We had the best value meals at Dodson St. A big bowl of meaty hearty german goulash with bread for $15 . I had the pork schnitzel with trimmings, fries and lovely salad for $15. Fabulous meals.
We loved the five tasting platter beer - with about 24 to choose from it was a wonderful way to spend an evening.
It was pretty busy on a thursday evening (with locals) which just goes to show how popular and good it is.
Highly recommend for a historical place, with lots of character, good meals and try some new beers. Cheers!

Lots of character to this place in a semi-industrial, semi-residential area on the north side of town. As you might expect, it has the feel of a Bavarian beer hall, from the layout and decor to the menu and some German staff. We visited at night so everyone was indoors, in a number of different spaces. On a Tuesday night, the place was busy. It is clearly popular with the locals. I chose the seafood chowder - at $15, a tasty, filling bowl with plenty of seafood in it. My husband went for the beef roulade which came with a generous serving of mash. Afterwards we shared a cheese board. Lots of choice of beers but less of other drinks, but that is probably not surprising. Efficient service, meals came out in good time and we felt we had good value for money. For something just a bit different than your average pub meal, this makes a great choice.

The Food, atmosphere, value, menu range and cleanliness all rate 5/5 the service was a bit of a let down 3/5. Waiter was quite pleasant until I made a simple serving request to accommodate an eating disorder and all of a sudden waiter wasn't as friendly. They appeared to be puzzled and stressed by the simple request despite explaining it was for eating requirements and had the tone of "this is ridiculous" come over her, then all of a sudden rudely told me to slow down when I was talking despite talking in exact speed prior to request. Never come across this before. Whole demeaner and tone of waitress changing. Needless to say it made us a bit uncomfortable. Other than that we were happy. Loved the meals and the other staff behind counter were friendly and kind.

Hi
Our very busy restaurant generates welcoming natural noise and you were talking very fast. To write down and communicate your dietary requests correctly to the kitchen team, I asked you nicely to slow down and repeat certain requests for me. You received the correct meal in accordance to your special requests at the same time with the other guests at the table.
Mission accomplished.
Sorry for having offended you. We never thought our direct tone would make a sensitive person like you uncomfortable. We just did our job as good as we possibly could in our very busy environment.
Have a nice day

Dined here as part of a group of 20, This place has a cool atmosphere with the theme of a German bar. We all ordered around the same time (paying individually) the meals arrived in good time, I went for the seafood chowder, it had good flavour and seasoning, the accompanying bread wasn’t toasted and was pretty chewy which let the chowder down. I then tried three of the ice creams, the banana caramel was disappointing as the banana pieces were a terrible texture and had lost any flavour, the caramel and hokey pokey were good.
Overall a pretty good night out.

Dear Jared
Thank you for your review.
Please allow a few corrections :
1. We never toast any of our fresh breads. The baguette we serve with our Chowder was baked freshly during the afternoon hours for the evening service. And the sweetish yeast flavours of our fresh baguette are enhancing all flavours of our very popular Seafood Chowder.
2. Our Banana Caramel Ice Cream is the Killinchy Gold Ice Cream. It is creamy banana & caramel flavoured ice cream swirled with caramel ripple & biscuit pieces. So what you tasted were biscuit pieces, not the terrible banana pieces you described.
Thank you very much for your visit.
Dietmar, Family and Team.

We visited Dodson Street to celebrate a significant birthday. A great range of brands and types of beer. Food was delicious and having advised in advance of my dietary requirements, Dietmar and his team accommodated them willingly. Decent sized meals which didn't take to long to come out. Bar and table staff were friendly, Dietmar stopped by our table and had a good chat - a really enjoyable night out. Great atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.

A last-minute call to see if our large group could dine on a Saturday night was accommodated with a happy response. Casual dining and a great beer selection was what were looking for and it was perfect. Menu covered food from Germany, Italy and favourites from New Zealand. The food was delicious! The adults lemonade was to die for! 😉 Can highly recommend this venue. Can't wait to visit again in the Summer so we can experience the outside beer garden.

It was a bit of a walk from the town centre but we were delighted we made the effort - a fantastic selection of beers and good quality food. I had a pizza with a tasting tray of 5 beers which is a great way to try the different varieties of ale on offer. My wife ordered the spaghetti which was a huge bowlful that i helped her with :)

Great selection of beer and staff are lovely. However we had pizzas and they weren't very nice. Mine smelt like seafood dispite not being a seafood pizza and both our pizzas had far too much on them, meaning they were hard to eat and the pizza base was soggy and under cooked. Would go again for beer but not for food.

This place is a must visit in Blenheim, always open and an awesome menu to choose from and the craft beers on tap is outstanding! The food we received tonight for our party of 14 was outstanding....the majority of us ordered the Pork Knuckle with mash and omg it was absolutely huge and incredibly tasty with mustard and saukraurt on the side it was to me the perfect dish for a cold night! The beef roulade was amazing as well, the seafood chowder was jam packed with goodness and creamy, fish and chips even looked incredible and the burgers are delicious as well, even the pizza breads as starters were yummy as! Great value for money each and every dish! Staff were accommodating and friendly and the owner is awesome! Try dessert too...even though I was personally full as a bull, dessert looked good! Love the selection of beers! Cant wait to come back, thank you.

Big beer garden, hearty food and great choice of beers and ciders. You can have a tasting tray of beer/cider if you want which is a great idea. Whist there, because it was outdoors, a few folks decided there should be no restriction on the noise level of their conversation. But number of families there was a pointer to a high recommendation.

We had been diverted on our travels and had had a long road trip which saw us driving through the Wairau Valley with two super grumpy, hungry kids and two equally grumpy and hungry parents. In desperation we searched “family eating Blenheim” and on kidsgo, Dobson Street was suggested. What an absolute treat! Amazing craft beer, cider, delicious food and space for the kids to run free in the gorgeous gardens, and give us parents a chance to regroup. Thank you guys!!!

On first arrival in Blenheim, we had been rather unimpressed with the range of restaurant options on offer in the town. So changing our focus to pubs, we were absolutely delighted to discover this wonderful establishment with its amazing array of high quality German beers on tap, a varied NZ & European food menu, a lovely beer garden, and great atmosphere.
When they came, our meals were so good, and so well prepared and presented, that the term “pub food” fails to do justice to them . And such big portions! Definitely the best, most generous and best-value gulasch that I have ever had, anywhere in the world, including Germany and Austria.
We came back the following evening, and would have come three nights running, had the pub not been closed on our third evening in town. Wonderful!

What a gem. When we walked in it appeared a quite place to eat, but once past the front rooms, oh my! Such a lively, bubbly place. The garden was great and large enough for many children to run around. The food was magic and range of craft beer was indeed many. The prices were incredibly reasonable. We will definitely be visiting here again next time we are travelling.

First visit after friends recommended this beer garden with friendly staff & fast kitchen service. Good selection of beers on tap & a couple of ciders. Didn’t go in to eat but ordered a plate of chips. Well what a suprise they arrived large, hot & crunchy with yummy sprinkle & two side dips.
We sat in the garden which had plenty of seats & a covered area. Would be great for all, especially families.
Inside was a typical pub dark & cozy but more seats & leaners. This would be a great stop for travellers heading for Picton as it’s just off the State highway 1. Turn left before the Grovetown bridge. We will return to try the menu & more beers.
