Unfortunately we went visited on a day that the Dosa wasn’t available - surprising that a South Indian restaurant doesn’t always provide dosa. As for the food we did have, lots of plant based options, but also disappointing that there’s no vegan options for a...bread to have with the curry, so had to stick with rice. Otherwise, the food was tasty enough and well priced for the serving size, but the lack of dosa and vegan bread options did make for a disappointing experience.More
Great food and hospitality. Really appreciated the service and being informed about how the South Indian food was different from the usual Indian dishes. We chose the speciality dishes and found them excellent.
A good mix of flavours, very attentive staff, courteous service and comfortable seating. The non vegetarian dishes had flavourful gravies, and our server helpfully advised us on different flavours, so we didn't get fish/chicken/lamb all in similar preparations. The tomato/onion based gravy was our favourite....The biryani was fragrant.More
Our last night in Blenheim, looking for an Indian meal, and fortunately we came early, because this restaurant is busy. And the reason is quite obvious: beautiful South Indian flavours, delicous breads and chutnies, and fantastic service.
We came away full, happy and extremely satisfied....Many thanks Tamarind!More
We booked well in advance for a large group (~25). The restaurant was half full in addition to us and there was a steady stream of takeaways.
Staff were quick to take initial food and drink orders, but that was where the good service ended....Approx a third ordered starters and these were delivered sporadically. About this time we were advised we couldn't have more beers as they were out of clean beer glasses (because they hadn't collected the used ones) and then they served us beer in the dirty glasses we cleared off the table to help them out.
There was about an hour between starters being cleared and the table starting to receive mains. By now we'd been here for two hours and only a third of people had had anything to eat.
You'll note I said start to receive mains. Currys, rice, and naans were not delivered so people received all their food at once. Some were still waiting for their food to arrive when others were finished and ready to pay. Many people did not get their naan at all, and all the currys were best described as mild despite medium, hot, and indian hot currys being ordered as well as mild.
When it came time for paying it was clear that orders had been misentered onto their pos system so some paid less than they should and others more. We were also charged for food that we didn't receive and food we were advised had been comped. Staff advised us it was the complexity of the orders that caused the issues. At no point were we offered a limited menu to make everyone's life easier.
The curry was definitely tasty, but poor service, incorrect food, and overcharging means I wouldn't recommend a visit with a big group or on a busy nightMore
Had a great night with friends, really enjoyed the variety of dishes on offer. We sampled a number and they were all great.
The service was particularly attentive(without being intrusive), informative and very welcoming.
If you are in Blenheim and are looking for good food...and a relaxed evening, head to Tamarind.More
The first thing you notice when entering is the amazing aroma - mouth watering! Wonderful menu choices & great food. The service is exceptional. Would recommend the Dry Calamari (not dry at all) & Beef Mappas - but everything was gorgeous. It was so good...we went there two nights running!More
