Absolutely love this place! Have been multiple times, it’s the only place in NZ where you can get decent, authentic Italian pizza cooked in a wood fired pizza oven. Prices are very reasonable for pizza size and quality of ingredients. Waiter was very friendly and opened the restaurants for us on a Monday even though they were supposed to be closed. Outstanding!

We visited for dinner after walking by randomly - the checkered tablecloths and smell of garlic and dough tempted us inside! What we got was one of the best meals we’d had in ages. This place is a true local gem. Between us, we had a seafood pasta and a pizza and both were divine - fresh and flavourful. The staff were friendly and gave it a relaxed atmosphere. I think we will be back again!

Mamma Rosa is a hidden gem that we love to dine at with our son when we can get together. The pasta is generous in size and full of flavour. The garlic pizza bread is delicious and the wine 🍷 list is perfect for Italian food.
This is our favourite local.

This place is very popular with locals. So if you are a Kiwi I think you may really like it.
For anyone from Italy or Southern Europe, please note that this is not the food you would expect from an Italian restaurant. When you travel, you understand that every culture has its own version of food. This approach to Italian cuisine would be offensive to your grandmother, but they had to adapt the way of cooking to suit the country and the way we eat here. The locals like it, but the people back home will be saddened by it.

Mamma Rosa is a wonderful Italian family restaurant and is always busy - so definitely book a table.
Our group of six (plus dog) sat outside and enjoyed the food and service. There is a large variety of traditional meals to choose from including pizza, pasta and vegetarian. Our group had seafood risotto (fantastic with large mussels, prawns and scallops), spaghetti bolognese, garlic prawns, fish of the day and veal parmigiana. All meals were large and everyone enjoyed theirs. We also shared desserts of tiramisu and brandy snaps. Tiramisu was the best I've had in a restaurant (only outdone by an Italian neighbour we once had).
There is a good variety of wines and service was friendly. Will definitely return.

Been a while since we had a meal here. Very busy (Valentines day) but we managed to get a table after a short wait. Delighted to say the quality of the food and the standards of service are as good as ever. The Pasta was superb and the Pizza was simply delicious. Staff are very friendly and professional. Prices are very reasonable. It’s a small restaurant with a layout that maximises the number of tables but never feels cramped. Absolutely recommend this delightful restaurant.

Did not book so we’re fortunate to get a table. Chose to sit outside. Obviously very popular. Lovely atmosphere. Snug seating. Steak and risotto ordered. Food hot, tasty and well presented. Relaxed evening.

We have eaten here for years. Nothing changes, it is totally consistent, but that is part of the charm. The pizzas are superb, but you really need to delve into the in-house meals. In more than 30 years I have never had a meal that was below par. we shared scallops and calamari entrees to start on our last visit and they were perfect.
