Neo Café is a bustling gem in Wellington's café scene, but it seems to be a victim of its own success. Its compact size and constant stream of customers can deter those who are short on time or hesitant to face a crowd.
The café is exceptionally well-managed and well-run, with friendly staff who keep things moving efficiently. The food and coffee are simply excellent, a testament to their commitment to quality. However, if you're after a takeaway coffee, you might find yourself waiting longer than you'd like, depending on who’s behind the espresso machine at the time.
Overall, Neo Café offers a fantastic experience for those who have the patience to wait or can find a seat amidst the busy rush.

Don't be put off by the queue of people waiting for a table. They have system of turning over the tables the instant they empty, though it can be daunting to be told they have a four-person table for the two of you but you might have to move if a party of four arrives. Mid-breakfast? It didn't happen and the breakfast was worth waiting for. Great coffee with a perfect layer of crema. My wife enjoyed the generous wellness bowl and my pancakes were almost as good as those she makes at home, which means wholesome and delicious. No wonder the Neo is so busy.

Our group of 8 people dropped in on a busy Wednesday morning. They made two tables for us to sit at. They quickly returned to take our order. One table was by the counter and I could observe the calm and quick way everyone was greeted and served for takeaway coffee and seated breakfasts. Very impressed. Our food and coffee was quickly provided and delicious. Chilli scrambled eggs was my choice. Fantastic!

Staff were welcoming and friendly.
I was there fairly early in the morning a there were quite a few customers already in the cafe. It seems to be the policy of the cafe to have everyone seated as near each other as possible, having said that I could have asked for a table with a little more personal space.
Anyway about the food, I opted for a full breakfast and requested that the eggs be over easy. I should have known that the eggs were overcooked by the hard crispy edges, the yolks were pretty much solid. The black pudding were hard like hockey pucks everything else was in a sea of baked beans. Pretty poor effort all round, a full breakfast should be one of the easiest meals to prepare.
The coffee was good, I had a flat white which was almost finished by the time the meal arrived so I requested bottomless filter coffee. Bottomless turned out to be one cup, to be fair I was only charged for one filter coffee.
As I was finishing off the meal one of the waitress asked how things were, my response was that it was” okay, “but she didn’t seem interested into finding out what made the meal okay and that I was definitely not enthusiastic about the experience.
The reviews for this cafe are very good, I was underwhelmed to say the least, I could have made a issue about my experience, however I had the impression that that’s the standard that is usually presented to customers.

Absolutely amazing breakfast at Neo and the atmosphere and staff were so friendly and welcoming. We joined a very short queue when we arrived as it was clearly so popular (despite opening 1 minute before!) but we were seated immediately. The choice on the menu is so varied and the food so fresh with really high quality ingredients. Highly rate the pancakes and keto breakfast!!! They clearly are so popular and it shows - don’t miss this on your visit to Wellington!!

On our third attempt we managed to get a table for breakfast here. It was absolutely worth the wait. This is an incredibly popular little eatery. If you want to go here you will need to get there early. To get in on the third day we tried, we turned up before they even opened only to join a line of 12 other people. That’s how popular this place is. I can assure you though this popularity is not just hype or trend, this place lives up to expectation and then some. Practically everything on the menu is either gluten free or can be made gluten free and the quality of the gluten free food is exceptional. One of us had pancakes (gluten free) and the other had a cheeseburger (standard). The food was absolutely delicious and there was plenty of it. Considering the place virtually filled as soon as the doors opened the staff were efficient and friendly and weren’t at all frazzled by the number of customers. As soon as we were seated water and menus were delivered to our table. We did not have to wait long for a coffee order to be taken. Shortly after we were able to make our food order. Everything came in a really timely fashion without ever feeling rushed. Although the place was really busy it did not feel crowded nor did we feel rushed. We would highly recommend checking this place out if you are in Wellington. Keep up the good work team.

Queued for twenty minutes(not a problem) for some excellent food, service and coffee.
We chose avocado and poached egg on toast and the breakfast bagel. Both plates were excellent and were accompanied by four flat white coffees, compliments to the barista!
Service was well managed, friendly and polite.
The restaurant’s reputation is well deserved.

Why everything tastes so good at Neo I don't know but it does. I had breakfast at Neo on the first morning of a short stay in Wellington and loved it so much I returned for the remaining five mornings. Firstly, very noteworthy is the fact that they serve free range eggs and this is clearly shown on their menu. This is what got me through the door day one as I'll only eat free range eggs and get fed up of having to ask. During my six visits I had eggs on toast - perfectly cooked, avocado on sprouted grain gourdough - a delicious combination of ingredients to which I added a fried egg, and the bacon butty where I substituted bacon for halloumi which made it the most amazing breakfast butty I'd ever had! The food at Neo is just so good; freshly prepared, quality ingredients, well thought out combinations and perfectly cooked. Service is friendly and at busy times they manage expectations on when food will arrive well. I'll definitely be back if I go to Wellington again.

Quite busy, but just a short wait for a table for breakfast. Clearly popular! Lots of lovely choices, so hard to choose. The Biscoff porridge and pancakes looked great, but we opted for eggs Benedict on hash browns and avocado on toast with egg, seeds, hummous and more! Both were stunningly good! And service was quick and very friendly. I’d eat breakfast here every day if I could!

Visiting from out of town. We arrived at 9am on a Saturday to find a small queue but were seated within 5 mins or so. By the time we left around 40 mins later there must have been around 15-20 people queuing inside and outside the cafe.
Service was prompt and changes requested to order managed well. Food was good but nothing that would make me head back quickly next time we in town, would try somewhere else. Coffee was supreme roast and good.
Cabinet offerings looked delicious!

Wow a truly fabulous cafe that was so good we had breakfast there six mornings running whilst in Wellington for the cricket Test match. Being so good it was understandably busy but service was always friendly and efficient. The food was excellent quality with free range eggs and beautifully cooked. The range of breakfast meals, coffee and juice were gorgeous (with chilli scrambled eggs a particular favourite). Superb - 10 0ut of 10.

We’ve been in NZ for 4 weeks, this was the nicest breakfast so far. A busy place, but tables were turned round quickly, and wiped, staff efficient, pleasant, thoughtful and polite. I had a superb nutty granola bowl with yogurt, berries, fruits, husband had a plain scrambled egg on sourdough toast but there are loads of more exciting or spicy menu choices, coffee top ups available freely. Well worth a visit.

Very good quality coffee, brunch and very friendly staff. We ate there for brunch. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. They are also very flexible with mixing and matching the food we prefer. We like the place so much, so next day I went back there again for takeout. It’s a very popular place, so you need to be patient for the seating , but it’s worth waiting

Busy bustling cafe with tasty food and DELSIH shakes. Have dined here a few times over the last 2-3 months and have been happy on all occasions. Only down side is there is its a small cafe so you may be waiting for a table
