Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were struggling to find a single free table in Wellington for dinner on a busy Saturday but Tasting Room gladly accommodated us. The staff were super attentive and helpful from the get-go. We both had the beef filet and it was absolutely delicious, so I highly recommend that.

Went on Boxing Day so perhaps not the best for fresh food. The fish and chips were very greasy and tasted like they had been prepared in old fat. We stripped the batter off to eat the meagre offering of fish. The chips were also sad ! Good beer selection which is probably what they are best at. But wouldn’t return

We ordered both the beer battered fish and the pan fried fish. While the beer battered fish came with chips and salad and was a good meal, the panfried fish was sadly lacking. My partner had a few of my chips to bulk up her meal. Something to be aware of when you’re ordering as you may want to order sides with it. The wait staff are friendly and the drinks were quick to arrive. It is dark inside and seems to be quite noisy, we were there on a busy night though.

This review is for the specific dish, I have no real issues with the venue. The beef Wellington used to be my favourite dish at this place, in fact I would say this would be the only place I would want to eat it in Wellington, I had to come to that conclusion over about five years of repeat visits. The last time I had it I realised that the chef for the recipe had changed. The pastry is different and the taste of the gamey pork based wrap is now the dominant flavour/smell. A one star review Means I would recommend not ordering this dish if you go to this venue But mainly if you have a return customer and haven’t been Since before the 2020 lockdown

I stumbled on this place after a long drive and not knowing what I wanted to eat and it was late for lunch. There were chicken wings on the menu so I opted for them with the honey and mustard sauce topped with Parmesan. I had never tried this combination before. The wings were a good size and were really crunchy. The topping was delicious. Washed down with a cold NZ Sauvignon it fitted the bill just right!

I went as part of a 10-person work group for a lunch. Although not extensive the menu was sufficiently varied for everyone to find something suitable. I had the Beef Wellington, that was delicious although a few more potatoes would have been nice. Likewise the sticky date pudding was very good but a bit more ice cream would have helped. However the service was excellent and our waiter's knowledge of both the food menu and the beer and wine list was very impressive. He as very helpful to those struggling to make a decision. This is one of the few places I would make an effort to go mack to

The welcome was flawless, the beef Wellington however was not. He pastry was raw inside and the beef flavour was lost in the mushroom pate. The potatoes that accompanied it were over cooked and some were even a little burnt. Such a shame as this was supposed to be a special occasion 😥

The tasting room was okay. The beer battered fish was not available and there were only two market fish left. Luckily we got the fish but the rosti was different tasting. The chips were nice but the other mains were average. We won’t be back. It is a great place for a drink and some bar snacks.

We were a few minutes earlier than anticipated but they let us in, with injuries we were very grateful. The service was excellent, friendly and timely and the waiter was happy to check if food had any allergens in so we were able to choose things that we could eat. Food arrived promptly and was hot and delicious.

Dined here on a Sunday evening. Very vibrant Gastro Pub/Restaurant. Service was very welcoming. My husband enjoyed his main (chicken burger). The beef Wellington was tasty and cooked well, but I couldn't find any portobello mushrooms and shaved ham that I thought should have been inside the bun, which stated on the menu. Very disappointed 😞. For $40 I expected to get what it said on the menu. Not sure whether we will return again.

While we have visited the Tasting Room before it has been a number of years. It still has that good feel of a successful restaurant and bar. This time it was pretty busy and like of lot of modern venues it was noisy. Nevertheless, my wife had a lovely NZ rose and I had a really good NZ hazy ale. The pumpkin risotto and my fish and chips were really good - plentiful, tasty and hot.

A group of six of us ate here. It had been recommended by our B&B host. They had a good selection of beers and a great draft cider. You can sit outside. It's by the road, but comfortable. The only problem for us is the smokers. Inside had loads of room at lots of different types of seating. We sat at a high bar dinning table. Good padded seats. Staff were excellent. The only reason this did not get 5 stars is that we all agreed that because our beef Wellington was placed on the top of mash potatoes, the nice pastry ended up soggy and more like suet. We suggest have it at the side and push a side of veg as we forgot to order veg with it. The steak inside was excellent.

OK fried food, decent salad, nice salad. So called Gluten Free squid and cauliflower options were breaded and fried. Manager came, said, "OH you really wanted Celiac Gluten Free!" Only chicken breast was truly GF, cooked in a pan. Beware. Atmosphere was that of a sports bar, more beer choices than wine. Halloumi and Thai Beef tacos were OK. Marked as GF but on flour tortillas.

This is such a fun and lively place! Stopped here for dinner and loved it. Had great range of beers, food and friendly service. I had a salad and added steak strips and crispy beetroot bites which was delicious!

Decided to try eating in a bar we have had many drinks in over the three visits we have made to New Zealand. Do not know why we waited. It was Sunday night so we had the closest thing to a British roast on the menu, lamb shanks, really tasty and well cooked, and huge to boot. Great selection of beers and wine too. A good last night in the North Island.
