Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very disappointed with what was on the website menu's as opposed to what was actually available. If we had known prior to arriving we would not have dinned there. Entrees and mains very limited for choice, the pate was more of a terrine and looked...liked and had the consistency of a dog roll. Main fish overcooked and dry, the restaurant also lacked atmosphere and felt like a cafe. Sadly will never go back or recommend it. Please take the old pictures of your dishes off your site as very few are actually available.More

We ate at Artisan while staying at the hotel. Wilhilmena looked after us so well, very impressive service. Sadly I was a little disappointed with the Seafood Stew as I felt it needed more Seafood and flavour.More

While the menu at Artisan is not extensive, there was a good range of dishes - and what we had was both enjoyable and nicely presented. The service was very good. Even if you are not a guest at Bolton Hotel (and I recommend that...too), it is a lovely place for a quiet meal.More

I am usually dubious about a lot of hotel restaurants as they can disappoint. This certainly was not the case with Artisan during my stay at The Bolton Hotel and I ate here twice and was very impressed with my meals. I had a beautiful...steak the first night and the venison pie the second, both were delicious. I have had catering training in the past, in fact completed the same course and have the same qualifications as Mary Berry, but am ten years younger! I have cooked professionally and more recently in a volunteer capacity so feel somewhat qualified to give praise where it is due, my congratulations to the chef and team at Artisan, two of the best restaurant meals I have had in many weeks. I did suggest to one of the waiters the music was a bit weird though, perhaps that could be tweaked, some soft jazz might be nice! The Bolton us a great place to stay and you must dine in when staying there.More

We decided to stay in at the hotel because the weather wasn’t fantastic, and I’m glad we did. The service was great and the food was delicious. One of the best eye fillet steaks I’ve had in recent years.

We dined at Artisan as we were staying at the Bolton. The food was so delicious and beautifully presented. I especially enjoyed the vegetarian aubergine main, so so tasty. Another of our party is a Coeliac and he was delighted by the well labeled menu...and the large choice of gluten free dishes in the menu. Thank you to all the staff for the stress free, delicious and well thought out dining experience at Artisan.More

The menu is not updated and some are not available with regards to cocktail. The dining menu has been scaled down due to Covid restrictions. Just disappointed that the risotto, the rice is crunchy but very tasty though like the rest of the dishes we...had including the dessert. I like the set up of the place. Disappointed that no birthday plate was provided even they asked what the reason for dinningMore

This is a classy place with superbly prepared food and great service. Surprisingly good for a hotel, because the restaurant caters for guests of the hotel as well as for discerning diners. I took my partner there recently for a birthday celebration: had a flight...of canapes – four delicious morsels and also some lovely paté. This was followed with an excellent venison pie on mash with wonderfully tender and flavoursome meat, and the chicken ballotine which was breast stuffed with pistachio nuts. A couple of glasses of wine and coffees rounded out the meal. Delightful evening.More

We enjoyed our dinner here - the food was well presented and flavoursome. Impressed too by the waiter seating us with some separation from other parties so that no-one was on top of another table. The bar was buzzing and perhaps could do with some...screening between this and the dining area. Some artworks had been damaged and glued back together which I thought was a bit budget - maybe replace them? And the decor of the restaurant could use a bit of refresh - just a bit tired looking but not in any way unpleasant.More

We were walk in's and were accommodated early thanks to a helpful concierge. The meal completely exceeded expectations and was good value for money. We only had mains due to constrained time but you get an amuse bouche and bread to start. The snapper with...clams was perfectly cooked and the lamb loin with carrots four ways was as good as lamb gets. The carrot puree was divine. Indeed it was so good we could have returned the next day to have it again. Presentation was beautiful and the service was fine. The wine list was really good. We had no time for dessert but the coffee was excellent.More

Stayed in the accompanied hotel for two nights and ate breakfast at the Artisan buffet both mornings. First morning was rough...the buffet had been ravaged by the local professional soccer team just prior to our arrival. Understandable....the restaurant team worked diligently to replenish the offerings....Day two went much better. Excellent and fresh food.More
