My wife researched this place and we went right at opening time without a reservation on a Saturday evening. They were very accommodating with a proviso that are table was reserved in 90 minutes. No problem from our perspective. Then it got amazing. The opening course - ”snack trio” - was absolutely sublime. We relied on our server’s wine suggestions for the entire meal and were not disappointed. Normally we expect a few home runs and a few that come up short. Not the case for us; all courses were phenomenal. I don’t want to set these folks up for a fall (maybe they were outdoing themselves this particular evening), but if you have the same meal we had and don’t float out of the place, we’re going to have some words 😀.

We had the six-course tasting menu and each and every course was of Michelin Star standard. We also had one wine pairing out of interest, but also a bottle of 2018 Maude Pinot Noir.
The six courses were based on gazpacho, cured King Fish, roasted eggplant, pan fried Butter Fish, lamb, and finally a mousse and sorbet, and all were wonderful. All six accompanying wines were also very good (as was the Pinot Noir).
Unfortunately the service was chaotic (albeit friendly). After the first course we waited quite a while before enquiring if they had forgotten about us, and after apologising eventually brought us the third course. When we pointed out we had not had the second course they brought that after the third course and then proceeded with the next three courses in the correct order. They also forgot to bring us a second piece of bread, and then charged us extra when we asked for it (a trivial amount, but symptomatic of the lack of communication between staff).
Despite the deficiencies in the service we greatly enjoyed our evening and would not hesitate to return.

This Restaurant was highly recommended in our Guide Book and also scored highly on Trip Advisor. It was one of a number of restaurants we had mailed to book reservations before we left the UK
Their tasting menu had received many plaudits and whilst we didn’t think that we could manage 6 courses we bravely opted to give it a go. We had perhaps the finest meal of our holiday so far. Add in a decent bottle of locally produced Rose wine, great service and coffees at the end and we were both replete and impressed
You must eat here!

There are 3 things that I believe a good restaurant should have:
1. Outsdanting and innovative Food
2. Attentive Service
3. Good Atmosphere
Unfortunately we felt bistronomy did not tick of all of these things. We had booked a table over three months ago and were expecting this to be a highlight of our trip to napier. First of all despite booking so early in advance we were seated in the worst possible table jammed between the door and the coffee machine, meaning we felt disconnected from the whole ambiance of the restaurant. Our waiter was cold and felt like we rushed through our dining experience and we felt like they just wanted to get our table free for the next sitting. We opted for the 6 course tasting menu as we wanted to try a highlight of their dishes. We felt like only 2 out of the 6 courses were outstanding with the rest being average, unflavoursame and sometimes cold. The portion sizes were also outrageously small and we left hungry
The whole evening was rushed as plates were delivered without cutlery or the next course being served before the last one was cleared. We finished our bottle of wine at the start of course 3 and nothing else was offered to us for the rest of the evening. We had very high expectations and recommendations that were unfortunately not met. We will not be returning in a hurry, as if you are prepared to charge top dollar you need to be able to deliver.

Ah! Ever looked forward to going to a restaurant just to be let down in the end? That would sum up Bistronomy for us. We found The restaurant over the net and based on the reviews decided to book a table.
Bistronomy is typically considered to be a highly rated restaurant with good food, and I would agree with the latter point. We mostly liked our entrees and mains and some highlights were the ceviche entree with avocado cream and tamarillo sorbet, and the tomato paella main. The other two entrees were a fried chicken and a kumara soup. The soup came with a slice of kumara bread which unfortunately was a bit too charred on parts of the bread. The fried chicken looked superb with a lovely crust but the chicken meat itself was extremely salty. We shared the Angus Rib eye steak which was the other main. That came with a great fresh bean and sprout salad, and potato fries. The steak was enjoyed but a tad too red.
What let Bistronomy down tonight for us was its service. We waited 45 minutes for our mains to arrive after the entrees which is far too long - this was after we enquired after a 35 minute or so wait. The restaurant was busy but I would have thought that they should be able to cope although we noted that there was at least one other table feeling frustrated with their wait times. The waiting staff was not attentive at all, coming to refill our water glasses once only after they knew we were unhappy and even then, my husband and I were asked while our daughter was ignored. Front of desk did not apologise for the long wait or enquire after our meal when I paid, nor thanked us for our custom.
Competition is rife in the hospitality world so, good service needs to accompany good food for patrons to keep returning.

