We booked a table for a farewell dinner with family from overseas. It wasn't too busy at the time. They have a range of Chinese food and also offer some yum cha items during dinner. We grabbed a few dishes to share. Most of the...items were quite nice like the prawn balls but I was excited for the taro sago. The taro sago was custard containing sago and taro and then baked. I quite liked it. The food was nice but it was pricier. There is free parking on the streets after 1800 in some areas but it does get full quite fast.More

My family has been to many Chinese restaurants and this one is by far the worst - utterly disappointing! The tim sum here is way below average - the food is not fresh, bland and tasteless, either too dry (dehydrated) or too oily, overcooked or...undercooked. 👎😪 The atmosphere was pretty nice but what was the point when the food (taste, quality/ freshness) could not do any justice - yet overpriced! We DID NOT enjoy even a single dish we ordered. The lady who took the order was too pushy. Definitely not worth the price and would not recommend to anyone - not even to someone with the minimal expectation for food! We would not visit the restaurant again even if the food is free - daunted by the taste and quality of the food! This is not the kind of Cantonese Tim Sum that you would expect from an established Chinese restaurant at CBD area!😮‍💨More

The food at this place is excellent, freshly prepared and served at your cloth covered table. The entree portions can easily feed two people unless your the type that likes to overeat. Check out the live seafood in the tanks, gigantic lobsters. Dishes do not...come with rice so if you want some you have to order it.More

Unfortunately Grand Harbor is one of those Chinese restaurants that have distorted and made a joke of proper Chicken food. Don’t expect to eat anything genuine here! Tasteless but plentiful- and if you are really famished (and would eat anything!) it’s maybe good value for...money. It is quite costly and certainly not worth it if you are a fan of Chinese food. Avoid this place!More

Very good Yum Cha restaurant, authentic, freshly cooked dumplings to order, excellent service. We warmly recommend Grand Harbour for anyone craving Chinese food in the Wynyard Quarter of Auckland.

We went for a bite with the kids. Restaurant was pretty empty. Menu was not yum char but had a few offerings for dumplings. We had 3 fizzy drinks, 2 beers, seaweed salad, Singapore noodles, roast pork, 3 plates dumplings and salt and pepper squid....It was $320 !!!!!!! The dumplings weren’t priced and the noodles $50z the quality of the food was no better than our local Chinese take out where that wouldve cost $100 at a push. Total total rip off do not goMore

Having visited Grand Harbourview Chinese Restaurant twice so far. today, we observed: 1. THE FOOD well cooked and not greasy. 2. THE VEGETARIAN much selection and well presented. 3. THE SERVICE excellent with good English 4. THE PRICE in keeping with the market. ADVICE Must...try. Still a struggle to beat Auckland No.1 Chinese Restaurant, Pearl Garden at Newmarket. We chose this restaurant, not far from our hotel, because it seemed to have a pretty good selection of seafood choices on the menu. Once there though, we noticed the staff was very attentive to some patrons and pretty much ignored those not familiar to...them. Eventually we did get service, but our waiter was not very forthcoming with suggestions. He did make accommodations to exclude one item from one of our oders but that was the extent of his help. Also note that if you look at their menu on-line you might expect to see higher prices 15-20% higher once you get to the restaurant. I pointed this out to our waiter and showed him the difference on their website. He said he'd talk to the manager about it, but didn't make any offer to fix it on our bill. The food was just average, the rest of the service was just average. We walked about five blocks from our hotel to get here. I'd judge it to be worth no more than one block.More

This weekend we went to the restaurant. When we were seated we noticed that most of the surrounding tables had soy sauce etc. available in a small dish whereas we didn't. So we asked a female manager if we could have the same treatment. She...said that a "rule" was only the first customers of each table would be served and the rest had to do it by themselves. We looked around the dining area and website but didn't find such a "rule" anywhere. A bit confused why they charge the same service price but people in the first round are treated differently to those in later rounds. We ordered a pot of chrysanthemum tea (of course, it's not free), but a staff wanted to recommend the restaurant's own juice drink and asked us if we wanted a watermelon juice. We already had a pot of tea on our table, so we decided not to have a juice at that moment. We had a question we wanted to ask, she was very close to the table but, hearing that we didn't want a watermelon drink, she immediately turned around and walked away. It was quite clear to us the staff were only focused on promoting their item and not interested in the experience of customers. It's just a small issue but on multiple occasions we noticed there are many hidden "rules" especially in terms of service. A little disappointed that although everyone pays the standard service price, the restaurant divides people into different groups and use their own judgement to choose whether or not you receive a fair service.More

Waitangi Day spur of the moment Yum Char brunch. Arrived 11:30. Seated next to the toilets. Selection was a little sparse. Service was slow for yum char. We were not offered all of the dishes. Felt a little unloved. Unlikely to rush back.

Have visited this large restaurant over the years - always a bit of a scrum but generally good Yumcha (when your can get it brought to your table) . Our visit with a family group of ten adults and children was seated in a distant...corner and matters went downhill from there - at this restaurant we have been told in recent years that customers have to go and get their own Soya and Chilli sauce from a sideboard in the restaurant - one of our party did so on this occasion , which prompted an overly officious and over direct woman 'manager' ( usually a man is in charge and things run more smoothly) to visit the table and castigate us for taking too many saucers of soya sauce . She announced that she was sick of customers taking one saucer of Soya each and that one saucer was quite enough for two people! Our visiting family of Kiwi expats from Singapore, and ourselves as experienced travellers in Asia, were gobsmacked and we were left somewhat 'surprised' by her rudeness and triviality. It was quite difficult to actually get food delivered to our table - perhaps we had broken the Soya rules. No matter we are not in a hurry to go back.More

I suspect MSG was added to the dishes,...i have a dry and sore throat after eating the food. Our first visit and will be our last. Food was average.More

We love yum cha. It's our favourite way to lunch on a weekend - stacks of steamed dumplings and steamed buns with BBQ pork, plus crispy layers of thin pastry with egg custard and ice-cream mochi balls - so good! Compared to other restaurants in...Auckland, Grand Harbour has a wide selection of dishes for yum cha. There's the occasional gluggy dumpling and surly waiter, but the food is pretty tasty overall. We've been to Grand Harbour many times for yum cha over the last few years, and consistently paid around $100 - $120 for our family of 4. Since the pandemic-related lockdown in NZ, we've noticed prices at Grand Harbour continuing to increase. A few months ago, we were shocked to see the bill come in at $150. We hadn't ordered anything different to our usual array of favourites. Yesterday we went back to Grand Harbour for yum cha and were HORRIFIED to see a bill of $180. Again, we hadn't ordered anything different to what we usually order. We understand the hospitality industry has been smashed by the pandemic and we're trying to support restaurants, but at this rate, we can't afford to. We used to be yum cha regulars at Grand Harbour. With prices having nearly doubled, with no discernable change in quality or service, we have no plans to return.More

Its obviously a popular yum char spot because the place was heaving but having a booking seemed irrelevant...just take a number and get in the queue. The food was ok without being memorable compared to other places, but the service was non-existent- you have to...go to a central table to get any soy sauce or chilli sauce...wtf?? They're just keen to churn as many people though as possible. And then being charged $45/head....it was way too much for this experience. We live locally but defo wouldn't go back.More
