Most boomer Kiwis' experiences of Chinese restaurant food would most probably have been the relatively delicate Cantonese style of cooking. Spice doesn't feature much unless you like five spice dishes. Enter the cuisine of the more northern region of Sichuan, and be prepared for a...different variety of ingredients and flavours that will challenge your taste buds and stomach. The average Kiwi probably isn't into offal apart from liver and kidneys, but this menu will open your eyes as to what constitutes a meat dish. There are many dishes that feature spice, for example there's Wonton with spicy sauce, and Sichuan style dumplings. My favourite on this visit though was the Chongqing dan dan noodles. The star in this dish is Sichuan pepper, which imparts a unique tingling sensation on the taste buds. Steamed buns are common in Cantonese cuisine, so we ordered a Steamed big bun for a comparison. The filling, which was minced pork and soy bean paste, was a nice contrast to the spicy dishes. The decor was plain and clean, and staff friendly and helpful. While we were there it was all Asians who were eating, so you can take it the chef is the real deal.More

Haven’t eaten this type of Chinese cuisine in NZ before, this was a real treat. The dumplings were delicious and silky and the sauce served with them beautifully balanced. Followed by fried rice and a spicy chicken and peanut dish which again was well balanced.... Our only regret was that there were only two of us so we couldn’t try more dishes. Service warm and friendly , premises spotlessly clean and great food, would recommend to anyone who likes this style of food. It will be a must do on our next visit .More

What I would describe as an authentic Chinese restaurant serving honest, well prepared, well presented food in unassuming surroundings. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Usually we order takeaway dumplings but thought we'd eat in for lunch. The food was tasty, the premises was extremely clean(including the windows and front door!) and the staff were super friendly and helpful!! Will definitely be back again.

Table of eight went for lunch. Including three of my Chinese friends, one from Chengdu. So he knows his Sichuan food. All the dishes tasted great and fresh. It was a good mix of flavour for us. Some spicy and some salty and some mild....A high quality meal in a restaurant that feels very genuine. RecommendedMore

Whenever I travel through Rotorua, this is a must visit location. Love the authentic Sichuan dishes that mostly based on málà; literally " numbing and spicy" taste. Most dish are generous in portion so do recommended to go as couple or group.

Great food and I mean great. Loved the atmosphere - like old friends and family all dining together. This restaurant is the whole package when it comes to Sichuan style food. Love it

We ate there, they got my order wrong and when my dish finally arrived it was not what I ordered. You don't get many veggies with a sweet and sour pork, no pineapple. We noticed that the Chinese people who came got better service and...better presented food than a lot of others eating there.More
