Restaurant was full on a Sunday night when we arrived at 6pm so went for a half hour walk until they called us to tell us a table was free - it remained full with a line until we left at about 9pm. We soon discovered why it was so popular - service is friendly and professional. Food is beautiful, we all loved our meals so much that we wanted to try the desserts too, and were not disappointed.
Buzzing ambiance added to the experience and we look forward to returning.

Visited Prego for the first time for lunch on a recommendation by my daughter-in-law who is a local. Wow, we were not disappointed! From the get-go, the welcoming manager to the floor service which I have to say was one of the best we have had in Auckland. India was our charming hostess, professional without even trying and everything she did was meticulous and perfect. Her hospitality especially her experience ensured that we ordered plenty including a bottle of Chardonay (and a few extra glasses) that left our palate very satisfied. We had chiabata for 4 and bluff oysters which was absolute divine. For mains we had the marinara linguine (x3) olio style with garlic, white wine and chilli (this was the best marinara linguine I have had in Auckland), calamari and a huge garden salad. It was a thoroughly enjoyable lunch and India made us all felt as if we were in her home kitchen cooking up a feast. Her attention to detail particularly to our needs during lunch is commendable. Prego is very fortunate to have India as one of their lunch hostess, as this made the difference to the way we ordered the drinks and food. Will definitely be back in the next few months.

First time at Prego, even I have heard about it for ages. Went there for a Saturday lunch. Ordered the Bruschetta and Burrata to share as appertizers and I order the Italian seafood soup as main with the polenta to share. All food are great but not exceptional except the polenta - probably one of the best polenta I have had.
Service is great even though they are very busy. The restaurant is still almost full when we leave at around 2:30.
Would be keen to go back and try their pizza.

My readers will know that I dont usually do a review that is critical of the restaurant as I give the benefit of the doubt to a possible one off instance. And I know how hard COVID has been on the industry. However when it is such an established eatery with a history of great hospitality it was a shock when things went awry especially in the service department.
It started from the moment we entered the restaurant having queued early to be at the front (remember no bookings here). So we went to our fav table but that initially seemed to be an issue for the matre de for some reason - something about social distancing? But then conceded it was ok to sit there. The courtyard filled up quickly and I didnt notice any problems with any other tables.
Then our waiter appeared and served us throughout lunch. We weren't sure whether he was channelling Bazil Fawlty or not but he did a pretty good job doing so. We certainly felt like he was doing us a favour in serving us to get through to a $500 bill. So when asked for a tip I offered $0.02 cents. When asked by the receptionist if that was a mistake I replied that I thought it was generous.
The food - was however great and a reasonably (these days anyway) priced wine list. But we go for the experience don't we folks? Not just the cuisine - And we were going to get a $200 gift voucher as a birthday present but that idea went by the wayside sadly.

My wife and I recently had dinner on Halloween of all nights :) there were certainly no tricks at this place...only treats:
From the friendly greeting, to the efficient table turnover whilst waiting for our table - then came the main event.
The food was that of an artist’s handiwork; the painted plates canvassed our experience to enjoy the flavours so elegantly coupled, which left us astounded at the talent of their culinary skills - true masterpiece.
Just when we thought it couldn’t get better, in walks Jono - a genuine hospitality professional. Someone who knows the tools of the trade, and through his service, built us an experience that stood the test of our time that night. So much so that we find it hard to compare any other restaurant in Auckland.
Well done team! Keep up the good work.

Waiting at the bar and soaking in the atmosphere, front of house staff were incredible, barman was attentive and wait staff was knowledgeable and helpful.
Food was awesome, Coeliac issues with our ordering were handled professionally and the wine recommended was fantastic. I just love this place...atmosphere, fun and great food. Hasn't changed over the years.

The Prego team were fantastic. We had a large lunch group booking and they really looked after us from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was absolutely delicious and served together without a long wait. A great place for a large group lunch booking. Thanks to the team for looking after us!

Just as well we had booked a table for the five of us, as the place was absolutely chocka! We had quite a long wait for service, which was to be expected with the crowd present, but when the food arrived, it was worth waiting for. One of the best risottos I have ever tasted; everyone's portions were generous and beautifully presented. Well done, Prego!

The staff (Ellie was fabulous) are always terrific and know their stuff, and the food is always superb. So much variety you could come here every day for a week and have something different to eat. The eye fillets were cooked perfectly, and the vegies were delicious.

We had a family dinner (including 2 very young grandchildren) last Friday night. I don't normally bother posting reviews but Prego was absolutely outstanding in every respect. We focused largely on some of their classic dishes, like the fish soup, and the food was brilliant. As good as it gets in Auckland. Very lively atmosphere, fantastic attitude to kids and service of the very highest standard. This restaurant deserves its reputation as one of Auckland's absolute gems.

Called before going as I’m Gluten Intolerant and they were a 30 min walk away in the rain.
Although they didn’t take bookings they confirmed we would get to eat and upon arrival we were immediately welcomed and quickly seated
Our waitress was friendly, patient and knowledgeable around what was GF on the menu including the specials board
All the staff were friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble. There was a great ambiance in the restaurant which had a mixture of couples, families and birthday groups, very busy for a Tuesday but a great vibe to be in
The food was yummy and the Pizza beat me so they boxed up the rest to go along with my husband’s ciabatta
Thanks everyone you gave us a great experience with wonderful food 🤩

Great food and service. Even on a Thursday evening it was packed with a 45-60 minute wait time. We waited at the bar, had a nice drink and talked with the bartender. Saw great interaction with the customers and all the staff.
We ordered Burrata, Pizza, and Bruschetta and all were great. The pizza was thin and cooked perfectly. The sauce was tasty and a little spicy unlike many others. Good amount of toppings and cheese.
The Burrata was tasty and just right and the Bruschetta was some of the best we have had.
Well worth the wait.

We all really enjoyed our meals. Husband felt they could maybe be a little bigger in size but very tasty. Very good service and friendly staff. Food and drinks came out quickly. Seemed to be a very popular restaurant as people were pouring in and either turned away or told an hours wait. This was before 6.30pm. We were so happy we decided to dine early. Had a good vegan menu so something for everyone in our family. Would highly recommend and definitely return on another visit to Auckland.

One of the best lunches I have ever had. Italian food at its best with a kiwi twist. A special mention to India, who made our lunch extra ordinary. You all should be very proud and we look forward to working our way through you menu with many more exceptional dining experiences.

My Dad and I arrived right on the dot at 12pm for their opening time and there were already people waiting to get in ,they don’t take reservations so it’s always a safe bet to get there early.
We were seated promptly and greeted by our wonderful server , she was personable and efficient.
I had the arancini and my Dad had Calamari which they adapted to be GF . They are so open to making anything they can GF.
Both were delicious, the only criticism I would have is the Arancini could have been a bit hotter but it was delicious , packed full of pine nuts.
My dad and I both had the fish special , Blue cod , with an orange hollandaise sauce.
It was absolutely delicious. We accompanied it with a beet, kale and baby carrot and goats cheese side.
Food and service were excellent.
