From the moment you step through our door, you will feel like you are in Italy. A unique combination of a Restaurant, Cafe and Retail shop, La Bella Italia in Petone, Wellington was born from director Antonio Cacace's passion to educate Kiwis about the beauty of traditional, authentic Italian products and cuisine.
Still the same great standard, service and food - simple but good done well. As usual could not get out of the place without a wee deli shop......
Salmon spagetti was great tasting and perfect size for a late lunch/early dinner.
Staff all excellent!!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. Greatly appreciated.
I understood La Bella Italia has always been a special occasion restaurant. I booked ten days ahead, and reconfirmed the day before, but they were completely unprepared when we arrived. The room looked and sounded like a beer barn. Children were shouting and running. Tables...were jammed in anyhow. Staff were surly when I said I had a reservation.
My friend and I were shown to a table in middle of the room, set for four . I explained I had booked for two. I received an eye roll and “we’ll clear the other settings”. Water arrived at room temperature ( it was a hot evening and cold water would have been welcome).
Looking over the menu was the second disappointment. Prices must have increased wildly since previous reviews; instead of the $15 pasta, $30 mains I was expecting, we saw $28-30 for pasta and $36-46 for mains!! I would happily pay that for a special occasion in a peaceful intimate restaurant. La Bella Italia is NOT such a place.
I mentioned to our server that we had changed our minds; the ambiance wasn’t for us, that we would not be able to have a conversation. She put her hand on the back of my chair, pinning my handbag and blocking my exit. She frowned and said “you shouldn’t have booked on the weekend then“(it was a Friday night). I stared back at her and eventually said “excuse me, we’ve changed our minds.” After a moment she released my chair and we left as quick as we could to find somewhere else.
Luckily we enjoyed a brief walk to a beautiful meal at Kilim, where I paid $64 for mains, drinks and Turkish sweets for two people.More

There is no need of an explanation. It is not worth it. There is only one thing I can say. Thank Goodness you left and won't be coming back again.
Living in Lower Hutt this is our go to spot for italian food. The Pizza and Pasta is always on point and very delicious. Good for just a nice dinner out or for special occasions. Booking required on everyday of the week as its very...popular.More
Once again our takeaway pizza was burnt on the bottom and just warm, not piping hot. We suspect it was reheated as it only took about 8 minutes to be ready. This has happened twice before but this time was inedible. Interesting that making contact...with Bella Italia on the night has not resulted in any response.
Oh well, we are now another family that will “spend local” elsewhere.More

We have eaten at La Bella Italia twice. Each time the food we were served was of a reasonably high standard. I wish my review could end there but unfortunately that would not be being honest about our experience. I gave the restaurant owners (particularly...the owner’s wife) the benefit of the doubt and decided to dine there for a second time after being overcharged the first time we visited. The first time we had things placed on our tab that we did not order and we would have unwittingly paid 15% more had we not thought that our account sounded too high. I thought it strange that the owner's wife did not offer us a receipt to look over when we went to pay. The second time (about three weeks later) things only got worse. The next time we were also not offered a receipt and we were overcharged again. This time they blamed it on their computer system adding up the costs wrong, they could not give us a reasonable explanation as to why they had overcharged us by just under 10%. We left dissatisfied. Added to this we were also charged for a large Euro hot chocolate when my partner was served a medium (he asked for a large, was charged for a large, but was served a medium). We let the hot chocolate slide because it was already an unpleasant experience having to bring up being overcharged. Apart from this there are another couple of things that I would like to mention to people considering dining there. Firstly, while the food is of a pretty reasonable standard, Bella Italia Petone is very expensive when considering what you get for your money. The amount of homemade ravioli that I received in a ‘main’ pasta dish is not much more than a medium sized handful (if that, and including the sauce!) and costs roughly $25. In all honesty, the plate was not worth more than $15 maximum because we had to buy something else given the fact it was the size of a small starter. So, if you want to eat some reasonably good Italian food that is overpriced, a small amount, and that in all likelihood you will get overcharged for when standing at the counter to pay then Bella Italia in Petone is a great place to dine. We will not be returning, but if you decide to go, perhaps ask to receive the bill at you table so you have time to look over it before heading to the counter to pay.More
