August - 2023 Several visits while staying in the nearby Crown Hotel. Good coffee. Nibbles a bit pricey. Weekend crowds were very pretentious and reflected in service (our server seems astonished that we only ordered toast - we rarely eat breakfast anyway). We’ll try again on a weekday but I have no trouble giving a recommendation - comfortable cafe seating indoors/patio seating outside and good coffee.

We were staying across the road at Harbour View, so this place as very handy, being across the road (and recommended by them). We were very impressed with our breakfast, the Christmas special of waffles, with blueberries and ice cream. This was very tasty! I'm extremely fussy about my coffee and I go to a cafe at least once every day when I'm home. The coffee was superb (flat white)! I tend to ask for extra hot coffee whenever I visit New Zealand as I find it quite common for cafes to serve warm, but not hot, coffees. Once again, it was perfect!

I wrote a fairly bad review some months ago. What a change! Brilliant food and service. The cost of a steak here is very similar to the pub food across the road at the Boardwalk but the quality is vastly better at Milk and Honey. Breakfast is good to! Well done team now an excellant poduct and really good food.

Two full breakfasts ordered. Average taste, not good quality. Service poor. Asked to swap baked beans to hash brown (same value). Waitress English was very poor, making it difficult to request. Then charged additional $10 for swap without advising. Overall dissapointing. Do not recommend.

Very disappointing the fish crudo was inedible. Couldn't cut and smelt off so didn't eat. Partners omelet was tasteless and the cheese was like chewing gum, served with soggy buttered bread. Sorry but this is second time we have had lunch here and both times have been disappointing. Won't be giving it a third go. They did remove the fish from bill after I complained .

Our Sunday lunch at Milk and Honey with friends was pleasant. The meal and service were OK except the waiter wanted to clear the plates when it was perfectly obvious that one person at our table had not finished her meal. We ordered a bottle of expensive red wine which was very enjoyable but only finished half of the bottle and were intending to take the rest of the wine with us. But NO. We found out that this was not permitted. So we had to leave without the wine we had paid for. And so we left feeling very disgruntled and ripped off. We are not planning to return.

The waiters could not remember who ordered what ... and kept running around the tables asking patrons if it is their food or not! It took two hours to get our breakfast and, by then, it was lunch time. The place is shambolic, disorganised and the food below average. Pizza for some reason has greek names and the base is guey. A real disgrace to italian food. Looks cooked from frozen same like the dumplings. The big breakfast was average. The rice was ok. Coffee - boiling hot and burnt I was left with a bitter taste not only from the coffe but the dissapointment. The place is not what it use to be anymore.

From the outside this cafe/restaurant looked inviting and stylish. There were people dining inside and out. First impressions on entry were positive, we were seated to a shared table which was great considering how busy they seemed, we were glad to be served. Menu looks interesting when you start going through it but I noticed that a lot of the items seemed expensive I.e. bau buns for $18. None the less we opted for a pizza for the kids, mince on toast for the wife and fried rice with bacon for me. 1. Pizza came out swift and looked good. The kids went though it quite quickly. Positive. 2. Mince on toast had tomato in it so seems more like a bolognaise. Toast had barely seen the inside of the toaster so was more like bread. Negative. 3. My fried rice was meant to have mushrooms, shallots, carrots and a fried egg (bacon was additional). When it arrived it was missed by the mushrooms so only 4/5 ingredients. When I queried this with the staff they told me the fried rice wasn’t meant to have mushrooms. When I pointed out the ingredient I was then told that “they don’t put mushrooms in any more as they aren’t been sent by their supplier”. I wasn’t offered any alternatives/substitutions or a discount, just the poor excuses and high was disappointing. It would have been better if they had just replaced the missing elements with something else. Without the mushrooms I ended up paying $25 ish for dry boring old fried rice. Wasn’t that nice but I did finish it which is more of a testament to my desire not to waste anything. Serious negative. Service and speed of production was good. Overall an expensive and slightly disappointing meal. Bit of style over substance with this one, we wouldn’t recommend unless you have no where else to go.

