"Awesome hospitality"

We went for dinner at the exservicemen club Paihia to the restaurant called 'Legends" which I had googled The bar lady had given us phone directions on how to get there.as I wanted to see if it was wheelchair accessible before dinner. "yep" and it was. On arriving into the club the people were friendly and a lovely man greeted us and told us to write our names and sign in. Upstairs in the restaurant we were also met by a lovely lady, very hospitable making sure our table was OK that there was room for my sons wheelchair. We ordered mussel entree and our food which the same lady brought out was delicious. The roast meal my husband and I had was very filling with lovely veges and gravy. My son had the spaghetti bolognese which he ate all of it and my moko had the steak which she loved and ate and loved the garlic sauce. I ordered our desserts which because they didn't have enough glasses the same size the lady that was looking after us reduced the price for our ice cream Sundaes. How generous of her. She done an amazing job looking after us. I would eat there anytime if I am in Paihia. The food is a very reasonable cost and lovely. The host was awesome and on behalf of our whanau (as our kids just took off after their kai and didnt say thank you) I say thank you very much...

Dinner at Legends

We got the ferry over from Russell on xmas eve as we wanted to have dinner at Legends and it was great we had the roast beef and it was a beautiful meal, plenty toeat and beautifuly cooked and presented. We didnt need dessert as we were well satisfied with the roast. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Opening night post COVID lockdown - excellent!

Fabulous food on opening night under new management, and first night after COVID lockdown. We were a party of 8 and everyone loved their meals, high quality and very affordable. Located inside the Paihia Club but open to everyone, definitely recommend!

Return visit 30 years on!

We had been here 30 years ago! Hasn’t changed much. The man on the door still really friendly! Don’t know if it’s the same man!! Memory not that good. But he was very welcoming and explained what we needed to do. Went up to the dining room. Food is simple but tasty. A couple of us had the roast. A couple had the prawn cocktail and a couple the fish and chips. Unfortunately I was too full for dessert! I spied a couple of really good looking ice cream sundaes being delivered to a table. This is not a fancy place but you will get a good meal here and not pay the prices on the waterfront

Excellent food at very reasonable price and first class service

Went for lunch and ate from the two course lunch menu. The prawns were really tasty and big portion sizes. The chicken burger was huge and really tasty. The staff were really attentive and friendly. Great food and really reasonably priced. Will definitely return.

Lovely food

We had dinner here both nights staying at Paihia. A good range of food to choose from, well cooked, tasty and well presented. The staff were all very friendly and made us feel very welcome. A real bonus for someone with bad knees was the lift, thus avoiding the stairs.

Delicious and generous.

I ordered chicken korma and a garlic and cheese naan. My food was served piping hot which I like especially with my naan. Delicious, generous, very satisfying meal. Taking my leftovers home for later on. Thank you Madly Indian.

Good basic food

We had a dinner and a lunch here, both were very adequate without being flashy. They have an upstairs dining area but you are able to have your meal downstairs if the dining room is full.

This is the local club with good food. Not a huge selection but enough to satisfy most tastes. Meals were tasty and enjoyable. Service was great too.

Had dinner at legends tonight for the first time since under new management and it was amazing. Delicious food, great service and a very affordable night out. Couldn’t recommend it enough!

If you are looking for good food, but not fancy atmosphere

Obviously popular with locals! If you are not looking for a waiter-served meal, this was a wonderful place. Food was excellent, staff went out of their way to help you. Prices were right. My wife and I both had the steak meal - excellent. We also had the special ice cream Sundaes - again very good. Don’t be put off that it is an ex-service men’s club. Very welcoming.

Quantity over quality

This an ex servicemen club with pokies. In Australia that means Bain Marie food out packets and tins and very overpriced meals. This place is cheap unlike the RSL in Australia however my Mushroom/Chicken Risotto was way over salted and whilst generous in portions it missed the mark. My partner had the burger and that got a tick. The locals mainly retirees went for the beef cheeks which looked huge. Their market is large portions to offset what really is very average food. Drinks here are very well priced however the wines available are on the cheap end of the market. The club is run down however the locals form the majority of the custom and they just want cheap big meals. Not my cup of tea at all.

Recommended if you are after a good feed. We`ve been in Paihia for 6 nights and visited them few times. Every time they did well. The portions are decent size, the food is very tasty, and the service is good. They could take a bit if you are after deserts, but only if they get too busy. Would visit them any time we are in Paihia.

The restaurant is located inside the building of the ex-servicemen club. We were the only tourists, so apparently this is where the locals eat. Really nice atmosphere, nice burgers and the best mussels i’ve ever had in my life!
