We stopped over in Lake Taupo for lunch and the McDonald's here stood out with its very own Douglas DC-3 plane kitted out as a dining venue option.
Accessible via the inside of the restaurant, one can visit without purchasing any food. There are placards detailing the history of the plane inside and the cockpit is sealed off for safety and preservation purposes.
The location of McDonald's here is good as it is located towards lake's edge for further exploration.

It's a Maccas with a plane, thats just cool. There was heaps of info about the plane and you could view the whole cockpit. We went for a pretty early dinner 5 ish, after driving all day, the food was acceptable, its cheap takeout after all. As it was so cold we were the only people on the plane eating, so that was pretty cool.

We weren't planning on coming here, but ended up here for a lunch as we were nearby. The kids loved the playground and the plane. The food is just like any other McDonalds but was a little slower for the service. The cleaners also left all their cleaning materials on the table, which wasn't very safe for the young ones..

Hotcakes are absolutely amazing!! Especially the ones they serve here. I received a free soft serve as I went on the train funded by Ronald McDonald Charity House, so I put the ice cream on the hotcakes! Perfect! The plane is so iconic, and makes this McDonald's probably the best one in New Zealand.

If you want to spend a long time in a fast food you can come in this one.
We waited 25 minutes for our order and that was cold.
The staff in this McDonald’s is unfriendly, and so dirty, taking the money with the kitchen gloves… it’s very bad.
And then, the dinner room was so dirty. I took many pictures of this disaster.

We were staying in Taupo and kids wanted McDonalds - little did we know it was the coolest McDonalds we've ever seen (and we've seen many!) There is an old airliner mounted outside where you can eat - the kids loved it. It was a little warm in the afternoon so aim for the morning during the summer. The staff were nice and efficient. Plenty of parking in the city generally. Nice walk to the lake.

I had been to McDonald’s in bills before and it was awful . So on my way back north, found Taihape was closed(7.30pm ffs) so ravenously hungry went way out my way to go to Taupo mc do’s. Was not able to enter the mc d’s and had to use the drive through only to find my rental truck was too high and thy would not accept walk through orders.
Bottom line is, if you are desperate for even really poor food, do not rely on a mc d’s

We don't normally frequent McDonald's but had to come here to dine in the aircraft.
We actually visited Dec 2019...service and food as normal here but we could not eat in the plane as children use it as a playground too and were screaming and jumping over the tables, a nightmare up there. We ended up eating in the restaurant...overall not a good experience. It's a shame as it is cool but staff should have more control.

Slow service in drive through. They had already parked two cars ahead of us as their orders obviously werent ready. They told me my order was 3minutes away and asked me to park on the footpath which isnt even a designated McDonalds park. I told them I wouldnt as I deemed it unsafe and probably illegal. They then complained to manager but meanwhile one of their waiting parks had freed up so they asked me to park there. 10minutes later someone finally bought our two big mac combos out to us. Pathetic slow service. They need to cook to order before queing heaps of people up.

I think you would be hard pressed to find a dirtier mcDonalds we went for lunch so the kids could play in the plane, but it smelled like a few/ a lot of children did not make it to the toilet in time . Tables were filthy and the floor sticky.

Poor customer service. Waiting 10 minutes after placing my order before discovering that the items I had ordered and paid for were actually out of stock. Very disgruntal staff and a lack of any sort of apology. I had to ask for a refund which seemd to be a lot of trouble for them to understand.

We spent our New Year in Taupo and decided to drop by at the World's Coolest McDonald's. It's one-of-a-kind fast food experience but I didn't feel like eating inside the plane. Not a good place (plane) for claustrophobic people.

Had heard about this McDonald's many times before, so decided to pay it a visit when I was driving through the town. Decided to order a classic Big Mac meal and thankfully it was rather delightful. Unfortunately, the plane doesn't fly, and this put a slight dampener on my evening.

Everything is good. The plane sitting behind as part of the seating area is cool. Playground for children is good. Other than the floor of the men toilet was a bit oily and slippery everything was good.

Went inside to try order but the register wouldn’t let me make it lettuce wrapped but so complicated for a little request. Got told to go into drive thru to order it. The lady was so rude and told me it definitely wasn’t an option (which it is) and I told her I had been told it inside and she said “no you didn’t”. Get it together Taupo Mcdonalds worst service ever, get happier staff
