Alert level 3 and restaurants are starting to reopen for takeout. Prompted by a desire to support smaller and local business we ordered bang bang chicken burgers from Apache. Easy ordering process from an extensive menu. Straight forward, contactless pickup. And the burgers were delicious. Big portion of chicken, juicy and tasty, generous sized bun, the added salads expertly complimented the chicken. Divine

We made a last minute booking just before arriving and did not regret a single moment. The food and service is wonderful. We can highly recommend the popcorn chicken and the Crying Tiger (Green Papaya Salad). Vietnamese Beer and coffee made for a wonderful dining experience. the waitstaff are superb and make you feel very relaxed and comfortable. Booking recommended as this place is hugely popular.

Coeliac safe!!! The staff and chef couldn’t have been more attentive to our coeliac (gluten free) enquiries and requests. They really made us feel cared for and listened to. Then the food arrives… absolutely delicious, creative flavours, and incredibly fresh. Wonderful place, we will certainly be back!

I’m not usually one to bother writing a bad review but considering we came to Apache based on its high review rating, I feel like it’s rating needs correction. Maybe my expectations were too high. The welcome really did set the whole experience up for failure. The waitress, Georgie I think, who “greeted” us was acting like she was in such a hurry it left my heart racing, it’s like we interrupted her. We were seated and still speaking at a million miles an hour she told us a few things I can’t remember, followed by “and just a reminder, I need the table back at 7.30” as she walked away, in such a tone it felt like she was expecting us to thank her for the generosity of being given a chance to pay them for dinner in the first place. My partner and I were left stunned at how we’d just been spoken to and in hindsight we should’ve left then. Honestly, I’ve never had a waitress like that before. The next server was quite nice but still there was this extremely rushed vibe the whole time. I haven’t felt that in a restaurant in years and I remember the last restaurant with that vibe actually delivered amazing food. The flavours were ok but for the price and the hype I was expecting really a really exciting flavour experience. Unfortunately it didn’t do much for me here. There are Vietnamese restaurants in NZ delivering a much warmer (service again), flavoursome food experience at nearly half the price. Front of house was chaos and in-genuine. The food, unfortunately, wasn’t good enough to prop them up.

Hello Logan, Thank you for your feedback, and I sincerely apologise for the experience you've had with us. We hope you understand that this is definitely not the standard of service we provide, and that we are taking this issue very seriously. If you could please contact us at: eat@apache.kiwi , we would like to speak more in detail about how we can remedy this situation.

We arrived at Apache at our appointed reservation time and were seated. After we ordered drinks, it was a while before a different server came to take our meal orders. When we finished our dinner, we waited for our server return so that we could order dessert. She never returned. When we finally took it upon ourselves to find her, she informed us that we needed to relinquish the table for another party to be seated. In all my years of patronizing restaurants I have never once been informed that I must vacate a table, especially without even having the opportunity to order dessert. This left quite a bad taste in my mouth.

I think it is fair to say that this restaurant has a good reputation based on the 5 star reviews it has. Having said that my wife and I visited the restaurant on a busy Saturday night and were fortunate to secure a booking for 6 pm due to a cancellation. We were informed when we were seated that the table had to be vacated by 7.15. We ordered starters of the pop corn chicken which was definitely worth the price for quantity and flavour. We also ordered the Brisket Bao-bun which was equally flavoursome and did not disappoint. Next course we ordered “Sea meets land “ pork belly and Salmon. This was a disappointment as the 2 main ingredients don’t really marry to deliver much inspiration and the Salmon was under seasoned. We also ordered the Ox Cheeks curry. I cannot fault the way the cheeks were cooked and the quality of the meat. But the whole dish was pretty under seasoned and lacking any real authentic depth of Asian aromatic flavour. After we finished eating at about 7.05 we were offered no desert choices or coffee and felt like we had to leave because we were approaching the 7.15 vacate the table dead line. On the whole the restaurant did not live up to its reviews for us. And we were left slightly underwhelmed and disappointed which is a pity.

Arrived on time and seated by a nice wait person. Downhill from there. Two lots of people that arrived after us received their food before us. We enquired and finally got our starters of Popcorn Chicken and Imperial Fried Pork Rolls, they were cold, we sent them back. They were reheated in a microwave and sent back out to us. We ate some of them but they were disappointing. The mains of Sea Meets Land and Crying Tiger were very underwhelming, nothing special and the type of food that could be made at home with a minimum of fuss. Apache did redeem itself to a certain extent by not charging us for the two starters. Overall, an underwhelming experience and food that was not anywhere near what would be available in Vietnam.

Delicious food, good wine. The menu has snacks, small sharing dishes, and mains. We decided to order two main dishes, and share them both. No problem. Two extra plates arrived promptly. We had Bang Bang chicken $29 (who could resist that name?) and Shaking beef $29 - good-sized lumps of filet fried with red onion and capsicum in a delicious sauce owing a lot to soy sauce. Piping hot. Yum. Small but good wine list. About $15 for 150ml glass. The Chardonnay had been kept in the frig, so took a while for it to warm up and flavours emerge. Bristol Farm. Allow $90 for two drinks included. Booking recommended.

Apache is a Vietnamese/French restaurant in central Wellington and not to be confused with the native American Indian which has the same spelling but a different pronunciation. At lunchtime this place offers a range of salads heavy with Asian influence with papaya, lemongrass, Vietnamese mint and basil, bean sprouts, peanuts and the like, and these can be as hot or as mild as you want. There is a classic beef bourguignon, but generally the focus is on a fusion style with a focus on chicken and seafood. So there are curries as well as more typical Vietnamese dishes (but no pho)The mingling of flavours in typically Vietnamese and the result is delicious. Place is popular and has Vietnamese beer and French wines – as well as plenty of local product. Coffee was disappointing.

but I get to do the review... LOL. Our friend also enjoyed his choice, and I did get to try some of both of theirs. Nice, but not outstanding, IMHO. Maybe I just wasn't particularly hungry. What I chose myself wasn't awe-inspiring, but there's a great difficulty for me at certain restaurants for their insistence on adding chilli to just about everything on the menu. They did bring me a non-chilli dipping sauce but not when my meal was delivered, as requested. Lots of other happy diners, and it's probably advisable to book.

All the food we had was so tasty - flavoursome, plentiful and just delicious. Sharing is definitely your best option - we ordered 4 different dishes and got to sample from each which suited perfectly. Cocktails were great too, with some different options than the usual on offer in the non-alcoholic range.

A friend had recommended this restaurant and due to it being early Jan so many restaurants were closed. This one opened the night before we left. It was incredible - what a taste sensation. Do yourself a favour and try it. I can’t tell you about dessert as we were too full.

A great restaurant in the centre of Wellington. Cosy seating and excellent service. Good wine selection. Food was superb and reminscent of Vietnam. My daughter and I shared popcorn chicken, pork and prawn dumplings and a fruity duck salad with coconut rice. It was all beautifully presented and so delicious. It was a busy night and nothing was a problem. Order was taken and food delivered promptly. Can highly recommend.

My friend and I dined at Apache on a busy Friday evening. Despite the busyness, the service was good. The food was lovely too, although we needed to ask for salt because we found it a little under-seasoned. I'd rate it 4.5 stars - five if we hadn't needed the salt. I'd dine there again.

Google did not disappoint when we searched for 'best restaurants in Wellington'....Was a last minute booking yet they accommodated us, the food was exceptional!! We ordered 3 things off the menu, 2 small plates and a main and every dish delighted!! The Tuna Colada was a standout!! Service was friendly and efficient, the decor a little tired and not in keeping with the standard of the food but was welcoming. Would definitely recommend!!
