My family of three visited last night. The restaurant had an interesting menu and a list of what was in each burger. We got three burgers and the loaded fries. The guy at the counter was very patient with me as I asked for certain things to be taken out of the burger. The burgers were so good we almost came back for more. We will definitely be going back again. Well done.

Tasty and delicious burgers from Paulys Diner while in Taupo. Ordered a cheese burger with the add on of salad (lettuce, onion, tomato) which costed extra. As a burger enthusiast myself, this burger did not dissapoint! I’d even say that this burger was the third best I’ve had in my life. The special sauce was delicious and the burger was not dry at all. It was so tasty and had everything I wanted in it. We also got the loaded fries and fried chicken which were good as well. Recommend the fried chicken as it was so moist and flavourful unlike your average fried chicked these days. Prices are also reasonable for the portion sizes that you receive.

Ordered the Southern chicken burger, fries and vanilla shake.
The burger was amazing not over seasoned and cooked to perfection, just the right amount of sauce and the sweet bun was the cherry on top.
Fries were perfect ( crinkle cut 🥰)
The shake never disappoints only problem is I never wanted it to end.

Not worth the wait. New owners and just not the same standard. A busy night where we waited 1hour for cold burgers with terrible buns. Staff packing the boxes on the counter with gloves that needed replacement as fingers were out of these. Food not cooked together which we saw old chips pulled out of other containers in the warming draw. Our food sat on the counter a long time while the rest of the order was completed. Sorry team Paulys but you need to up your game. Potato and gravy tasted like curry potato & Chips in the loaded fries box were soggy, we took our burgers back and money was refunded as not prepared to wait. Good on you for acknowledging that.

We ordered the chilli cheese burger and the spicy chicken special burger, along with some fries and the spicy chicken bites. The burgers were delicious, generous sizes, prices weren’t bad, and the food came out very quickly. We could definitely tell this is a genuine spot as we got in just before the lunch rush and they were quickly packed. The staff were very friendly. Will definitely be stopping in again.

We were expecting amazing burgers but unfortunately we only got average burgers. I got the chef special which was a lamb burger but it was barely warm, which was unfortunate. My daughter’s kid burger was hotter and more enjoyable. My husband’s chilli burger was barely chilli-like but was hot in temperature. We asked for just a kids burger without the chips and they charged us the same price as with chips. So we said we’ll have the chips then, if it’s the same price. Staff were not very chirpy, maybe we got them on a bad day?? The buns are nice, and the chips were tasty. We won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

Great food and friendly service. Unfortunately they do not accept credit cards which means I can’t use my company card when here for work. Maybe consider accepting credit cards and charging a surcharge to cover the merchant fees. That way the business travellers don’t have to worry about 37 emails back and forth trying to get reimbursed for a meal. Anyway, keep up the good work team. Food was great.

I walked in to order at around dinner time and even though there were few customers, they were really busy with the online orders. Had to wait for 30 mins which they told me beforehand and I was glad I waited cause the burger was literally the best I've ever eaten! The chilli cheeseburger was to die for, the beef patty was juicy and the bun was slightly fried if I'm not wrong. Was a little chilly that night so the burger really hit the spot.

the short version of the review, I hate macdonalds and I'd go there before I come here again, if I could give 0 stars I would. for those who want more detail read ahead.
So we were told 30 minute wait on order. 45 minutes waiting ensued.
They then hadn't made the shakes we ordered. 15 more minutes for 2 shakes. Then they asked if I wanted them to keep the food warm, I thought that should be a given since it was ordered as takeaway
Then got the food to the truck and my partners order was wrong.
the order corrected by unfortunately they put saucy food in a folded bowl so it leaked all over my partners shirt and pants.
Then the chicken was full of fat, the sauce was bland, and her chicken was luke warm. My burger was right but while I could see the chilli relish I couldn't taste a skerrick of chilli The burger itself was average at best.
The milk shake my partner got was banana, not lime. At least my chocolate shake was right and i will admit it was pretty tasty but that's the positive of the meal right there.
1 out of 4 things were done correctly.
needles to say, as above I would give 0 stars if I could.

Paulys WAS amazing. It changed hands, and unfortunately the new owners don't put any love into their food - and it shows in the below average, over cooked burgers. I miss the great food and awesome service. RIP Paulys.

My partner and I decided to have dinner at Paulys and we weren’t disappointed! It was a very busy, humming spot for a Sunday night, & the boys working the kitchen handled the crowds amazingly well. They were very honest about the wait time and our chicken, chips and slaw were worth the wait. Would love to come back and try the burgers next time, they looked gourmet. Would suggest you arrive earlier than later, as they do run out of some products (and rightly so too)! Highly recommended!

Absolutely terrible. Lukewarm fried chicken that was as bad as kfc on a bad day (except 4 x as expensive), barely warm limp chips and literally stone cold gravy. Got misled by a few good reviews of what I now see are the previous owners. After reading more recent reviews I am actually now worried about getting sick from the chicken. I'm reluctant to dump on hospitality-type businesses during such a tough time, but this was just so bad I thought it warranted a psa.

everything I’ve tried is delicious. Especially love the chilli cheese burger, loaded fried and the buttermilk chicken with blue cheese sauce is amazing!

Great reviews for this little diner. Blackboard menu looked great too. Looked like they would do the few options really well. Unfortunately not the ones we chose. A single beef cheese burger and a single chicken burger and loaded fries $43. The beef pattie was dry, charred and overcooked, not a lot else in the burger except cheese and some sauce. Chicken burger was almost cold (we’d only travelled a few minutes), the burger was full but very very very salty. The first couple of bites were ok but then the salt kicked in and it was just …..yeah….nah. And the loaded fries were basically just mush. Pretty disappointing actually. Our local gas station does better burgers by about 1000%.

As a Taupo local i have waited a long time to try Paulys and yesterday i took the plunge, i was hoping for a Fergburger type of experience. To say i am disappointed is an understatement . Paid $23 for a double cheeseburger , it looked great , first bite seemed ok but it gradually got overpowered by salt which i think was in the sauce. I won't be returning.
