Visited here twice over the last month and had different experiences in terms of service. The first time service was quick and efficient whereas second time it was slow and despite being sat outside for ten minutes menus were not brought until we asked for them. In terms of the food it’s delicious hence the 4/5 given. Ordered breakfasts which were adapted to be vegetarian the first time: second time eggs Benedict with mushroom and poached eggs on toast. Reasonably price and good quality food.

Beautiful food as always :)

I don't typically get to eat out a lot except when on holiday so I when I do its a bit of a treat. Urbano is one of the few places where you get consistantly great food and service. Unlike some places whose charges are similar, at Urbano you don't feel like you have just paid too much for a meal you could have rustled up at home. Fresh and delicious - something for everyone!

After an eventful day we hadn’t decided on what to do for dinner and luckily Urbano was just down the road from our hotel so we decided to pop in and see if we could get a table. Urbano is a cute little restaurant and the staff were prompt, welcoming and lovely, we got a table straight away and our order was taken as soon as we were ready. Our food didn’t take long to come out once ordered either and it was nice and hot which is always a bonus. My partner and I both ordered the Pork Belly as a main (it’s in the entree’s section of the menu but for just $12 extra you can get this as a main) with a side of the potatoes and we were not disappointed at all, this meal was full of flavour, fresh and absolutely delicious. We would both highly recommend it and sadly were both too full for the amazing sounding desserts but we are definitely going to return at some stage.

Along with a group of friends I visited for Brunch on a Sunday morning.

Upon arrival at 9.40 a.m. we were seated at our table with our group, the venue was busy, but not overly so. We waited patiently with our friends at our table for service. At about 10.05 a waiter arrived and took only beverage orders ( this is for a morning service, typically patrons do not repeat order beverages with brunch) then after some time a waitress arrived at 10.23 and took our meal orders. Some of the beverages had arrived by this time and some after. I had ordered a pot of tea to enjoy with my brunch. Only after some of our party whom were getting somewhat impatient by 10.50 a.m. inquired as to when we might be served did some food appear. I received my order of muesli at about 11.00 a.m. By this time my tea was both stewed and tepid. When the manageress was queried about the near hour and a quarter wait for brunch she took it as a personal affront and became most aggressive and rude, and stated that if we were not happy we should have gone elsewhere. I have to mention that during the time we were waiting several other groups and couples had arrived, been seated, eaten, paid and left . Also the food was overpriced, excessively garnished and my muesli had enough poppy seeds to nearly induce an opium trip. In conclusion. The venue has far more tables than the kitchen staff can cover. The food whilst basically good is over garnished. The greed and pretension of the management shine through. AVOID!!!

A Brunch Must

Hotel breakfasts are expensive and have limited selections. Head to Urbano Bistro for a fabulous brunch. It is open from 9 am serving breakfast, lunch and dinners. Plenty of parking around the restaurant. We made a reservation but you can walk in too. Great atmosphere and it is nice to sit down and have your order taken versus ordering at the counter. We were a group of 4 sitting for brunch. Our drink orders were taken immediately. Then, the waitress came back to take our food order. We ordered eggs Benedict with bacon, the open steak sandwich and the French toast. The hollandaise sauce was delicious and not smothering the plate. Eggs were cooked perfectly and it had fresh spinach also on the toast. The steak sandwich was a large portion of steak and fries; all well seasoned. It is came with a nice dipping aioli. The French toast was the star of brunch made on brioche bread served with fresh strawberries, blueberries and bananas and fresh cream. A beautiful and scrumptious dish. The meal took 15-18 mins to arrive to our table which had some of the ladies a bit miffed but it is worth the wait. The menu had many options and lots of sweets to choose from to finish off your meal. We would come back and try other meals like lunch and dinner based on the quality, taste and portion size of the food. If you are in Rotura, Urbano is a must try for brunch. Enjoy!

Nothing spectacular

Wasn’t too bad, service was good. I got the all day breakfast, definitely wasn’t blown away by it. The food quality was decent, just nothing amazing. I had the big breakfast, and my wife had the French toast. For what it cost, the amount of bacon we felt was a little bit stingy, and the proportions of the plate were slightly out.

Not good food at all. Staff were good and the location is good but the food is not. We were 6 adults ordering starters and mains and while the mains were average the starters were really bad. We had cheese platter and ”antipasti” ie crap meat. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Hidden treasure discovered

I’ve lived in Rotorua almost three years and have often driven past Urbano but wasn’t aware of the amazing food to be discovered inside. We had a work dinner there and although the restaurant appeared quite open, once seated it felt intimate. The service throughout the night was superb even though the restaurant was busy - and it was a Tuesday! The meals were wonderfully crafted, we had just a main and dessert and left well satisfied. The prices were a little higher but you get what you pay for and I’d prefer to pay an extra few dolars to get higher quality. Well done Urbano, I’ll be back.

What A Find

Stayed very close to this fantastic Restaurant in Rotorua, strolled down without a booking and proceeded to get served up one of the best meals we have eaten anywhere in the world. Unrivalled service, attention to detail in every course we ate, and a super impressive wine list to boot. Will be back in a heartbeat and thoroughly recommend anyone in Rotorua to do the same. Footnote : My wife left he glasses at the table, rang the next morning and they assured her they had them and would courier them to our home in Wellington, arrived two days later, what more is there to say about this place really, totally on top of their game.

Delicious Lunch

Urbano offered our extended family a warm welcome, which included crayons and colouring books for our two grandsons. We ordered a variety of meals which were all delicious and beautifully presented. The maître d’ is a lovely friendly person who we remembered from a visit a few years previous. She also gave us a tip on a biking and walking attraction worth a visit. The atmosphere is relaxed but lovely and bathrooms were clean. We attempted to book for dinner the next evening but it was already fully booked. I highly recommend Urbano Bistro.

An outstanding meal and service for a hard working committee

Dining atmosphere is out of this world. The food was amazing as my appetite has not been the greatest lately however I managed to demolish the Fish of the Day go onto the cheeseboard as well. a As a trainer of Hospitality for 23 years who is picky about service etiquette I could not fault anything. Timings, attentive without been obtrusive.

Fabulous restaurant

We were a large group of adults and a few toddlers and were accommodated well for lunch with perfect service. The coffee was great, with many milk options which was fantastic. And the food was very delicious. Can highly recommend and we will be back!

Perfect meal

Wonderful service and perfect food. Just come back from the UK and been to several Michelin star restaurants. This is in fact comparable to them. The meat / protein is always cooked to perfection whatever you choose. The accompaniments are a perfect match. A real gem! I rarely post reviews but they deserve it so had to! Also - Shout out to our waitress Preet, who always makes us feel so welcome!

Fabulous brunch

Four of us just had brunch here. Absolutely delicious. We all had different meals and different drinks and they were all fresh, delicious and amazing. The service was friendly, professional and really efficient. The only problem we had was deciding what to eat - so many options on the brunch menu and wanted to try them all. Congrats to the owners and staff for a great experience. Will be back whenever we in Rotorua again.

You know this place is a gem when locals flock through the doors every night. The food is delicious and the specials of the day are always different which means eating here regularly is always a delight. The service is friendly and efficient and were following all the guidelines. If you want an awesome dining experience eat here!!!
