I had been advised to this was a good place to eat. The menu was excellent but not as good as the Prawn & pesto Fettuccini. What made the meal was the unobtrusive but attentive table service provided by young Shakur and Briar. An all...round top eating experience!More

Chef Marco created a truly Italian atmosphere. We found friendly people and seriously good food! The best Italian pizza in NZ and outstanding homemade Tiramisu. Thank you!

My partner and I moved to Hamilton from Sydney four years ago and this is our favourite restaurant here. It's authentic Italian food (looking at you people who don't know how cabonara is meant to be served - it's not supposed to have a cream...sauce!) and they make their own deliciously silky pasta. When we have overseas visitors, this is the restaurant we take them to because it's unpretentious, honest, generous, and the food is just plain yummy. If you haven't been, you're missing out.More

Just had an overpriced underwhelming experience at Caffe Centrale. The carbonara sauce was scrambled - patently obvious just by looking at it - and the dish so dry it was inedible. At $26 totally overpriced. The gnocchi all’s bolognese claimed to have a ragu sauce...but was basically mince and tinned tomatoes and at $28 was outrageously overpriced. Really disappointing after all the good reviews on here. To add insult to injury when we expressed our disappointment the chef made some ridiculous justifications - they don’t use cream in their carbonara sauce so maybe the egg yolks weren’t big enough. They were scrambled mate! And bolognese sauce is made with meat and tomatoes and no one else had complained about it. At $28 I was expecting a nice rich ragu with a bit of red wine in there - hell I make a mean ragu myself - but this was just mince and tinned tomatoes. Just because people don’t complain doesn’t mean your food is good. People will vote with their feet and won’t come back. Yeah you might have an Italian cooking in the kitchen - doesn’t mean he can cook. If you want to try real authentic Italian food without having to go to Italy ( and I have eaten in Italy many times) don’t come here!More

I really don't like doing this, but sorry I can't accept this sort of complaint. To me it sounds very disrespectful for all our customers, for the staff and all the work that exists behind that $26. I didn't say that nobody complains so we...More

We tried this based on the reviews and were not disappointed. The service was excellent and we enjoyed the atmosphere inside. The mussels were an excellent starter and the mains were very good. Reasonably priced. The limited menu was the only drawback and as a...result the. Italian one door up has the edge in my view.More

A little underwhelmed, I was expecting great things after a few rave reviews from friends. Atmosphere is comfortable, but the 80’s style look is a bit dated. It felt a little sterile and quite, we joked a guitarist sitting in the corner knocking out Dean...Martin covers on spanish guitar would be perfect. If only. Our food was pretty good, but not what I would call particularly “traditional” Italian. More like Kiwi-friendly traditional. The Chianti was excellent. I chose the risotto on purpose to test the chef. It was tasty but slightly over al dente and nearing porridge. I polished off the plate, but I have defiantly had better. The wife’s salmon was a little dry, but tasty again. The aoli was to die for, especially with the super-chinky fries. The deserts were massive, with three scoops of gelato on our child’s plate who was never going to get through that. I had the Tiramisu which was good. Overall the food was unoffensive, lacking a bit of wow, but plenty of taste. Perhaps we struck the chef on an off night as everything was slightly overcooked, but Im being quite picky. We would go again, the service was very good and fast service.More
