We had walked past the night before and decided this looked a good option. So we turned up on Saturday evening and were lucky to get a table. The food took a long time to arrive, but was tasty when it did, especially the roast cauliflower special. Plates are made for sharing, portions not too big. Good service from the helpful waiter and good wine tips.

Good venue harbourside in Gisborne, limited but well presented menu for lunch with reasonable wine list. Entrée of a "sharing plate" bruschetta with tomato, cheese and peppers was tasty but why do chefs insist on serving 3 items in a sharing plate for 2 people? My wife chose crispy prosciutto with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, served on toast whilst I had the crumbed, pan-fried tarakihi and chips with salad. Both well presented and tasty. A local G&T for madam, a Fromm pint noir for me both went well. Good value with friendly and efficient service.

15$ wine tasting offers 3 wines in 50ml portions so good to get a taste but definitely not like being at a winery ... that said was ok . Would have preferred smaller portions aka a winery .BUT
lunch beckoned and had the chicken Japanese salad and Brushetta with mushroom pate and greens and feta.
Loved the food
Staff friendly
Wine tasting -think I would stay with vineyard tasting in the future

Went here early (430pm) to do both local wine tasting & have dinner on the waterfront. We had hoped to sample local chardonnay wines however they only had a total of 3 chardonnay options on the tasting menu, with only 2 local. We inquired if we could do both wine tasting & dinner, and were told she would have to ask, and also, dinner did not begin until 5pm. We asked again at 5pm (while seated at a table wine tasting), if we could look at dinner menu - we were asked if we had a reservation.. well, no, we did not, but we were already seated doing wine tasting, and there was still plenty of space (indoor & outdoor). Another staff member came to deliver our bruschetta (which was delicious), and we again asked her if we could look at the dinner menu. She scoffed and rolled her eyes at us!!! We should have left at this point, but we were so hungry we really just wanted to stay where we were already seated, drinking wine and enjoying bruschetta. We did eventually get a dinner menu, and ordered the Tarakihi baked fish dinner and polenta chips. The food was OK. We were expecting more based on other positive reviews and the pricing. The whole time we were there, the place was more than half empty - we do not know why they had such an issue with accommodating us to enjoy dinner at their establishment. Needless to say, we do not recommend and will not be back.

We ate at this restaurant tonight and all the reviews are true the food is brilliant. My only regret is that the portions are so large we couldn’t try anything else. As stated in other review the endame beans are delicious the Brussels sprouts amazing the chips plentiful crispy and the aoli is great. The bruschetta were also Devine but huge amounts. We will definitely be back next time we are in gisborne

We had a wonderful lunch here. We were very late - the staff did not get crankey and showed us to a great table. The food was superb- fish was extremely fresh and well prepared. To have the wine interest with the restaurant was an asset and we were able to sample a couple of possibilities before chosing excellent wines for lunch. The Bondblock Gewurtz and the Chenin Blanc on offer were great! To be able to purchase Gisborne wines to take away is also something special.
The service was prompt and polite- obviously a well run establishment worthy of your lunch stop! Well done Team Crawford!

We tried all of the entrees... they were scrumptious... couldn't chose a favourite
Mains were fish; chicken; salmon; beetroot and halloumi stack; portobello mushrooms and ceviche snapper. All were again scrumptious. The ceviche snapper was DEVINE however we questioned having 3 pieces of large pieces of garlic bread with it as it didn't really make sense serving light ceviche with heavy garlic bread (drop the bread); the chicken was beautifully cooked very tasty; the fish cooked to perfection; the beetroot meal was good mix of beetroot and fried halloumi; smoked salmon dish again lovely. We had 2 nice Pinot Gris Ashwood and Matawhero to accompany our meals. All in all a lovely meal. Price wise reasonably expensive however worth the $s

Had dinner and a lunch there. The food was good and well-presented. As is often the case it is the staff that make the difference. Very welcoming, friendly, and obliging. I asked if I could have honey with my coffee, expecting that would be unlikely, but it was not a problem. We were a mixed mob and wanted to pay individually or in pairs and again that was not a problem even though it was a laborious process. Those places that stipulate say one bill per table make it all about them and not about the customers. Little things can make the difference. Thanks. Lovely airy space with a good outdoor area close to the inner harbour. Perfect for hot summer days and evenings.

Great service,unobtrusive,friendly.
Beautifully cooked dishes.Pork Belly was melt in the mouth, liked accompanying Parsnip Mash.Sides of Cauliflower with garlic,a Beetroot,Kumara,Carrot Salad(grated and Roasted, with kale)and generous serve of Fries, that retained their heat. Others members of the table had Dumplings, and Crumbed Chicken, which were divine.
Sweets were sampled too.Creme Brulee, with the crack factor plus, and Chocolate Brownie, with nuts.
Recommend for an experience,if a family member is visiting,or out of town visitors.
Follow up with messages left on machine, Tuesday to Saturday dining.

Crawford Rd Kitchen, great service.
Nice cocktails to start.
Our table opted for Pulled Duck Leg,
Pistacho and Thyme Stuffed Chicken Thigh,
Baked Fish(Terakihi)with summer veges, Quinoa and Capers,
Panko Crumbed Fish(Gurnard)with Sriracha
Tartare as mains. We shared 3 sides.Garlic and
Herb Mushrooms, shaved Parmesan. Thick cut fries, aioli. Those mushrooms were divine.
We picked two desserts to share. Creme Brulee,
Chocolate Walnut Cake with Caramel and Meringue. A great way to finish off a special family meal on a special day.

A bit disappointing. Pastry on the beef cheek empanadas was overworked and not entirely pleasant. Beef itself was OK not as tender as it should have been. I had a nice red half a glass "on the house" as it was the end of the last bottle. Nice gesture but...when we looked at the bill later was charged for a full glass. Otherwise OK without being spectacular.

My husband and I were in shock that the only wine tasting place in Gisborne on a Monday and Tuesday was at Crawford Road Kitchen which was so small and cramped. We were looking at having a meal and wine tasting. However, we were given a cold shoulder by 2 staff and one of which was Amy, apparently the owner. In this current covid19 climate, we are supporting NZ since we can't go overseas. For wine tasting we travelled from Martinborough, Masterton, Napier and what a big disappointment when we got to Gisborne. I hope that they can have a much better facility for wine tasting and not in the size of a cafe which was mistakenly called a restaurant with exorbitant prices but nothing to deliver. I don't recommend Crawford Road Kitchen for food and wine tasting at all.

We were at the restaurant last night for dinner. The restaurant is in the harbour with great views although we couldn’t get with one. The service was very good. Especially when I said that I was gluten free. The waitress spoke to the chef and came back with a menu stating which dishes that were GF and the ones that they could adapt. I chose an amazing fish dish which came with a salad which was dressed. My partner also had a different fish dish which he choose a salad to accompany and we shared a portion of chips. We finished this with a desert of tiramisu. We both had a glass of wine. The bill came to 163 dollars. We throughly enjoyed our experience.

I cant fault the meal, ambience and staff. From the waitress giving informed wine selection advice and the food, it was very very good. The sharing plates are nicely proportioned and very flavoursome. I would highly recommend this restaurant