I only have two dinner in Napier of my trip and I wasted one of mine to this restaurant. Very disappointed! Full of expectation before I arrive. deco is nice, service really need improvement. We ordered 9 courses menu with wine matching, one of the main dish was missing, wine matching sometimes didn’t come until I chase for it. None of the food was very memorable. The finally dessert was really bad to me. To be honest their wine list is good and very reasonable priced. Got two hat from cuisine magazine but I will give no hat to this. Not recommended. Go try Pacifica and you will be much more appreciated

This is a popular, modern, open-plan eatery in the heart of Napier city. The indoor space is particularly appealing.
We chose one of the tables out front which line the pavement on a warm summers evening. The service is great - efficient, friendly and very knowledgeable about things like the wine list (especially useful in this part of the world where lots of people are visiting because of the wines). I also love that this place is committed to being a Living Wage employer. We ordered the steak to share and the gnocchi. The food was a little underwhelming - small portions, fresh ingredients, but unimaginative and bland. Not what you would expect at these prices. Big ticks for environment and service, but a lower score for taste and value.

We were recommended this unassuming looking restaurant by a local Naperite and it exceeded all expectations. The menu and wine list were exceptional and not by any means expensive. The plate servings while small were exquisitely tasty and beautifully presented. It was one of those places where you just wanted to try everything on the menu so we all ordered something different and did just that. Excellent attention by staff as well. All in all a wonderful dining experience and I just wished I lived closer.

Need to book early as even on a monday evening only booking on line we could get was an early one. Well worth a visit, pleasant setting and ambience. Food was delicious and well presented with very good service. Stand outs were the trevelly sashimi, boneless chicken wing entrees and duck tortellini with confit duck egg...latter very clever. Prices good for this standard of food, except for the rib eye which, although substantive and nicely presented was over priced. Good wine and drinks list, but the cheese tasting plate disappointing. Overall though top notch and would go again.

This venue came highly recommended and the 5 of us fail to see why. We were told there was vegan options, there was one which is ok but was not good. I had the Hawkes bay mushrooms, a major disappointment and at $34.50 left a very bad taste. The tofu and soy milk sauce tasted of just that whilst the mushrooms tasted of vinegar. It wasn’t value for money at all. The rest of the party had gurnard, a strong taste in itself the rest of the dish seemed un flavoured.
As sober driver I wanted juice but they only serve fizzy drinks so I just had tap water as their table water was fizzy too, no option offered.
The restaurant was not busy but our food took an age to arrive.
The wait staff didn’t crack a smile once and looked like they would have preferred to be any where other than serve us.
For a special New Year’s Eve dinner with close friends this was such a major disappointment we paid and left with our ordering dessert or staying for after dinner drinks.
My recommendation would be to avoid and go somewhere else and end up with change in your pocket.

We both ordered the 6 course tasting menu. From the start to the end every dish and the wine match to go was wonderful it was so much fun not knowing what the next dish or wine would be. The wine was presented in detail a few minutes before the accompanying dish and we enjoyed food we might not normally order. Next time we are in Napier Bistronomy is a must visit.

We enjoy and love this restaurant sooo much! The food is exquisite, so many choices for us that are vegetarian or vegan. The menu changes often and we know it's always going to be great food. It's fresh, full of flavour and we love the service.
The restaurant supervisor Matt is excellent, his choices of wine for us are amazing and we're always made to feel welcome and remembered. We love the free glass of sparkling water which is abundant. Totally recommend this restaurant to everyone for a superb night out and guaranteed good food. Thank you all.

Having eaten all over NZ for a decade or more I have to say this is one of the very best dining experiences to be had in this country. We were in town for a conference and my wife and I went out for dinner and had the "chefs choice" with the wine pairings. It was so good we talked about it the next day and our friends demanded to that we all come again. It was as good if not better the second time. Really outstanding value. The sommelier is worth the price of admission alone with excellent knowledge and passion, and no condescension. The food was outstanding for this price range. I'd go back in a heart beat - we had a great time as a group (5). We've been to Pasture/French Cafe/Rata etc etc many times . The food was not quite there but the experience was and it was a lot less price wise. Absolutely fabulous.

It promised much but delivered average. They openly declare that the menu is small so choice is limited so if you are veggie there is an option but only one. However that’s not the main issue for me as I do eat fish. They wouldn’t do a variation on the 6 course tasting menu which is fair enough so we went a la carte. My mushroom starter was superb. The fish main, however, was a bit style over substance. Pretty looking but lacking in flavour and the bean cassoulet was lukewarm.
Service friendly but set up of restaurant and music quite loud.

We enjoyed our meal but we didn’t think it was outstanding. Reviews suggested it to be of the highest standard. However in our opinion every element of our meal was nice but no part was was particularly tasty or memorable. We feel that this restaurant has a little way to go before it reaches the levels that we are used to of the higher end establishments in the UK. Having said this they clearly have a superb range of fine wines
