I will go back again and again for that mole sauce. The enchiladas are generous but not too much. The flavour is spot-on. This really is a well-established Mexican restaurant that knows what customers want and what Mexicans crave. They have been around for a...very long time - I first visited their stall in the Wellington Markets (now defunct) in the '90's when they served arroz verde (green rice) which was so good, it's still on my mind!More

Amazing service and food. Even through I stuffed up our booking, they found us a table and even gave us a free margarita taster. Food was fresh & quick.

We enjoyed the food, but thought it was a pit pricey. Margaritas were to die for, but the jug was only 500 ml. We were in other Mexican places where the portions were too big to finish, but these ones were a bit small for...what they cost. They soup which we were told would be enough, was also small. On a plus side-we had room for a dessert< There were no churros(should have marked their manu accordingly) but it was the most delicious pana cotta I have ever tasted. The Newtown Viva Mexico is situated in somewhat dodgy part of town, we didn't feel quite safe walking there in the middle of the day with some young unsavoury characters.More

I don’t see how this place could have any bad reviews, honestly. Best Mexican I’ve had in NZ that makes me feel home coming from an ex Southern California resident/Mexican. Anyone that has had real authentic Mexican food should be able to agree. You’re not...going to get any better than this in NZ. GO.More

I have had their food before and it was great. On our last visit way too much salt and it just did not hit the mark. On a good day, these guys are great.

This place never fails to please! Been going here for years and it’s always as tasty with the friendliest service as the first time! I moved overseas and couldn’t wait till I would be back to eat here again! Best house made hot sauce ever...(would love it by the bottle!) me and my friends come here for every birthday and celebration and are treated like returning friends every time! Can’t recommend this place enough, great work guys!More

I had dinner here with 3 others and the opinion among us is unanimous. Truly excellent. The food, drinks and service were all 10/10. The hot sauce was so good that when I enquired about taking some home they sold me the glass skull bottle...it’s served in full. And wrapped it for me. If I lived in Wellington they would know be by my first name.More

The ceviche was nice n fresh with lots of lime juice. While the guacamole was lovely the chips just seemed like you could buy them in a bag. The flautas were something different to try - deep fried chicken tacos they were delicious and the...portion size generous. We got a main of chicken taco dorados as well (again something a bit different for us, crunchy round tacos) and were very full after. Service was friendly. We did have to check on how long the mains would be, the wait was a bit too long for us (15 mins). We were a table of 2 and dined in on a Thursday. Decor really colourful, fun, tables and seats (vs bench seating) tables a little close together, so it's pretty easy to hear neighbouring tables conversations. I'd go again.More

Couldn't fault the service and the sangria. As for the food it tasted as though it had been obliterated in the microwave and was a bland miss mash of flavours. Not sure how it got a 4 star rating for food. Would not go again
