My husband and I LOVE coming to Mumbaiwala.
We are always greeted by excellent staff of whom are always happy to provide assistance with the menu or to answer any questions.
The menu is fantastic, for myself being vegetarian the amount of choice I have is simply incredible. I would highly recommend the cauliflower and Malai Broccoli entrees and for main the paneer Karahi is delicious. We love coming to Mumbaiwala, highly recommend and will be back again soon!
Thank you!

Really enjoyed eating here, so much so, that we returned the following evening.
Imaginative cocktails, some Indian inspired and a wide selection of most bar drinks.
Staff were lovely, friendly, helpful and did their level best to ensure our comfort. The spice level was perfect. We also really liked the ability to watch the kitchen and noticed all chefs and kitchen staff looked immaculate.
I would highly recommend and add our thanks to everyone for making us welcomed and above all serving tantalising dishes. Would love to return, but our stay has come to an end. Can get busy so a booking may be advisable.

My wife and I were in Christchurch in February 2020 and found this restaurant by chance. We decided to venture in for lunch and were greeted by a gentleman who appeared to be the manager, maybe the owner. Once seated at the table of our choice, a young lady answered our questions about the menu (how hot some items were, the differences between items, ingredients, etc.). She was knowledgeable and friendly in her responses, even asked the chef one of our questions that she wasn't sure of. Our meals were very good and much enjoyed by both of us. Quantity and quality were more than satisfactory. I'd go back if I ever get the chance!

Sorry guys. Was hoping for a good Indian meal at the end of our 2 week trip to New Zealand. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be
Starters were good because they were made fresh. Wali boti (never heard of that curry before..?) and Bombay aloo were microwaved from the night before. Daal was passable. Naan were not naan but tandoori roti’s
I understand they don’t normally open for lunch on Saturdays, so perhaps I caught them on a bad day, but no excuse. If you charge this kind of money you need to serve fresh food.
Also, toilets were in terrible condition

we all love Indian food, and there were a lot of 'bests' tonight. The Sali Boti was absolutely amazing. Best chicken tikka we've had in...who knows how long. Best biryani I've had since a trip to India last year - with HUGE chunks of chicken. All the spices tasted so fresh, with a real depth of flavour. Possibly now spoiled for any other Indian options. Wait there's more - really lovely garlic naan, not too doughy, the prawn entree was like nothing I've ever tasted, and the service was super friendly and attentive. Incredibly happy customers, can't wait to come back.

We had such a great visit to Mumbaiwala. The food was just delicious and the wait staff were so kind and helpful with such big smiles. Really enjoyed the vibe of the place, from the restaurant itself to the toilets even. We had such a great evening and will be back for sure!

We booked this restaurant for our last night in the South Island as we fancied a change. We eat lots of Indian food in England so had good expectations of a good meal. This little restaurant had excellent reviews on Trip Advisor so we hoped for yummy food. We were made to feel so welcome on arrival and were looked after so well throughout the evening by all the staff who walked past our table. If you get the chance sit on the high benches and watch the kitchen - the chefs look so efficient and move around so quietly as well as managing to keep their whites so clean (something I need to work hard on upon my return home!!).
We selected three small dishes from the street kitchen menu and the Dabbawala special as a main. The main was yummy but two of the small plates were super yummy - the squid bhajee and the cauliflower Manchurian.
Make sure you book as this really is not a place to miss out on!

A virgin leeches and pomegranate mojitos for $10, good but to sweet for me ...
I got the special for 2 peoples but actually I almost finish everything by myself for $36 its a bit expensive ... but it was good and middle spicy was just a bit for me... it miss some taste.

My son and I visited Mumbaiwala last night.
We were travelling from Dunedin to Christchurch for a Holiday.
We had to leave mid way through our Dinner experience.
We arrived at 7.00pm.
Simply put, this was one of the worst Customer services experience.
We order 3 Appetisers (Entrees) which turned up within 15 minutes of ordering along with our Drinks.
Finished the entrees and that's it.
We had 3-4 staff around cleaning up and serving a couple of other customers.
We just keep waiting for some staff to turn up to clear off the entree dishes and take our Mains order. After nearly 30 minutes of waiting, we decided to get up and leave.
We did make it very clear to the person at the counter at the time of payment, this was totally unacceptable and left.

I was visiting Christchurch with family and friends for my 60th birthday and knowing my love of Indian cuisine, my daughter chose Mumbaiwala for our celebratory dinner. I was not disappointed- friendly staff, nice decor and simply the best Indian I have had in NZ!. I highly recommend the Goan Fish and Prawn with plump sweet prawns and a delicious sauce it’s hard to beat and the Manchurian Cauliflower is a taste sensation not to miss. My biggest regret is that I don’t live in Christchurch as I would give up on cooking at home and simply dine here all the time!.

We ate at Mumbaiwala this evening and the food was delicious. We were served by Karan who did a great job recommending a few dishes which we thoroughly enjoyed. The food is fresh and full of gorgeous flavours. Really recommend this restaurant for its food, service and atmosphere.

We booked online and pleased we did on Easter Saturday because the place was humming when we arrived about 6.15pm - a little earlier than our 6.30pm booking. We were shown to our table immediately but walk-ins had to wait for tables to vacate. The atmosphere and decor are worthy of a visit. The wait staff were so friendly and we loved the recommendations. We decided on trying 3 street food shared plates because we weren't overly hungry. We tried the Prawn Poliwada, Mumbai Chicken and Dabeli. The dishes arrived quite promptly with the Dabeli a little after the first two dishes. Tasty, spicy and as described. We also enjoyed a beer and the alcoholic mango lassi cocktail with malibu and bailey's - devine! The toilets are definitely worth checking out!

Unlike most who advertise 'authentic' this Restaurant actually is pretty close to the real street food of Mumbai (and yes I have eaten street food in Mumbai). Easy menu, gentle service and a buzzy atmosphere. Great vegan menu.
If you like your curry to be swimming in gravey/sauce and 1/2 kilo of rice then dont go here, its way better than that.
