We love this restaurant and for sure, we will come back to visit the lady boss and her dumplings again!!!

We had the chicken dumplings to start, which were packed with flavour. For mains we had the Singapore noodles which by appearance looked very ordinary were packed with incredible flavour.

The food was good but everything else was so disappointing. The restaurant was freezing cold, it was impossible to get a drink- the one we did manage to get had to last us all evening. The food came out slowly and inconsistently, with the server no knowing was dish was what. No napkins, chopsticks or sauces offered- we had to go and find these ourselves. No offer of tea/coffee or dessert. Really disappointing.
