Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Enjoyable food & great vibe. Last minute booking was a great success & we really enjoyed our market fish & wine at this popular dockside restaurant. Particularly enjoyed as it’s popular with locals & post work diners not just tourists. Staff were good & we...can highly recommend.More

Very nice food. Everything was really good. We had 3 different main courses and they were all really good. Service was superb. We had a french girl helping us and she was so nice and alert. Great interior made the total experience perfect.

Always one of the top Wellington restaurants and prized for the quality of its fish dishes. The atmosphere is stylish and spacious (important in these days of Covid). The toilets have what must be the best restaurant sound system in Wellington. We had all fish...dishes, with the Groper Panzanella salad dish the most popular, deservedly. The pulverised aubergine was an excellent base to the bread, tomato and mozzarella. The whitebait starter was traditionally served, crumbed and fried on bread and was delicious, with a subtle dressing. The fish risotto was well received, as was the Shed 5 fish and chips (Gurnard).. We had a Sicilian Rosé and a Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc, both well suited to the dishes before us and recommended by the waiter, who allowed a comparison tasting of the SB. Deserts were varied as were the cheese selections (local and European, raw and pasteurised , sheep and cow). No complaints, just compliments. The reputation of this Waterfront Icon is deserved. It’s a while since I last visited the restaurant, have often used their “CrabShack” neighbour. They share a kitchen and staff, so that’s also high quality.More

We all had the market fish. The tuna was perfectly cooked-seared on one side and just lightly pink in the middle. I don’t like eggplant but the smoked eggplant was good. We also had the calamari appetizer—nicely done. For the second appetizer we had the...burata which was creamy and wonderful. Highly recommend. The atmosphere is relaxed and not hurried. Just right for catching up with a friend not seen in 40+ years. Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert.More

Not at all impressed with the snotty hostess. Quite unfriendly and unapologetic when she couldn’t find our reservation. Waiters very good but the food was an overpriced disappointment. $40 risotto with three shrimp and a few small pieces of fish. A decided disappointment.

Great setting, excellent service and outstanding food. My wife and I shared calamari and salmon to start with followed by a seafood risotto and tuna. Everything was outstanding. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great meal in Wellington.

We booked a table well in advance of our trip to NZ, as lovers of seafood, and having read great reviews. Service was just about right, wine topped up as required, food delivery timings great between courses, so we didn't feel rushed. Coromandel oysters, for...starters, along with calamari were delicious and red snapper for both mains, cooked perfectly and well presented. Would certainly visit again when next in Wellington.More

The service was excellent, waitress was on point very sharp and efficient. Food was also outstanding. The fresh blue nose and Moki fish and chips could not have been any better additionally the drink service of topping up our water and wine was immaculate. The...highest compliment came from my 6 year old daughter saying this was her favourite restaurant by far and has stated not said that when we come to Wellington again we need to come here. Thank you for making the people important to me feel special through kai. Ngaa mihiMore

The train to Wellington was very late on my husband's birthday. We were desperate for a meal. All other restaurants turned up away as it was near 9 pm closing time. Shed 5 did not. They gave us an amazing meal and even did a...little birthday panacotta with a candle in it. Made his day. I cannot thank you enough.More

The food was excellent though a little salty for our taste (risotto). Location was terrific and a great venue to watch the world goes past. The service team were friendly though not as attentive as you might expect for a less than busy early dining...session.More

We asked for the set menu shown on the internet and were told the internet menu was out of date. Then we asked for the recommended wines in the drinks menu and were told they didn’t have any left. Overall not the best experience with...our waitress who wasn’t very helpful.More

It's been a while since I went to this iconic restaurant, but we were really impressed with the service and food. We visited Shed 5 for a birthday celebration dinner and were seated next to the windows on a beautiful Wellington evening. The venue is...still cool. The entrees (whitebait, scallops/pork belly, scallops only) were classically brilliant. Great presentation and design. We had a decent gap between meals and the mains were equally fantastic. The vegan dish was creative, great risotto and lamb rump. We ordered 2x sides, which was our mistake, as the main portions were large. We only had the one dessert (Valrhona chocolate dish) and while I was uncertain when the dessert landed, it was the second-best chocolate dessert I've ever had...! Thanks team - great to see this amazing restaurant still hitting great standards! We will be back in 2024!More
