We booked in at Di Mare, and it was so good we went twice! Marcia and Habib are gracious, attentive hosts. We started with oysters and bruschetta - both delicious (the bread was some of the best I’ve tasted). The first night - we shared...the seafood platter - amazing shrimp, fish, mussels, etc. it was on a bed of rice with both white and red sauce. Delicious! Marcia and Habib take great care in sourcing their ingredients, and it shows up in the food. I liked it so much, I had it again the second night! My wife had gurnard (a type of fish), which was also delicious! If I find myself in Auckland again, it will be my first choice! They make you feel so at home!More

What a magical little hidden gem!! You walk down a little alley, full of fairy lights and flowers - even the bricks are curved along the path. The restaurant is gorgeous: one really feels like one is in Italy. Blue and white table clothes, and...the staff were wonderfully attentive without being over the top. (Nothing worse than being asked how your meal is when you have a mouthful!!) My daughter (Florence!) and I ate there on the eve of her wedding; food was incredible. My daughter had Garlic Prawns, I had fish of the day - the leftovers of which I would have happily taken home, had I not been Mother of the Bride! We shared a greek salad - superb and I don't know how they cook their rice but it was beyond delicious. Highly, highly recommendMore

I love this restaurant. Good old fashioned yummy food and a lovely Italian red. We try to eat here at least once a fortnight and are welcomed with open arms.

Homely welcoming hospitality. I travel to Parnell regularly and always eat here. Great Italian staples. Very much home away from home.

We booked at this restaurant for a family b dinner. The setting and private room was really nice however the food was not great. There were 14 of us here. 4 people ordered the eye fillet with prawns on top. All 4 steaks were over...cooked and prawns looked like it was straight out a supermarket freezer bag. The medium sirloin that was so charred and overcooked that my nephew couldn’t eat it as it chewy and he couldn’t even get his knife through the surface. I ordered the chicken breast. The chicken too was dry and really hard on the surface and to top it all off, when I complained the waitress who is also the owner hovered over to try cut the chicken herself to check if she could cut through the meat. Certainly no social distance and made me very uncomfortable. They should stick to just doing pasta as ones that we ordered were delicious. We did complain to make them aware of the issues and didn’t ask for compensation although their reaction to the complaint went on deaf ears. I certainly would not recommend this restaurant both for the food and the serviceMore

We odered the eye fillet... Iv had eye fillet more times than I can count I love it... What we received was rump it had fat and grissel and was large in size and flat like a rump piece It was chewy and tasteless My...partner couldn't even eat his and the waitress came over and asked if everything was OK because the chef noticed he wasn't eating his steak My partner explained it was so chewy and he couldn't eat it No resolution was offered what so ever Ontop of that the vegetables were hard The mash tasted really wierd and had a crunchy Ness to it.. Like reheated and not the best All I can say is my prawns were OK And the garlic sauce was yum My partners mushroom sauce was decent However as he ordered the rib eye wrapped in bacon.... There was no way to wrap the bacon as it wasn't a perfectly formed round rib eye.. It was a pub style piece of rump Really unimpressed but we didn't bother kicking up a fuss.. We made sure they knew we was unhappy and told them it wasn't nice but as we don't get date night ofton.. Getting into a confrontation over paying. But we will not be going back again and I will be deffonatly not be reccomending it to anyone... Not even a dog would enjoy that steakMore

We booked an early evening meal for our 40th anniversary last week. New Zealand was still at Covid lockdown level 2 on the day, which meant that the restaurant tables had to be well spaced and only one server was allowed to service the table....We had never dined at Di Mare previously and the street numbers are hard to find on Parnell Road, but after finding a car park nearby we walked into the courtyard where the restaurant is located. The door swung open to welcome us even before we reached the doorstep and the lady who was to be our server took my wife's coat to hang it. We were shown to a corner table in the quite small dining room. The table was nicely set with a gingham cloth over the white tablecloth. A bottle of Perrier (or perhaps something very similar) was on the table, but we asked for and received a bottle of ordinary water, nicely chilled. The menu was quite a bit more extensive than many contemporary restaurants, with five or six appetisers, a range of entrées including quite a few oyster dishes, various fish, pasta and meat mains, and a reasonable wine list. We decided to have the same menu item so that we could order a full bottle of wine rather than by the glass. The lady asked what type of wines we preferred and suggested a lovely sauvignon blanc (interestingly from a cellar located on the same courtyard). We then ordered the "pork fillet medallions". Don't let the description mislead you: these were centimetre or more thick six to nine centimetres long slices of pork cut diagonally across the grain of the fillet, certainly not the little rounds of meat often described as medallions. The bacon provided just the perfect touch of different flavour. Each plate had EIGHT(!) slices resting on a bed of mashed potatoes, with a dish of mushroom sauce and another dish of applesauce on the side. The two sides of vegetables could easily have been one shared between us. The meal was nicely spiced without being excessive. The meals arrived at the table piping hot and retained their heat as we dined (and we did not rush at all). As a true contrast to many other restaurants the background music was unobtrusive and pleasant. We enjoyed the meal immensely and the venue and personal touches by the lady made this an evening that we will remember as superb. Needless to say we had to pass on dessert and took home a "doggie bag" that provided enough food that we had it for our main the next night (no dog was ever going to see THAT meal!). It still tasted lovely re-heated. It was certainly great value at the price for the meal we received. I heartily recommend Di Mare to anyone and everyone (and I have to wonder whether the reviewer phg0703 actually ate at the same place that we did?).More

We spent our last night of vacation in NZ at this cute little gem...and we absolutely loved it. It is a small family run restaurant, with murals on the wall that are reminiscent of Italy, and blue checkered tablecloths of the tables. There is also...a cobbled courtyard for outdoor dining. We made our dinner reservation, in person, during an afternoon of shopping in beautiful Parnell Village. When we returned for dinner, we were enthusiastically greeted, by name, as if we were long-lost friends! The service was personal and friendly throughout the meal. Every course was memorable...Oysters and Calamari appetizers, followed by Pasta Bolognese and Carbonara Pasta with Garlic Bread, and finally Chocolate Lava Cake. The wine was a great compliment to the meal, with lemoncello liqueur at the conclusion. We loved the family recipes and the personal touch. I hope we can come back some day.More

We called here for dinner. The lady who served us was very pleasant. This place obviously has its regulars, which is usually a good sign. My husband had the pork fillet medallions & I had the Ocean Platter Di Mare, both of which we’d have...no hesitation in recommending. The setting is in a lovely courtyard, just off Parnell Road. Take the side road - you won’t be disappointed.More

We found most of the food in the country to be a good value, this was the one restaurant we felt was over priced for the quality and service we received. Service was extremely slow and the restaurant was not even busy. The staff were...friendly and the food tasted good.More

We had dinner there tonight. The owners made us feel like family. Making a wonderful Greek salad large enough for all of us. If you want great lamb, wine and an enjoyable evening this is where you want to go. We had rack of lamb...with the best mint sauce, not jelly, I have ever had. My husband had a huge filet stuffed with oysters that delighted him. The wine selection is extensive and we were seated in a lovely outside courtyard. Although we are just visiting, I expect we will return for another awesome meal before flying home.More
