We found this little gem of a shop/cafe by accident .The fish and chips were really fresh and nicely cooked.I chose the snapper fish burger,great burger with crisp salad but envied the fish and chips my partner ordered.Ended up sharing hoki,snapper,generous portions and reasonable prices. Service was excellent,not long to wait and we could eat inside at cafe style tables.The Chinese food offerings looked good.Would definitely visit again when next in Paihia..Found some interesting shops directly opposite that will be very good for some pre Christmas shopping.

Off the main thoroughfare but worth searching it out. Lots of other food available - Asian, burgers etc. Mainly a take-away but they have one large table and a counter inside and a few tables outside on the pavement. Order and pay at the counter; everything is cooked to order, so expect a short wait. No crockery is used (food is delivered in wrapped paper) and only wooden knives and forks are available. You have to pay extra for sauces but vinegar is available on the table. Nice friendly staff, very clean and plenty of locals collecting food, so that says a lot.

We chose to try Paihia Fish and Chips on a reccommendation from the host at our accommodation.
It is located on a side street just off the main road along the waterfront. There is parking but in busy times this might be hard to find. It is really a takeaway but they do have some seating available if you want to eat your takeaway there.
It was not busy when we arrived and instead of greeting us and taking our order the young man behind the counter ignored us while he stood and waited for an order to be cooked and given to that customer. Only then did he take our order without showing any enthusiam for his job.
We were then completely surprised when our order was ready, to find that he came out from behind the counter to where we were sitting, handed us our order wth a greetign and smile. It was such a transformation.
As we had been led to expect, our fish and chps were really good, a generous sized serving and nicely hot.

I found the prices to be quite expensive and the food to be just ok. The calamari was incredibly salty. The fish was dry however was a decent sized fillet. There were a good amount of chips that tasted about right for a fish and chip shop but not amazing.

Just stopped in to get some chips. The cashier couldn't be bothered to ask if we wanted any condiments for our chips, so when we asked for some after they were cooked she stated they cost $2 each. Thanks lady, thanks. Salt is a lovely seasoning, might I suggest a little sprinkle?

Wow. For $10.50 I received one of the largest meals of fish and chips I have ever seen.
The huge fish piece (Hoki) was all of 30mm long with a wedge of lemon and enough chips to feed at least 2 average adults or one very hungry person like I was that evening. Highly recommended.

Why oh why would you offer a lovely piece of fresh batterd fish and then ruin it with crappy frozen chips. No seasoning added either. A decent offering on the menu to burgers and Asian meals. Some what disappointed to say it came to almost $25 NZD for two meals. School report would read C can do better.

It was a good fish n chip, we enjoyed our dinner at here at Paihia. Location at the town centre just less than 200m from the wharf. Can be a bit longer waiting time during the dinner peak time. Not only fish n chip but also others are available here, burgers, Asian food and Vietnamese Noodle, and other sea food menu.

Service was excellent, fast & friendly for a Friday night.
Burger had everything, tasty, very filling. Partner usually inhales burgers but he raved bot how tasty it was. Chips were crisp and delicious.
Stirfry meal tasty, not spicy, rice was fluffy just the way I like.
Serving sizes are generous. We have left overs of everything except the burger.
We will happily eat here again.

Our first time visiting Paihia. We found this shop and ordered the deal consisting of 2 pieces of Hoki, 2 prawns, 2 onion rings, and chips. The service was fast. The food was delicious! The batter was light and crispy and the chips fluffy inside and crispy on the outside. More than enough food for the two of us. Very happy with this choice.

Probably a pretty average fish and chip chop when you consider how many good ones there are across the country. I thought being by the sea the quality of the fish might have been better (fresher catch etc) but everything was just pretty much run of the mills. Not bad, just average.

Been meaning to try this takeaway for a long time and wish we’d been sooner. My Pad Thai tasted great. Not the ‘prettiest’ in its takeaway carton, but very tasty and very generous - almost too much for one person, but I was hungry. My girlfriend’s Duck & Tamarind was great too. Look forward to trying the Thai curries soon too.

Consistently superb.
Snapper and chips...crunchy batter, fresh and finger linking good. So good we needed to visit them 3x on our 10 day stay. And the big bonus...wrapped in paper.

We stopped in here and grabbed takeaways for dinner. Probably the nicest fish and chips we have had in ages. good value for money, not a great range of fish to choose from but that probably cant be helped. Very nice thank you.

The Snapper and Chips is freshly cooked and very affordable price and The best fish and chips in town.
