I dropped into Ponsonby Central to grab a bite to eat and decided to try a sandwich at the Dairy Melt Bar. For starters, I was impressed that every sandwich on the menu incl. a different variety of cheese and all sandwiches were warmed in...a panini maker. I watched as my sandwich was particularly prepared from the cutting of bread slices from a fresh loaf to adding the ingredients into my sandwich in the panini maker at different times so as to not overcook each of the ingredients. I think that the Melt Bar is a great place to have a sandwich combination with assorted fresh cheeses and other ingredients. I liked sitting out in the night's fresh air & will be back to try something else from the menu.More

I’ve passed by the Dairy on dozens of occasions whilst visiting the popular hotspots of Ponsonby Central and had never dared to try. We had a late lunch yesterday and WOW, it was well worth it. My dining companion and I shared the ‘bad boys’...- two smaller sandwiches with superb fillings (fried Mac and cheese and fried chicken) and an open faced meatball sandwich which was smothered in a heavenly marinara. Both were absolutely excellent, and the staff were also lovely. It’s well worth a trip in an already saturated dining area.More

What better breakfast is there than a grilled cheese sandwich with corned beef, maasdam, gherkins and piccalilli on sourdough? The answer is the Dairy Knuckle Sandwich, but accompanied by a bowl of Raclette on Hot Potato wedges (cheese n chips), an espresso and large milkshake...(with what appears to be hair on it!!!) Sure my heart doctor would frown but what does he know? There choice of sandwiches here is extensive and all are very tasty, however if you choose the knuckle sandwich first then ti will spoil the rest for you! Just a warning PS Not actually hair, its candy floss and adds to the overload of goodness!More

A highlight of my quick time in auckland for sure. Not only is the food amazing, but Nick offered easy and great conversation, including draught samples and useful advice for my trip. Very glad I stopped in, I felt very welcome and had an amazing...time, sandwich and beer. Cheers!More

I am giving here a 4.5 as have never tried thier ice cream sandwich , (  now that's real self control for you....so tempting it sounds in other reviews!!) but no doubt but the look and sound of it this rating will change to a...5 when i do eventually try it. Anyway the big reason we came here was for the cheese melts ( i love love cheese ) and more so these creations they conjure up here.  The service is nice and friendly , and we ordered the Classic Monsieur melt......free range ham off the bone, gruyere cheese, dijon mustard with bechamel.  My other half ordered the Napoleon melt....slow braised free range pulled pork, beetroot relish, coleslaw, old edam , gherkins and chipotle aioli.  And we also had some hand cut fries. The fries came out first and were just as i like them , nice and chunky, cooked just right and just enough salt on. Then came our melts.  Delicious as i always say when is worthy of it.  And for me even more so as the cheese was melted just enough to be dripping out a bit.  Perfect.  If it was not dripping out a bit it just would not have been the same for me. The ham and all the other ingredients were put together just right . It did not matter that maybe it fell apart a little ....delicious!! As for the Napoleon i was told it was equally as good though a bit much for her. I did sample some of the pork and it was tasty. All in all i would reccomend to anyone and we'll definetly have to try the ice cream sandwich next time.More

After getting kicked out for staying to long at another restaurant, a group of us had to walk around to find another place for dessert. I am so glad we found this place. we sat outside under a heater which was really warm during a...cold winter night. Kim was so friendly and seemed so excited for us to be there. I had the salted caramel mousse, and it was by far the best mousse I had ever eaten. Thank you so much for this delicious treat!More

Went to The Dairy, 'cause I'd heard they have really nice Poutine there. And yes... that cheesy meat sauce on top of those crispy potatoes.. I thought the cheese is going to be the best experience, but those potatoes.. Best I've ever had. altogether this...meal was spot on. Service was polite and friendly, too ;)More

The service was the best thing about the Dairy. Very attentive staff who remembered our drink orders and recognised us when we returned the next day. Which, of course, made us feel special. The food didn't take long to be presented but to be honest,...I doubt we would have noticed because our glasses were always full and at Ponsonby Central there is always something to look at. We really enjoyed out two nights out here.More
