Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I chose the Thai Beef salad, was very disappointed, it was tough and cold, I know this can be served hot or cold, but this was luke to cold. Also felt they had put too much fish sauce or salt to the dish as was...very salty. My family had fish and chips, happy, and Seafood Chowder, happy, though felt there should have been more seafood in this.More

I stayed nearby and had breakfast at East Pier three times. There was a good selection of dishes, and great service, even at 7.30am.

The meals very underwhelming. Fish and chips and Cesar salad. 3 of us had the fish, not fresh at all plus, all meals were not good value for money. Suggest chief and owner try fish and chips at Gin trap for a great fish and...chip meal and other meals. We have had poor experiences at the east pier before however, thought we would give another chance. We will not be back. Staff were good.More

Wifes 1st steak was well over cooked ( asked for medium rare) meals had obviously been sitting under heat lamps ,sent it back and the replacement was barely seared basically raw and cold. Unfortunately wait staff had no idea what to say or do. Chef...needs some trainingMore

Staff not busy but talking at bar and forgot our order. Food was good. Good portion size but expensive as you need to buy salad or veges to go with the meal. TV on with sports playing through out meal. Despite being in orange level...staff did not wear masks.More

Lunch meal I chose Tarakihi ,it was served over a bed of sloppy tasteless, pale lemon- colour Risotto. The fish was over- cooked and tasteless, much like frozen fish can be. It was sitting on a few wilted Rocket leaves that added no flavour. It was...followed up by a satisfactory dessert. This meal was very overpriced and the main was quite disgusting. I complained to the serving staff who assured me it was fresh fish and didn’t appreciate my comment. I will never eat there again with the choices we have in Napier where there are numerous fine eateries at a fair priceMore

We ordered a platter for our group and it came surprisingly quick and hot, as it should. Everything was tasty. The service was friendly enough. Not a lot else to say really - just happy everything was too our liking.

We had friends from out of town staying so checked out East Pier for lunch. So disappointing, the restaurant has no atmosphere and looks like a staff canteen at best. We didn't stay

Met friends for lunch at East Pier and what a disappointment. The waitresses were very casually dressed - one had straggly greasy hair wearing ripped jeans and neither of them knew details of the menu on offer. Asked what the fish of the day was...and 'I don't know'. I waited and she eventually said 'do you want me to find out?' Ordered gurnard with fries and salad. Batter on fish was soggy, chips were overcooked and luke warm and the salad could only be described as 'limp". It clearly hadn't been in a frig as the lettuce was warm and the slivers of cucumber and radish were soft and there was no dressing of any kind. When we finished our main meal we waited for the waitress to come and ask if we wanted to order dessert and/or coffee which she finally did. But when we asked if they had a dessert menu she shrugged her shoulders and pulled. a face when we asked if there was biscotti or a sweet slice we could have with our coffees. I haven't been to East Pier for some time and it will be a very long time before I return or recommend it to anyone else.More

As a chef with considerable experience cooking in establishments ranging from 4 Star to budget Brasseries, East Pier Brasserie today had the audacity to serve me up the worst plate of food I've ever seen in my life. The fact that it was the simplest...of plates ... Fish and Chips ... is mind boggling. There is no defence in serving this horrible experience to a customer and expecting them not only to eat it, but to pay for it as well. How dare the chef a) call him/herself a chef, b) be so uncaring in what they are doing, c) be so incredibly insulting to assume this kind of rubbish is suitable fare to serve to any one. An absolute disgrace. The 'meal' was sent back. The front of house agreed it was disgusting, the chef sent no apology and neither did the manager, no alternative was offered. The chef refused to face up to explain his/her disgraceful behaviour. I would sincerely recommend no one eat from this dreadful, dreadful unprofessional kitchen.More

I've just read one or two not so positive reviews for this eating place, however, Credit Where It Is Due and I would like to share my experience from yesterday 25/12/2020. When I booked and paid in advance for my elderly Mother and myself I...requested we might have seating away from drafts and foot traffic. When we were seated I noted straight away that we had space (for a walker) and were in a secure position among many people, so a good start with the complimentary glass of Prosecco. There was a queue to select food but this buffet approach provides customers to select exactly what they want and how much they want. I took two plates for myself and my Mother (she eats very little) and I was offered the opportunity to progress the queue which I refused but certainly appreciated. We both enjoyed our meal and dessert with clean plates all round. Please understand if my Mother was happy, I was happy and she repeated to me how much she had enjoyed her outing and lunch experience at East Pier. At all times the waiting staff were kind and considerate and were quick to help and support my Mother when such help was needed ( eg toilet trip). They deserve a special mention as such support could well be outside their brief and responsibility. Great food, background music, coastal ambience, caring efficient staff all made the day for Mum and I. Michael AshwellMore

Such a beautiful spot but breakfast was very average. The Benedict sauce was cold and leaves you feeling like you ate a jar of mayonnaise and the bacon was steamed rather than fried and crispy, who wants cold fat. I hope management realizes that whoever...cooks here is driving customers away, we wont be back to spend money. Sorry but this is constructive criticism, not trying to be nasty.More

With the awesome spot by the sea you would expect a great experience. Sadly no. The smoked chicken salad salad greens consisted of lettuce and 2 small slices of tomato. My friend's had no feta as advertised. The haloumi dish had extra thick chunks which...were dry and hard. And that was it. No salad or anything else on the plate. The menu was so ordinary and the meals were too expensive for what we got. I definitely will not be going backMore

We were very disappointed with this restaurant. The quality of the food was very poor; the fish was dry, the squid (which we thought was a signature dish for this place) was way to salty and there was far to much dressing on the salad....The actual menu was very lack Lustre. Maybe that is why a restaurant so close to the sea (beautiful spot) had so few customers!! We also found the staff wanting; after our meal no one offered us dessert or coffee. All in all very disappointing. We would definitely not recommend this place to othersMore
