Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful meal with a different twist. Both if us thoroughly enjoyed our flambè dinner experience. We most definitely will be back.

Not the same outstanding restaurant, service still good but food well below average. Rib eye steak large slab of tasteless meat in spite of garlic and mushroom sauce. A single strand of Brocolini with potato, lacking variety and quantity of vegetables. Previous visits to this...place had colourful and varied vegetables in a shared dish in the table. Prosecco not available, substituted with sour cuvée wine we could not drink.More

It was so good we went back again a couple of weeks later - you won't be disappointed with the flambe steak!

We were hankering for a nice piece of salmon and remembered they had salmon on the menu that was delicious, so we were a little sad to see it was no longer available. Front of house was a wee bit abrupt in her manner, stating...we couldn't get in til 1830hr due to predicted full house, despite there been no one in the restaurant. And not many did turn up. We figured out why later. No matter. We had a wonderful gin and tonic, made by George in the bar and sat by the pool. Very nice. At the allotted time, we went back to the still empty restaurant and sat down. I got the fish and chips and my husband got the vitality bowl. Both were pretty average and lacked any taste. We left the plates unfinished and wondered where the chef was, because they couldn't have been working that night. Harsh criticism but a guest shouldn't feel like they could cook it better than a qualified chef. The only redeeming part of the dish was the sauce on the fresh vegetables. The overall shining light was our waiter and drinks man, George. A young man, that was extremely helpful, professional and courteous beyond his years. If he hadn't been there, the rating would have been a one star. Give that man a raise, he is worth his weight in gold.More

My 2 siblings and our partners went to the orangey for dinner. 6 of us. We have been before and knew the food was nice. The service and atmosphere was top notch. 3 of us ordered steak Diane which was absolutely delicious. One ordered the...chicken breast and one ordered the pork belly. All our meals were very tasty. The downfall was the amount of veges we were provided and the person who has the pork belly, had a miniscule amount of mashed potato on his plate. For 6 adults we were supplied with one small dish of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. Our person with the pork belly asked for some more mashed potato and was told that sorry the chef said no there wasn't enough left!!!! The rest of us gave him some from our plates as we def had way more than he did!!! Very disappointing for a fairly expensive restaurant. Probably wud be hesitant to recommend the orangey to anyone now.More

A god place to go if you’re looking for something a bit different. Food cooked in front of you, which by the way was delicious, was quite the experience. For a destination like this though I really think the table side chefs need a bit...more charisma to pull off the experience this venue offers.More

Have been here before and stand by my claim this is New Plymouth’s best restaurant. There are many trendier and offering a different vibe but you can’t fault the service or the food here. A wonderful experience and food and despite not booking they fitted...us in.More

Our starters (bruschetta and fish stew) were excellent. We then had a very long wait before our mains arrived. The fish & chips was OK but the cannelloni salmon looked and tasted awful. Greasy sauce with buttery potatoes on top of the pasta. The whole...dish seemed to have been re-heated in a microwave. The staff handled our complaint well and removed the dish from our bill.More

We order cocktails that took a while to come, not a problem as we had all evening. We were asked 4 times if we wanted to order. We said we would like to enjoy our cocktails first then order. Starters- cured salmon very good. Mains,...I had the short ribs, I have never seen so much fat. Also the fat next to the meat was solid, the meat was tender but not hot enough. The rest of the dish was fine. Great that potatoes and veg are included in the price. Veg nothing special, but ok. Filet was very good, I wish I had ordered that. However it came with a red onion tart that was cold, I am sure it should have been hot. Wine a reasonable price. One review said their eyes watered at the price of the dinner. We thought it was reasonable value for money. Crepes at the table were great. It’s a corporate setting located in a hotel. When we mentioned the substandard ribs and tart, we were instantly offered a glass of wine each. Great customer service.More

We chose the Orangery for dinner as it was rated highly on trip advisor #1 in New Plymouth and because I can only eat gluten free due to being coeliac. Majority of the menu could be made gluten free but the best was the crepe...Suzette flambé could also be gluten free!!! I always choose my dessert first 😉 Our meals were amazing! Serve was great! I will be back again for GF crepes!!! Thank you for a fantastic evening out!!! 🌻More

A first rate experience from start to finish. Booked for New Year’s Eve and a very busy night for the team. The service was exceptional from all of the team. The menu had plenty of options with the food being of the very highest standard...for presentation, quality ingredients and flavour. For desert I had gluten free flambé crepes, which is the finest desert I have had in years. Would highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back for sure.More
