Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Of course there’s always a best and worst table in a restaurant. Regrettably we got the last table available, the booth opposite the kitchen. And soon found out why that table was left til last. Very cold draft from fan above the table and another...one in the kitchen. The fan above was turned off for us but obviously the kitchen one could not be. Survivable but not pleasant. Avoid this table! Food was great.More

Food was lovely, but very expensive for the portions. Definitely not for a family, would be great for a romantic dinner.

We booked a table at the Central Fire Station Bistro to mark our last night in Napier… good choice! The welcome was good, table fine and the service continued in fine form. We ate oysters (great and only 5NZD each), beetroot tart (brill) and pork...to follow. Food was great and my wife exclaimed “Even the turnips are good!” at some point during main course… Wine was good also… all in all a good end to a week in Napier.More

Nice building and good food. I felt that the cold service left it down a little. Overall a pleasant experience but could do better on service.

The brown butter for the bread was way too sweet, tasted like caramalised condensed milk. The manchego balls were tasty, but something you'd find at a street food stall for $5, not at a fine dining restaurant. The duck was cooked beautifully, as was the...fish, but the sauces were way too salty and made finishing the plate hard. The house baileys was incredibly MEH and tasted like the brown butter. The chocolate semifreddo was smoooooth but the cream on top was icy and the whole pieces of dried stewed fruit unnecessary. All in all, the food is good, but not good enough for the price tag or for "fine dining". I regretted not checking out the local Indian at the beachfront instead.More

Delighted that even though we called last minute, they found us a spot. The bistro ambience was lively and fun. The food was epic! Best meal we’ve had yet on our New Zealand trip. Oddly what was most memorable was their warm crusty sourdough bread...with whipped burnt/caramelized butter. HEAVEN!! A shout-out to the great service from Liz - helpful, authentic and engaging 🌟 🙂More

Best meal in New Zealand. As well as from being most attractively housed in an art deco building, the interior of this restaurant is chic and comfortable and cosy. The waiting staff have been well trained and are very charming. The food was so delicious-...lamb with almond cream, aubergine and a carrot tenderly toasted to bring out its earthy and sweet nature. It made my palate sing with joy. Partner’s duck was also matched well with delicious onion purée. The green beans with pangratta and lemon were the perfect accompaniment. 10 out of 10More

Our waiter Max was excellent, knowledgable and fun about both the food and wine. The food was also very good. My only gripe was the fact that the staff appeared to be doing a deep clean of the kitchen infront of the customers which I...felt was a little off. Otherwise tip topMore

Nice surroundings, friendly and knowledgeable service. I had venison carpaccio followed by duck but the highlight for me was the side dish of green beans with lemon

This is the top restaurant in Napier. We visited with a family group and had a delightful time. the service was wonderful, friendly, but astute, and attentive wine list is extensive, great to see some lovely local wines. The food was sublime, from the home...made sour dough with caramelised butter to the choux pastry and raspberry dessert nothing could be faulted. We recommend this restaurant to all our bnb guests, for the reason it is the very best The Bay has to offer.More

This place did not disappoint. Our server was lovely and knew what he was talking about. His suggestions were perfect.... Great food but a little expensive for the portion size. The Lamb dish was the best.

This really was a great meal, the best we have had so far in NZ. We ordered bread, including GF and manchego balls, folowed by beef and lamb. Service was excellent, nice interior and no rush, as ever in NZ. thank you, we won't be...able to come back but we highly recommend this restaurant to others visiting Napier.More

I’ve dined at CFS once a year for the last three years always enjoying the food and receiving hospitable service giving it a score of 5/5. Prior to this dining I would have said top 5 restaurant in Hawkes Bay. Sadly the Slow Cooked Sunday...Roast was a letdown. Firstly the service wasn’t at the level of prior occasions. The staff at our table seemed young and inexperienced. It took about 20mins to receive a drink. The same to get our order placed. When drinks (both alcoholic and non ) ran out no one was paying our table attention to ask if we would like more. Instead, our waitperson was having a conversation with the next table (of 3 people) for about 10minutes. Even once that had ended we still were not seen to. We only managed a second round when we asked another waitperson who delivered the mains if we could have more drinks and more water. Secondly the food - best described as food any average home cook would do on the weekend. The slow cooked spiced lamb was overdone and had no flavour at all. The vegetables were just warm and also over, particularly the potato’s. It’s a shame because I’ve had Lamb here before and it was spectacular falling apart, full of fat, juices, sauce just a joyous meal which sadly this wasn’t. The only positive was the portion size which was generous, but who cares when the food is bordering on bland. Yes, feedback was provided at the time. This was a long weekend so maybe the usual team weren’t on deck.More

Lovely food. Good service. Overall a pleasant evening. Some little points would be please water your plants and maybe a dimmer lighting for evening or slightly more dimmer to set mood.

Hi Pam, We don’t have a children’s menu. If you decide to come in, just check with the waiter what menu options would be most suitable. Kind Regards
