This restaurant centrally located is a real gem. It was incredibly busy with locals as well as tourists and this was a good sign. It looks small at the entrance but it goes back and there are plenty of tables yet on a Wednesday we had one of the last ones. The server was friendly, water appears without asking (no charge). Wine and beer was fairly priced ($8 for a local beer and $9 for a glass of wine. My wife had fish and chips which was excellent and more than enough. I had the burger and it was probably the best burger I've ever had. The meat was 'proper', real beef and served at a perfect temperature. The portion size with all the fixings and French fries meant that even though I'm a big guy, it was a struggle to finish. But it was so good I didn't want to waste any. Looking around everyone seemed to have excellent dishes and therefore this place comes highly recommended. Cost for dinner including wine/beer was $85.

Firstly, from the moment we arrived at Tony’s the service was flawless. Genuinely enthusiastic and caring staff set us up for a truly memorable meal. Nothing was too much trouble and the attentiveness of the several wait staff we interacted with was outstanding. The best restaurant service I’ve received in Auckland for a very long time. Secondly, the environment is perfect. Exactly what it says on the tin. This is an unapologetic old school steakhouse and the menu perfectly represents this. The seating is comfortable, the music is just right (in terms of both selection and volume) and we felt right at home. Lastly, the food is excellent. Four different steak orders all came out at the same time and all cooked exactly as requested. Hot, delicious, and honestly much better value than a lot of other restaurants around town. Starters and desserts were also great – and really, who doesn’t love a brandy snap! Tony’s is an Auckland treasure and I hope it never changes.

We came here simply because they are under threat of closure. This place is older than me and the menu is much the same as the old menus used for table decorations, just with an extra 0 on the price. We ordered prawn cocktails and steaks and were very happy with our choices. The steaks were perfectly cooked to our liking, seriously tender and came with a side of beans that I wish I could get the same at home. Perfectly crisp but still cooked. I would have liked to try the chunky fries the rest of our party decided on but I was far too busy savouring my own dish of filet Mignon. Our server looked like it was her after school job but she was very knowledgeable and very polite so she’s obviously experienced. She suggested Master 10 might prefer the smaller serve of the spaghetti Bolognese and this was very wise as it was ample even for a child with a bottomless pit for a tummy. She even told us after she confirmed that we’d finished our entrees that she’d let the kitchen know so they could start our steaks. We were dining with a boutique beef farmer (he eats his own homekill animals almost exclusively) and his verdict was the best steak he has ever had. I hope others go back to Tony’s and they can stay open because they are worth a visit.

Went here for my birthday in January. It's taken me 9 months to write this, as I was incredibly angry at their response. To cut a long story short, undercooked food, with little to remediate this. I was offered a refry, which I declined - I was then offered a complete recook, and to take this away with me, so I could eat this in my hotel - again, not an option. We dined on a monday, so it shouldn't have been that much of an issue to get this sorted. You would think if you paid $80 for a steak, they could cook it right, first time... especially being an iconic steak house? My family's food was luke warm - my kids were hungry, so they didn't want to complain. My wife's food wasn't much better. I would never come back here, ever again. Poor food, and not much better service.

This tied for first place out of all the restaurants we tried during two weeks in New Zealand. The other was Soul in the Viaduct. Tony’s has great atmosphere and superb food. Our steaks were perfectly done and the staff were friendly and efficient. The place has a history that goes back to 1963 and you can see why when you go for dinner. Intimate wood-paneled booths, a menu that focuses on seafood and great steak and good service. It was a perfect final meal in this lovely country.

We ate here recently early Monday evening. Booked via their website and glad we did as the restaurant filled up pretty fast. Warm welcome, great service, friendly and helpful Seated in a booth near the entrance. Great for people watching ! Our two course dinner was as expected, it was delicious, nicely presented and the steaks cooked to perfection Couple of gins and a glass or two of wine made the evening really enjoyable and we thought good value for money as well. Would recommend.

A dissappointing meal Blue chees sauce was stone cold which is not what I wanted at all. I have eaten a lot of steaks with blues cheese sauce in restaurants all around the world, including this restaurant in the paast and the blue cheese sauce is always warm not cold. The whole meal was barely luke warm and over alll quite dissappointing. Nowhere near as good as I remember.

Think 1980s Cobb & Co decor and that pretty much sums up Tonys. I did a bit of research on a great steak house to go to whole in Auckland. We got it down to a couple but decided on Tonys and we had had a very busy few days and it was close to the hotel. Steak was cooked perfectly but still was melt in your mouth that I was expecting. All steaks are served with greasy chips and oily salad (there was a vege option but it was stir fried Brocolini and Carrots). When you are paying that much for a meal I would expect your sides to be just as great as the steak. Wait staff all seemed a bit "flighty". We had only just put our cutlery down from our entrees and our main arrived. Steak was good but fine dining Tonys is not and needs to come into the 21st century. Just because it's an iconic Auckland restaurant is not a reason to dine here.

I visited last Nov and was really happy that I bought my family this time and was pretty disappointed with quality of food. Ordered steak well done served pink, mushroom sauce just tasted off. Camembert wheel was horrible. Gave feedback to lady at counter after we paid and she seemed offended we even gave feedback. Pretty sad with this visit as I really enjoyed it the last time. Won’t return unfortunately.

What a great lunch menu. Loads of choice, right on with the pricing, staff friendly and attentive. And then there's the food - wow. I had the eye fillet with mushroom sauce. It was cooked exactly as I asked - which was rare medium rare and the chef nailed it. My mum had the lamb shanks and the meat was falling off the bone. Decent sized at a great price. You could see why they were so busy and pleased to see after covid AND the roadworks blocking the road off for so long. This isn't my first visit and dinner is just as good. Will definitely be back.

Service was great, our waitresses were very friendly and familiar with the menu when we had questions. We did not wait long for our plates to arrive. I ordered the Lamb shanks and it was a good thing I didn't eat lunch because the shanks were huge and delicious. It has been years since last visit, decor is still the same but the food did not disappoint :)

The food is good, but not excellent. All a big casual and no flair. The prawn cocktail had heaps of huge prawns, sadly with tails on. A huge leaf of fancy lettuce and a few shreds of slaw, with only a tiny fork provided meant it was very much a fingers in meal! The pepper steak was well cooked and tasty but with chips as the only option, and huge lumps of roasted cauliflower, it lacked care being plated up. Staff were cheerful though a little rushed and not organised. Mains came out without clearing starters away; drinks took a long time. On the whole, ok, but if I were having a ‘special’ night out I’d choose Jervois any day.

Great food and atmosphere. I only wished the main course could have come not too long after entree. As we finished the entree (seafood chowder was wonderful), we had to wait quite long (around 40m) for the steak and by the time we got our steaks, we were a bit full and couldn’t enjoy the steak to the fullest.

Great food, best T bone steak I have ever eaten. Fantastic mushroom sauce. Big portions for hungry people, my daughter struggled to finish her burger which she said tasted sensational. My wife loved her pasta dish and said it had excellent flavours. Thank you Tony's it is so good to go out and have a hearty tasty meal that meets all your expectations.

A great restaurant in the CBD. The building has dark wood paneling and the glass topped tables have newspaper articles and adverts from the 50's and 60's under them. Fascinating reading in lulls in the conversation. The food was great. I had a 300 gram aged steak burger in a crisp bun with a generous helping of fries. (McDonald's hasn't a clue how to do this properly). By the time the waitress asked about desserts, I was full and had to decline.
