Our team of trained Japanese chefs welcome you. Irrashaimase. We are located next to Kingsland Station, on the Western Line, just 4 stops from the Britomart Downtown Station. A local gem for me and so happy we found it! It's only quite a small establishment so I would recommend booking as numerous times we have called and it was fully booked.
Service was on point from the moment we walked through the door, very friendly staff!
Food was amazing and is great value for money.
Will recommend this place to any sushi lovers and will come back again and again!

What a great find! Little amazing restaurant tucked away but delivers fantastic food. We’ve eaten a lot of Japanese but Taiko delivers every time we come here. Would happily rate it as best little Japanese restaurant in Auckland!

Japanese all the way. Taiko Ponsonby is a delight. From reception to food the whole experience was sublime. Beautifully presented food with a short wait time. The staff were lovely and helpful with suggestions. Taiko is a special find for us and we are so grateful that they are so close. Would totally recommend,

We asked for sharing meals staggered as was the style of this restaurant. We ordered tempura vege, karaage chicken, and carpaccio, and green salad. there were long pauses between some of these dishes. The chicken was described as the best chicken ever. The salad was fresh and crisp. I did ask what the seasonal vegetables were, the waitress didn't know so went away and returned with an answer. This turned out to be not what we were served, however the dish was very tasty. The carpaccio, I wouldn't recommend. As lovers of fine raw fish dishes, this was not to our expectations. During our meal, while waiting to order our final dish, we realised our waitress hadnt taken our drinks order. We caught the attention of another waitress and ordered our drinks and final dish, teriyaki beef. The final dish was very nice. Overall this restaurant was good, with some simple but important details taken care of, this restaurant would be 5 star.

Absolutely divine service and food. I had a recent birthday here and the sushi, sashimi, tempura, chicken and tofu were all delicious. The service was absolutely outstanding and this restaurant is definitely open!

We had a fabulous meal before pink, super handy location easy for all to find and the only negative was it was a bit hot due to the muggy conditions

Very authentic Japanese restaurant. Great bento boxes. Loved the teriyaki salmon and karage chicken. This restaurant is definitely open.

Very bad customer service. Very very long wait for food, over 40 minutes. Very dissatisfied with he restaurant. Chopsticks looks funky as they were two sided.

Popped in for a quiet lunch after the Glasshouse market. Shared a 2-course lunch and it was well above expectations. the service was lovely and the food simply excellent.
Highly recommend.

We stopped here while looking for somewhere for a quick lunch between meetings in Auckland. We said we only had 30min for lunch and if that was ok, they were sooo fast with the service, very attentive to us and friendly, and the food was so so good!!! First choice for lunch if I'm ever in the area again for sure.

Came here for lunch for my son's 20th birthday. We visited Japan 2 years ago and this restaurant reminded us of they great meals we had there. The food is authentic, service fast and friendly in a authentic Japanese setting. The food was delicious and very good value at $120 for 5 of us including drinks. Plenty of parking especially if you park on Sandringham Road and walk over the railway bridge. This will be our new go to Japanese!

Tucked away in Kingsland this a gem of a restaurant. The food is faultless - fresh and creative. The staff make you feel like family, so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.
