Our evening at the Brantry was as delicious and welcoming as we had remembered from our last dinner there. The menu is beautifully balanced and each course was utterly delicious. The service was warm and accommodating, the ambiance is fantastic and the wine list is varied and reasonable. But, and there is a but… the menu states that three courses are $85, and there are no prices with any items, apart from the two side dishes. We took that to mean that the $85 three course menu was the only option for dining at the Brantry. However, when we asked , at the end of our meal, what would happen if people didn’t want to have three courses, we were told that you could have whatever you liked, and that the entrees and desserts were $20 each and the main courses $40. We were both dismayed and actually, somewhat annoyed, that this had not been made clear on the menu. We would not have chosen to have three courses each if we had known that was possible. We feel this is a bit naughty and misleading and tainted what was otherwise a very delicious meal.

A must 'go to' location for all foodies! Simply suberb food, excellent service and worth the cost. The Brantry has a 3 course seasonal menu which changes as the seasons change. The food we were served was fantastic (thank you chef/s) and the service right up there with the best. The beverages were very fair for such a tourist location, and the restaurant itself a real eye opener. If you like fine dining, this is the place to go in Taupo.

If you are in Taupo this restaurant is a must do. It was a 'fixed' menu, three courses for NZ$95 p/p wine extra. There were four choices for each course, with plenty of variety. Food was excellent, service very attentive, and the restaurant has an indoor/ sort of outdoor area. Really great.

It was a cold rainy Monday night, but the Brantry was warm and welcoming. There were only a few others dining, but the atmosphere was cosy, the table settings were resplendent, and our server was a charming lady who clearly took pride in doing her job well and ensuring her guests had a pleasant experience. We were pleased to be given complementary breads, and my wife and I then had the Coconut Curried Prawns, Pork Belly, Fish of the day, Savannah Beef Eye Fillet and the Chocolate Dome. All of the dishes were nice, but they weren't banging with flavor. Neither of us had one of those 'OMG that's incredible' moments. Something was missing from otherwise lovely food. I'm no Masterchef, so please feel free to disregard or even disagree, but there seemed to be an absence of acidity in the dishes to balance out the sweet and rich pork and beef, and even the prawns and fish could of done with some zing. That is my only critique of what really is a lovely restaurant, which we will be happy to go to again.

Fantastic service! We were a party of 9 with 2 people having very specific dietary needs. Even on Christmas Eve when they were busy the chef came to the table before we ordered to ensure everyone got exactly what they needed. Wait staff were also amazing and food excellent

We were recommended to go here by the owner of the Honeyhive. The Brantry is just outside the main part of Taupo in a house repurposed to be part gallery part restaurant. It is a 3 course set cost menu with local wines offered. Service was great without being over the top and the food was brilliant. My wife has a creme brulee wherever we go and she regards this as one of her best !

Amazing meal on every front. The three course service was fantastic - we rate this meal in our top ten ever…and we’re kinda old and we’ve enjoyed many meals out. The flavours were complex yet complementary and everything was perfectly cooked. My salad, a take on Caprese, was amazing with a ‘Bloody Mary’ sorbet I would happily eat every day. Presentation was very good. Service was a perfect marriage of friendly and attentive without being too much. The ambiance is not one of a really high end restaurant but just fine regardless…and it was in Taupo, where we were not expecting a superb meal. Value, compared to what we expect in Canada, was excellent…between exchange rate and no taxes nor tip, this was a man amazing bargain.

3 course meal with generous sizes. I just wished the focaccia was warmed. The offerings were diverse and a play on Asian, Indian and local flavors and they were willing to cater to different allergies. One NA beer. Friendly service and would come back again. One star deduction because for the price wasn’t blown away by the flavors. About 98NZD per person.

It was a pleasure to find The Brantry still operating to such a high standard in these uncertain times. It was really busy, always a good sign, and we had a lovely meal with the wow factor in every mouthful. Service was friendly and professional, and the only difficulty we experienced was in making our selections. The dishes were all interesting, and while the menu is not extensive it covered all the bases. Long may it last, so I can return and have this great dining experience again and again.

As soon as we realised that The Brantry was offering a lunch service we booked a Sunday Lunch group. We were not disappointed. This older, stylish & comfortable venue offers excellent food, service & ambience. We could communicate with each-other without difficulty; no echoing floors or obtrusive music with which to compete! The menu exemplifies a contemporary Farm to Plate, fresh seasonal produce ethos. We thought the Set 2 or 3 course Set Menus offered excellent fare at a reasonable cost. Paul’s eyes lit up when he saw the words Argentinian & Malbec aligned on the small wine list of notable palate-pleasers.. The more arty of us enjoyed ascending to Zea You Gallery to appreciate the wide range of quality NZ art works, paintings, prints, sculpture, jewelry, glass, ceramics and more! We will be back!

We had heard this restaurant was very good and it certainly lived up to its reputation. We think it may be one of the top restaurants in town. Nice presentation for the dining area and the tables are well spaced out, and it had a light and airy feel. The food was really beautiful to look at and tasted just as good as it looked. We all had a 3 course meal and complementary bread to start. The portion size was correct for a 3 course dinner so that you didn’t leave the table feeling over full. My starter was Pork Belly with Fennel, my main was Steak and we also shared a side of very tasty Duck Fat roasted potatoes. My dessert was Crème Brûlée. Definitely one to visit again. Excellent service throughout the meal. The price paid fairly represented the standard of the meal and we will definitely eat there again in the future.

Recommended by a fellow traveler as a must, I’d now recommend the same. Out of the town centre but easily accessible, The Brantry was a delight. Service was attentive and friendly. The young service staff had clearly been trained by a professional and took pride in their service. The food, a 2 or 3 course fixed price menu was simply delicious. Beautifully served, great flavour combinations and just the right size to leave you happily anticipating the next dish. I hadn’t planned to have desert but the special of the day, roast nectarines with a ginger crumble and crème anglaise piqued my interest - it was a flavour sensation.

We have been working in the area for a few weeks and have tried various restaurants during our time here. Unfortunately this was probably our worst experience food wise. I will say the service was excellent and staff very attentive but stringy vegetables, average potatoes and lukewarm tough duck served on cold lentils was very underwhelming.

We had a family dinner here to celebrate an anniversary. We had quite a large party and we were accommodated in the front covered area which was beautifully decorated, together with fairy lights overlooking the front garden. While the others enjoyed their meal, I was a little disappointed in my meal, primarily due to the use of coriander in many of the dishes I chose. I tried the new 'Apricot' dessert on the recommendation of the wait staff; I found the cake portion of this quite bland with no flavour. I did however try the chocolate dessert that the others chose, which was absolutely delicious and I will opt for this when we come back next :)

We had a set menu in which two courses allowed a choice between two dishes. My main was a beef fillet which I ordered medium and maybe it's open to interpretation, but I'm used to seeing some degree of pinkness in the centre of a medium steak. Sadly we were not asked how our meals were and no one queried why my plate was taken away with the steak largely uneaten. A birthday was given as the reason for our booking for this special occasion but sadly no reference was made to the birthday haver on the night. For just under $500 for dinner maybe I was expecting too much to have had the kitchen put a candle on dessert. It's a nice enough venue with car parking on site. No views but the outdoor patio area was enjoyable. I'd like to have known at the time that there was the option to view art upstairs while waiting for our orders.
