Food was good, good portion size. Staff were nice and friendly. Nice setting. Nice and close to accommodation, an easy walk.

The service was terrible. We had to prompt to order and then waited for over 45 minutes for our first course to arrive. This was after asking twice if there was a problem. There seemed to be no obvious manager in charge and the serving...staff were very disorganised. Other people were also waiting a long time and others being turned away. When the main course eventually came I had to send my lamb back, it was not just pink it was not cooked at all. The waitress then tried to tell me this was how it came but I had to more than once tell her it was raw and I couldn’t eat it. She reluctantly took it back to the kitchen, I have never sent food back before. After my husband had finished his meal and after another prompting my meal came back. It was cooked then but I had rather lost my appetite by then. Other tables were also returning food not cooked properly and complaining. It was a very disappointing time and we left, having spent nearly 2 hours there. Our drinks were not charged to the bill. I wish we had left earlier, would never return.More

Great family friendly establishment. Great service from the manager Kelly. The staff were super friendly and knew the menu in depth when asked questions. Highly recommend the burgers and fish and chips.

Late lunch. Menu looked interesting, so we stopped here. Only 2 staff visible at the time. Waiter dropped 3 dirty paper menus on table then left. Eventually came back and took order. We had a chance to look around while waiting, and waiting. Filthy floors....Chairs, railings, lots of tears in the canvas seats on many chairs. The place wasn’t busy. Eventually the food came. Had to get server to get us silverware. Wrong beer delivered. Vegetarian beet falafel was awful, stale bread, beet falafel part was tasteless, and no idea what it was actually made of, fries were not bad. Double burger had pretty charred beef, greasy, and a horrible stale ordinary hamburger bun. Fries were ok. We hadn’t see the server or any staff for maybe 30 minutes, I decided to hunt down our guy and get the bill. If he had ever checked to see what we thought of the food, we would have sent it back, but he was MIA. Truly, we should have just left the food on the table, paid for the beer, and just left. Idiots. So, we paid $60 for the worst meal in New Zealand. So, if you are interested in horrible food, and non existent service, try this dive out. Dirty, horrible food and service all just waiting for hungry people who didn’t have the balls to walk out and leave the crap on the table. Lots of other choices close by who will work hard to earn your moneyMore

The $29.99 2 course meal caught our eye, but after 5pm. However we went around 3pm and they were happy to take our orders as the kitchen closes then. We ordered 2 chicken schnitzel with salad and chips and summer ceviche and it was lovely....Staff very friendly and welcomingMore

The Lamb Kofta was AMAZING! Full of flavor and spices without actually being too spicy. Service was friendly and efficient.

Decided on Ambrosia because there weren't many diners and we'd at least be served quickly. We joked that maybe we should take heed of the numbers, but weren't really worried. We should have been. First, the guy spruiking out front warned us that the menu...they had on display wasn't correct (an issue with the printers, he said) and handed me a table menu instead. We were happy with the menu and took a table. Only then did the spruiker come over and clarify that they couldn't make many of the dishes on the table menu either -- something to do with Christmas and deliveries, he said. I was a bit disgruntled by this, but we pressed on and ordered from the very limited menu that Ambrosia could fulfill. The house-made bread selection we ordered was burnt, though the burnt bread was craftily hidden under the unburnt slices. We also weren't supplied with a knife to spread the garlic butter -- no cutlery on the table at all So we resorted to smooshing the toast into the butter instead. After an interminable wait, the kids got their dishes. But by the time we got ours they'd finished. This was remarkably poor service given that our meals were salads ( no cooking req!) and the restaurant was three quarters empty at the time. The cherry on this particular cake was that the dishes we waited so long for were both really poor. Two thumbs down.More

The restaurant was not full, we ordered a steak and a lasagne. Both needed more then one hour, which was too long. Additionalsoft drinks were also quite slow. Otherwise the food was good, the steak medium.

Probably what you would expect when you're getting 3 courses or $29.99, maybe a bit better. Service was average, took along time for orders to be taken, drinks served etc and was often difficult to get service. One drink order was taken and never delivered....The entrees were good but the mains were a bit average. Med rare steaks were almost blue and rest was just OK. The ambrosia desert was nice, but a bit samesie after a few mouthfuls.More

Four of us dined here after me having been accosted by George, staff member, the day before while I was taking a squiz at the menu. We had a bit of banter, he was doing a great job soft-selling the restaurant, which we 'bought', so...here we are. The three course special is offered between 5-7pm, and we rocked up at ten to 7, so just in time to order. You have a choice of 3 starters, 4 mains, and Ambrosia for dessert. We all opted for the truffled arancini with goats cheese for the entree - it was delicious. For mains the choice was chicken parmigiana, beef sirloin (surf & turf), Canterbury lamb, or today's housemade pasta. Three of us had the lamb (2 were great medium rare, 1 was a bit too blue), and other had the pasta which was reported as very tasty. The Ambrosia dessert was simple, light, and topped off a very enjoyable meal. The restaurant was BUSY. So the small number of staff were BUSY. There was a bit of a wait for drinks, which arrived after our meals, and after a reminder. But the staff were cheerful, the vibe friendly amongst tables of rival rugby supporters as we watched the Chiefs vs Crusaders. All in all, we had a great night, and came back for breakfast the following morning - and there he was again - George, with his friendly smile, sold us again.More