We didn't realise it had changed ownership until we ordered coffees. Used to be excellent but not any more. Ordered TA, she started making them in a cup The chai latte was made with a syrup out of a plastic jug. We had ordered it with oat milk and I just stopped her in time making it with full dairy milk. Latte was not drinkable and long blacks bitter. Will not return!

This place was top nothing until a recent change of ownership. The wine list has lost all the good local wines and is limited to say the least. The staff are all New mainly with English as their second language. The menu is a fraction of it former self and seems to vary daily. For example HB fish is a great dish. It has been replaced by fish and chips which one can buy around the corner at half the price. I am left with the impression that cash flow is not flash and I suspect it will not survive much longer.

Awful experience on a Saturday morning, was just catching up with a friend and 2 kids before work at 9:15am, we ordered 2 coffees and 2 hot chocolates. 20 minutes in no service, so i call a young waitress over, another 20 minutes in coffee hasn't arrived, people that came in after us already had food and coffee served, i then went up to the counter to ask for them to be made takeaway. 10 minutes later the young lad pours them from the cups into the takeaway ones which then makes all drinks half empty *paid $21 for 4 drinks*. The customers in front of me and behind me were also asking the same questions 'we've been here over an hour whats going on' Its a shame that your entire staff on the busiest day are all teenagers that don't seem to know what's going on, not at their fault. I think its sad that the owners are clearly more interested in making money than providing a good customer and staff experience. Will never go back.

Wow, our meals were amazing. We each had a different dish - the fish of the day (snapper), the lamb rack and the creamy chicken florentine. Each meal was primo, taste, quality and quantity were perfect. The drinks menu is great. There is nothing we could fault!

Stopped in for a morning coffee and scone while passing through Napier which we often do. Place was busy but still empty tables. Obviously short staffed as tables were not cleared promptly. We received one scone after 10 or so minutes being told the other one was on its way. We waited for another 20 minutes, still no coffee or second scone. When I asked I was told we gave run out of plates to put them on!! They almost ran out of coffee cups too!! I told the batista we would have ours in takeaway cups if that helped!!! I then had to go and ask for our second scone which was now on a plate but sitting on the bench. Hot/made drinks often sat on the counter for a few minutes before being delivered as there didn't seem to be any staff system for delivery. I have noticed this on previous visits too. If the coffee/scones weren't so good we wouldn't return!!

When we arrived (wearing our masks and signing in) we were greeted by a woman, we told her we would like a table outside for dinner and she said to grab a table outside and she would bring over some menus. 15mins or possibly more later and lots of looking around to catch any of the 3 wait staffs attention we were still menu-less, drink-less but had around 6 empty glasses from the group before us left on our table. When the original lady came back out to serve another table I managed to get her attention (she looked at me bewildered and blank) and I said “excuse me but would we be able to get those menus and a drinks list now please?”, “yes sure thing she said” no apology, other tables that were already eating were being served bottles of wine while eating etc when we still hadn’t been given even a drinks menu!… when we put our order in with another waitress who apologised for the wait profusely, we ordered drinks, entrees and mains altogether as we weren’t sure when the waiter would attend to us again) our entree came out before our two drinks. Food was overpriced for quality and service received. Won’t be recommending or dining here again. Sadly, this was our first and now last experience here.

I ordered the falafels with pickled vegetables. The falafels were shaped like small cannon balls and were just as hard. I could only get my fork into them after vigorously stabbing them several times. The pickled vegetables tasted like fresh vegetables. I am sure the carrot was peeled from a raw carrot. The meal was quite small and not good value for money, bordering on inedible. I ate it because I was so hungry but had the distinct feeling I had eaten a plate of sawdust after getting through the six miniature cannon balls on my plate. The waiter did not ask if I had enjoyed my meal. I paid and left vowing not to return again.
