Was a super great experience. Very nice kingfisher on tap in large glasses. Classic Indian cuisine. Would go again any day of the week!

While the décor is not as "Indian" as some Indian restaurants that counts for little. The food was universally delightful. Authentic? I am not Indian and so I am not qualified to judge but it was totally to our tastes. The dishes were served hot...and in a very timely fashion. The owner's daughter served us. She was very helpful and friendly - a delight to interact with. Her father was also very obliging and made very useful suggestions. He delivered separately some "Indian hot sauce". I really enjoyed that I think I will ask or that next time. They also readily gave us the left overs to take home. The BYO wine charge was not excessive a $5.More
Thank You so much your lovely cement
This has been our go to Indian Restaurant for some time and it’s always been consistently great. Last night was no exception, but would like to comment on the friendly and helpful service, a factor almost as important as the food quality.
Thankyu whole team of restaurant and specially Manish Gorilla Head chef thankyu for awesome food we will come back
Good atmosphere, Great food and the greatest service in Taradale. Our family came here for the butter chicken but stayed for the staff.
Great welcome, excellent service, fantastic food. Tried two curries we had never had before, highly recommended
Thank you so much for the great feedback, really appreciate it. Hope to see you back soon.
Friendly & welcoming. Nothing is too much of a problem and the food is consistently good. Recommend for lunch or dinner.
Thank you we appreciate your feedback hope to see you soon.
It’s cold, I’m on July holiday break. The ‘ Star ‘ was opened for lunch. I got two medium curries that were accurately spiced medium, rice and the best puffy parata style roti I’ve had in years. It was just like one you would have...in India. Good on you Star of India for pleasant and fast Lunchtime service.More
This is so amazing to hear Margaret that you enjoyed our curries for lunch thank you so much for the feedback we really appreciate it . Hope to see you soon.
Popped by and it was busy. Greeted warmly and shown to a table. Good selection of drinks and food on offer. Despite being busy we were served quickly. Service was friendly and efficient. We opted for the prawn makhani and the chicken jalfrezi. The food...was cooked well and there was plenty. The prawns were super juicy. Generous portion of rice and delicious garlic naan. Not the best I have ever had but we left feeling satisfied. Would be happy to return.More
Thanks for your lovely feedback ...Looking forward to see you again:)
This is my 13 yr olds favourite place for butter chicken (mild). I always go for aloo gobi. I recommend what they call Indian Hot - it's perfect hot. I've tried to reproduce it at home but I fail on the spice mix. Coriander. I...suspect chef varies it to mess with me. They do offer lunchtime specials. There's another one in Hastings. Nice work, Star of India.More

Just had chicken Korma takeaway.....it cost around $17 and the amount of chicken....even some of that was scrappy rubbish...was pathetic! It was like an entree size....I wish I had taken a photo now or taken it back! You need to up your game and stop...ripping customers off.More
Thank you for your review. Our sizes for the full portion is similar to many indian restaurants in the bay. Some restaurants sell the exact same size for over 20 dollars. We would recommend you call in on the day to express your views so...More
Called in for dinner after another afternoon out. Last here a few months back and enjoyed our meal then - once again very happy. Service was very good and we got a smile from our waitress. The food came in good time and was uniformly...excellent. Lot of people in and out for take out but it was nice and quiet. Place was clean and tidy. Tried the Lamb Hawardi? which was really nice - had medium but it had a bit of a bite which is the way I prefer it. The others had different dishes and all considered them great. We don't come to Taradale very often but will certainly return should the need arise againMore

Looking for a quick meal after an afternoon out. Called in without any reservation and were shown to a table with no fuss (they were expecting a large group later but no problem), Our orders were taken and the food came out in short order...- delicious (the others all had mild - I chose medium heat - good choice but I wouldn't want to go any hotter!), Three of us had various Kormas and one had butter chicken - all were good. Recommend - food good, service goodMore
thanks grant for the lovely compliment!!! Really appreciate it!!! see you again:)
The onion bhaji was excellent and the tamarind sauce with it was an appropriate thickness, so that it did not all run off, when food was removed from the dipping dish. The pakora were tasty, too. Inclined towards being a mixed vegetable fritter in style,...with individual vegetable pieces not readily discernible.Good eating, nonetheless. To me, the samosas were surprisingly mild - given some fiery mouth experiences at other places. Could be a bit too mild for those who "like it hot." Nice enough, for all that. The garlic naan was really garlicy with palatable strength of taste and aroma. Among the best we've tasted. The mango paneer my partner had was delightful, too.More
This restaurant serves generous quantities of excellent Indian food at a reasonable price. The service is friendly & efficient & the seating is comfortable. We arrived at around 7.30 pm & were some of the last customers. Hence the atmosphere was initially lively but gradually...quietened. As in many small NZ towns, people tend to eat early & we were advised that the Star of India usually closed by 9.30. The restaurant offers all of its curries either mild, medium, hot or Indian hot. I elected for hot, which was quite hot enough for me, accompanied by a large glass of draught Kingfisher.More
