Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A lovely Indian restaurant close to the airport. We enjoyed the meal thoroughly, though wouldn’t say it was exceptional. Heart warming, fulfilling and very enjoyable. Must commend the service, everyone was extremely helpful and courteous which upped our experience by a notch. We had the...paneer, chicken, kaali daal, garlic naan, and some other stuff - everything was excellent. In case you’re close to the airport or looking for a meal thereabouts then this is your place. Enjoy!More

Very lovely food and people. Sat for lunch with my girlfriend. Had Chicken Korma and garlic naan. My girlfriend had a delicious vegetarian dish that I can't remember the name of, but it was the best vegetarian I've ever tasted. Definitely recommend any veggie dish....I was also surprised by how generous the portion sizes were. The staff were very kind and treated us well making sure we were taken care of.More

We were at Little India, Spitfire - near Christchurch airport. The food was very good, but the service was way below average. We had to ask for our rice (which was part of our meal). All staff delivered to tables, then left with their heads...and eyes down, without any attempt to check on other customers tables. So we had to go and find them to ask for our rice, and then again for the drinks menu, and then again when we wanted to order a drink off the menu. There was no follow up on diners tables. The guy, whom we assume was the manager was particularly rude; and made no attempt to even smile or interact. The female staff were at least friendly. An error was made when we went to pay. The female staff tried to sort the problem, and were apologetic. The manager was rude, never apologized, and even asked one of us to pay for something we hadn't ordered, which he said he would then refund it! He was shockingly rude.More

We only had one day in Christchurch and had already been into town twice so decided to walk to this nearby restaurant near the airport. Our expectations were low but the food was excellent. We had the Palak Paneer and the Malai Kofta. The service...was friendly and the decor was interesting in a good wayMore

Please do not go if you are a strict vegan. I went to eat at this restaurant during my layover at the Christchurch Airport. I am a strict vegan and i ordered the vegan thali (vegetarian thali, vegan on request). The manager was kind and...had no problems with it, i waited for maybe 10 minutes and the thali was brought to me. It looked amazing, a good spread for a vegetarian thali, but because of this i was a little suspicious of it being vegan. The manager placed the thali on my table and went to the cash register. I called him back to confirm that the thali was vegan, he confirmed that it is (although he denies remembering that he confirmed this). Anyway, having received confirmation i was very happy with the thali and even clicked a photo of it to show my other vegan friends what little India can provide on a vegan thali. I digged into the thali, and when i was taking the second bite the manager comes back telling me that the thali isn't vegan (i appreciate him doing this, some people wouldn't have corrected the mistake). He took the plate away and brought me another thali 5 minutes later (although a lot less impressive than the previous one). I finished my meal and went to the register to pay for the meal and express my concern about how the first thali turned out. My anger was not on the mistake of him bringing a vegetarian thali when i asked for a vegan one, but confirming that it is vegan when it wasn't, even if the manager was unaware (would've appreciated a double check with the chef). My anger then increased when the manager started being defensive, saying that i didn't even eat any of the non vegan thali(when i had) and also saying that he doesn't remember confirming that it was vegan. Anyway the manager accepted that it was a mistake and insisted that the meal was free, even though i insisted to pay. While i appreciate this gesture, the carelessness around providing for a dietary restriction was extremely unprofessional, specially when claiming that it is vegan. Anyway, big rant over. I would suggest against this place if you are a strict vegan. Unless the restaurant does become better at this.More

Have been to this restaurant twice. First time was fantastic even though incredibly busy. We still got served quickly and the staff were so helpful. Food was delicious. The second time we went was less busy… food wasn’t quite as good and the staff weren’t...quite as friendly. However, we’d still go again, based on our first visit.More

An hour for a take away order 🤬 I spent the time writing this review. Normally food is very good, but the place wasn’t overly busy so why the long wait?

We went here with friends for dinner. We all had something different and we all enjoyed our meals. Service was very good. Plenty of parking at this shopping centre. There were no other customers in the restaurant, unfortunately . With many of the nearby hotels...being COVID quarantine hotels it will be a struggle to attract customers at the moment. I hope business starts to pick up soon for them. The food is good and they deserve custom. We will return.More

I had dined at Little India Merivale before but not here at Spitfire Square. We were a group of 4 - two Kiwis and two Indian-Kiwis. My Kiwi friends had rogan josh while my wife and I had vegetarian thali. Both were tasty and more...than adequate in quantity. The veg thali had aloo-matar (potato-peas) and shahi paneer (cottage cheese) curries, together with butter-roti, rice, raita, pickle. Rogan josh was served with naan and rice. Everything was sumptuous and nice. Service by Pradyumna was courteous. The ambience of the place is good. Parking is just outside and easy. All in all, a good first experience.More

Due to COVID-19 we were forced to stay another night and staff at the Novetal recommended this restaurant for us. A nice walk over and we were warmly welcomed here for dinner. Service and food were excellent. Another nice surprise when the wait staff brought...our bill they noticed charges on the bill apologized before we saw the bill and corrected same. Due to the above experinces go here for an enjoyable night out.More

What happened to Indian food that was full of spicy flavour? The food is average and has been "westernized" so much some of the dishes tasted like they would out of a bottle at the supermarket. The food was good but not amazing. When we...arrived the staff were more intent on taking phone orders so we had to wait ten minutes being ignored even though we were booked. All in all a pretty average effort.More
