Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We dined in this restaurant as a tour group during a Monday evening close to Christmas. Upon arrival, we were escorted to the top floor, which was quite crammed as it has 3 tables in total. The food was on average only- the vegetables with prawn-like sauce (the sauce) was too spicy, and the other cuisines were not very Thai-themed, in my opinion. Service was also on average only. The food came very quickly, which resulted in no space to accommodate more food/ dishes on our table, and staff were not too attentive- I had to get bowls for our group when we proceeded to drink our Tom Yam Soup. Overall, an average meal, and things could be improved for a better stay.

Visited this place whilst on tour in Christchurch and was disappointed overall. The Chicken and cashews was quite expensive and was coated in breadcrumbs thicker than the chicken itself. Service was good and friendly Portions were not large

We found this little eatery on the trendy New Regent Street, and were really impressed with the food. The decor is not great, and it is a bit cramped, but you can sit outside and watch the world and the trams go by at close quarters. The food: we ate green and red curries, beef and chicken, and Pad Thai chicken and beef. Tom yum soup as well. We had 3 meals in 3 days and each was excellent. The vegetables are fresh and crunchy, the meat tender, and the sauces adjusted for heat to your taste. They add no MSG, so it’s only the actual ingredients that flavour the food. Service can be a little slow, but is really friendly. This is a family-run eatery, and they are good.

Read some great reviews online, so were considering dinner here as we recently moved into the neighborhood. However, as we were passing this day, decided to stop in for lunch. Lunch is a cheaper and limited menu, not uncommon, but perhaps we lucked out because it was lunch?? Ordered spring rolls 'to start', and chicken cashew for main. Both arrived at the same time. Spring rolls were more roll than spring, we didn't finish. Cashew chicken came with no cashews. After inquiring about the absence of cashews we were given a separate bowl of cashews. Perhaps the restaurant is under new ownership? It seemed staff working on the day were only there filling in time. The restaurant closed for lunch at 2pm, and they were keen for us to be gone. We are gone ;(

First night in town and wanted something quick to take to the room. Delicious smells were wafting down the street and we figured out it was here. Welcoming hostess took our order and had it ready to go in about 15 minutes. Good flavors in the sauces and the prawns were fresh tasting and cooked just right.

Delicious Thai food in cozy quarters. Very friendly staff. Most tables are up a winding staircase. Three tables downstairs and a table or two outside. Our meal was a birthday celebration so we added the homemade coconut ice cream. It was excellent. Remember to check the specials board. We had Roti with peanut sauce from the specials.

Service was great. The Cheeky Beef Curry was tasty, very rich and a small serving but if it was larger it would be way too much richness for me. The garlic and chili veg was tasty to start but none of the food had really taken on the flavours. For the 2 dishes our dinner bill was over $60, pricey for average Thai food.

All the usual Thai fare served by friendly and attentive staff. Cosy surroundings in a quirky street. We ate downstairs but heard plenty of complements being passed to the staff about the upstairs decor by customers coming downstairs to pay.

We had a Pad Thai and Green Curry, both tasted fantastic! The veges were crisp and not overcooked, and the flavours very fresh and not overly spicy or sweet. I had a generous sized gin and tonic too. The service was friendly and food delivered promptly. The atmosphere inside is cosy (albeit a bit cramped) but easily overlooked due to the deliciousness of the meal! Very reasonably priced too.

This place is tiny but the food was really good, particularly the duck red curry and the beef cheek curry. I felt sorry for the party sat near the door. With people coming and going and crowding round to pay it was pretty cramped downstairs, but as long as you’re upstairs it’s not a problem.

... Authentic Thai food, lunch menu a bit overpriced, if you're vegetarian you pay same as meat eaters. Should be 3 dollars less. Anyway, it was good, but as it is much cheaper at Thai Orchid, I may stay there. But will check next month vegetarian options again. Also there should be tofu on the vegetarian panang curry.

The name certainly sums it up! I couldn’t climb the narrow stairs but fortunately a table at ground level was available. I had the duck curry which was excellent. Service was quick and I think you have to expect limited English in a Thai restaurant - it’s part of the ethnic dining experience. I enjoyed my experience.

Recommended by reception staff at the Rendezvous Hotel, this is a great little Thai restaurant just around the corner on New Regent Street. A bit too cold for us to sit outside, we ate downstairs though there was space upstairs. Satay chicken and spring rolls were delicious starters and the chicken cashew dish was wonderful. The green curry though was really good, the flavours were subtle and it tasted just wonderful. It’s not the most up-market looking restaurant, the décor is tired, worn and a little cramped but boy is the food good. Many thanks.

Lovely! Very attentive and friendly staff, really delicious food and great value! It is quite a small space so you are a little squeezed in so be prepared - but totally worth it! Now firmly on our list for another visit!

We were most disappointed. We had a satay style dish that was insipid. We had asked for a coffee but she had to rush upstairs to speak to someone. Her English was appalling. Eventually someone else turned up with limited English too and we ended up cancelling the coffees. Not a pleasant experience.
