Wonderful food and outstanding service, catered for our large family group with ease and humour. Very attentive with lovely extra touches. Everyone in our large group loved their meals, good sized portions (not too big). The setting is tasteful and relaxing, not too noisy either....Woukd highly recommend for a special night out.More

I don't think the majority of these reviewers know what fine dining is, a Bao bun with crispy pork skin belly is not fine dining. Tiny Oysters that have not been shucked properly, is not fine dining. When you are expected to eat your oysters...with a full size knife & fork then that is not fine dining. Wait staff that try to jam dishes onto the table is not fine dining. When the owner plonks your meals on top of the share plate already at the table then that is not fine dining. When nobody (including the owner) asks you how your meal was, then that is not fine dining. Overall it was an average experience with an above average price tag, the meals were ok but definitely not fine dining.More

Having just revisited Somerset Cottage after a few years can see why it STILL is claimed as one of the VERY BEST! So reliable in terms of a VERY SPECIAL evening, warm surroundings, ambience, HIGHLY TRAINED friendly staff, classic menu, and superb wine list. While...it is more expensive than some other places it's QUALITY in every respect you are paying for, doesn't claim to be a "bistro" which is casual and high prices. Presentation of food, beautiful wine glasses, and classy cutlery all add to the experience.More

Wonderful food and service, with attentive staff, a great menu, beautifully present food that tasted amazing! Yes it’s on the pricy side, but spoil yourself with a great night out. Highly recommend the cheese soufflé and the licorice icecream! It was so good we took...a tub away!More

Can’t recommend enough. We went on a Thursday night and it was still quite busy. Service was friendly and professional and the food was outstanding. Will definitely be back soon.

Its so good to be able to return to what has to be Tauranga's most consistently excellent restaurant. The food is always wonderful and for the steak lovers it never fails. However there is much more on offer than just wonderful eye fillet steaks. The...menu isn't pages long. They concentrate on appealing to every diners tastes without overwhelming you with multipole options and underwhelming you with satisfaction. . The team at Somerset have the balance "just right" . They have been here spoiling us for probably over 30 years now and still haven't dropped the ball. Tauranga restaurant's seem to vary so often from good to bad and back again. But not Somerset Cottage. They have the same enthusiastic chef, Rick, and the same warm and welcoming host in Anne and they never take their eye off the ball. Consistently excellent service from the entire team , great food, extensive wine list and loads of free parking around. This why people keep returning.More

This restaurant is an annual favourite when visiting and is consistently very good. The sesame 'crackers' (made in-house) are the best we've ever, ever had to accompany cheese. This property has cooking schools and visiting foodie chefs so is always keeping active. Well worth a...visitMore

It's a locals go to restaurant as their meals are consistently well prepared. Doesn't have a big menu, but the standard remains the same over the years. It's a good place to take visiting friends and family.

You know that all sorts of things get written about decor etc .... but essentially this place is a little bit of magic... Food has always been amazing and I don't think we can fault this place... So happy to be able to visit and...give another review which again is heartfelt and will be back again soon no doubt.... some places come with a flurry and disappear without noise , but Somerset endures and we know why ... excellence and attention to detail.More
