About
Volcanoview Restaurant established 26 January 2011. Friendly priced family restaurant with table service. No need to order at the bar, we come to you. Our food is healthy. Most of the dishes are gluten free, we grow our own lettuce, vegetables, capsicums, bake our own cakes, buns, bread, make our own beef/fish/veggie burger patties and all our sauces. So we know that what we serve is good healthy food. Further we cater for weddings, parties, work do's, functions, funerals, you name it. Average cost for a dinner buffet is $ 37,50 per head. Everyone can use the free pedal carts.Three flying foxes are all located on a private property. If you stick to the rules, nothing is likely to happen. Apart from the restaurant we offer camp ground, cabin and B&B facilities. All reasonable priced and the awesome views of Mt Taranaki are totally free of charge. Hope to see you soon.

Spectacular views, fabulous coffee, great service. Well worth the 5-7k drive out of New Plymouth. This cafe style restaurant is in an idyllic setting, surrounded by native bush and glorious views. You can also incorporate a bush walk. Seating is open plan with large and small wooden tables, plus seating around a wood burner, very cosy and comfortable indeed. Celebrating art with various pieces of magnificent landscapes as well as a plethoras of other art pieces in this establishment. Coffee was smooth, strong and hot just the way I like it. Good strong menu to suit most palates. Families are welcomed here. So let’s continue to support local, with our support our hidden Gems will continue to flourish.

This place was just a treat, so happy we stopped on the way back from Taranaki. Google said it was closed at 3 pm but I arrived at 3:30 and they were open, and kids were so happy, flying fox, cows, some toys inside and outside, and for our luck she bring a couple chooks, only 2 days old and also had a german shepherd puppy before we left... ohh and the food?? Awesome too, chips were crispy, and we tried some dutch food that I can’t remember the name but highly recommend then, and the kids pancake with ice cream, they just loved it...

Six weeks into our 5-month stay in New Zealand, our first visit to this beautiful country and tiring of seeing burgers and chips with everything on too many restaurant menus; my husband, brother-in-law and I had such a delicious lunch on our first visit to this café and restaurant that we decided to book for dinner the following day. Both the lunch and dinner menus were very inviting. Every course for dinner was much enjoyed and we especially appreciated the friendly Brazilian who gave us the table with the best view of Mt. Taranaki. We not only give Volcano View 11 out of 10 for a great menu, food freshly cooked and beautifully presented but the relaxed atmosphere with music from the eighties playing at just the right volume.

Place is perfectly located to enable a quick start the next morning, to beat the traffic at Egmont visitors centre. If you are camping with a tent, and it's not a free standing tent, I suggest you situate yourself in the 'non car' camp site areas. The car tent site areas are impossible to get your tent pegs into. I think this area is more for campers/motorhomes.

This campsite ticked all the boxes for a campsite, but there are a couple of things we would have liked to have known before we went. The first is that the owners had a stack of the "Real News" newspaper (surrounded by candles in their foyer) which is full of COVID-19 conspiracy theories and anti-vaxination propaganda. I don't care about the personal beliefs of anyone who owns a business here in NZ, but anyone who is actively trying to perpetuate dangerous misinformation to their customers in the middle of a pandemic is not someone I want to give my money to. The second is that the ground is full of rocks and it's nearly impossible to pitch a tent there, even if you have a hammer. Not such a big deal but good to know before you go. The third is that they are really unwilling to give drinking water. Water restrictions are understandable, it's the same anywhere rural in NZ. But it was badly communicated with a sign on the outdoor sink saying "don't drink this water get it from the restaurant", then when you go and ask for drinking water from the restaurant they aren't keen to give it to you. After reading some other reviews on here it seems this drinking water issue comes up a lot, and it's worth noting that in NZ in order to legally serve alcohol (which they do) you have to offer water to your customers, so if you're asked to pay for it it's a breach of the liquor license in this venue. It also seems like the go to response from the owners when they get a bad review is to ask customers if they have "taken their pills lately" or calling them "funny people". Interested to see what the response is when these people are actively spreading dangerous misinformation to anyone who will pick it up. Weird vibe, wouldn't recommend unless you want to be funding a bunch of rude people who clearly don't give a crap whether they are meeting the basic needs of their customers. Read the responses on the bad reviews on this page before you go.

This place was rural and had a view of the mountain with parking. We liked this place online, as it was only a short 15 min drive away to get to the Egmont/Taranaki visitor centre, to then climb up Mt Egmont to the summit at the top and back down again. Owner's were very friendly and helpful on our accommodation. Unfortunately we didnt get to try out the restaurant this time ,but it certainly looked good. For campers there was 2 toilets to use and a quick warm shower to save on water. We had a tent with all our own bedding. Plus also got the Barrel home which was very cute and cosy, it was like a mini home with a table and seats , window and door. Then was able to be folded down into a double bed at night. Would definitely go back again to this place for accommodation and to try out the restaurant as well.

We loved dining at Volcano view, the food was amazing. My partner had the tuna tartare and I had the French onion soup as an entree. The food was delicious, service was great and we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We will be back.

We were recommended to visit after recently moving to NP. What a fabulous place. The food was delicious with generous portions. Our children (and adults!) throughly enjoyed the pedal cars and flying fox. Super handy to visit after walking on Mt Taranaki so we'll be back.

A must to stop at on the way to or from the North Egmont visitor center or just a short drive from New Plymouth. It was raining on our visit so didnt get to see the spectacular view of the mountain but it was a cosy and welcoming spot on a winters day. The hospitality was faultless and the food delicious. Highly recommend the Dutch pancakes. Reasonably priced too. Well worth a visit.

Great view, great atmosphere in the restaurant, simply a great place to go to. But not to forget also impressive is the quality of the food: everything is homemade ❤️

Had a random stop in here just to get a bite on a long roadtrip. Very mid-tier food, not bad but nothing spectacular. But then being handed some "real news" pamphlet full of anti-vax, anti-max, anti-everything rubbish? Why are you trying to politicise your food. Not only that, but think everything is a conspiracy? Outrageous.
