Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is one of the UPMOST BEST places to eat. The family that owns the place is sweet, the food's well priced and the actual dishes are YUM YUM YUM. To anyone who's thinking: "This place can't be THAT good." Take my advice. Don't knock it till you try it. Period.

I haven't been here for years and was able to come by since I was in the area. They do have a parking area but I ended up just parking on the street. The entrance is where the takeaway area is, under the red cover. I ended up entering through the side door and had to walk to the counter to get seated. The menu is decently sized and has a range of Vietnamese and Chinese style food. I had the raw beef salad as well as the bon bu hue, the spicy beef noodle soup. The salad was really fresh even though it was packed with meat. The dressing was really nice and it had a nice balance of flavour and textures. The bun bo hue had a tasty broth but it wasn't very spicy. I quite liked the spaghetti like noodles and they had cabbage along with beansprouts to add into the soup. The dishes here were quite tasty and had a nice flavour. The portions were also decent and the meals were packed with meat. It is a really nice place for some tasty dishes and unsurprising that it was quite busy.

Me and my friend went there for dinner and my friend got really sick within an hour of eating there. She had the udon noodles and chicken chow mein. We should have taken the sign of dirty spoons more seriously and left then and there but decided to give them a chance based on the great reviews left by others. Probably wont trust trip advisor reviews again either. Not like me to post bad reviews, very guttered.

Sam Woo is a regular of ours. We have been going since 2017, when our son was 2. If you ask him where he would like to go out for dinner, 9 times out of 10 he will say Sam Woo and lick his lips. We love our regular choices of Sweet & Sour Pork, BBQ Pork Fried Rice and Shanghai noodle. We often take my parents here as they too love the food. The staff are friendly and their prices are affordable. Will be a regular for many years to come.

This place isnt the flashest & the staff have no uniform but the foods pretty good. Have been coming here for the last 7 years, portions and price are great. These are our faves. - Beef or Chic satay - Bbq pork egg fu yung - Deepfried springrolls - Bbq pork on rice Things we've tried but did not like - Lemon chic (too sweet/not lemony) - Singapore noodles (bland) - Wontong soup (bland) - Corn soup (bland) - Pork ribs (tough & not much meat) - Garlic prawns (way too much garlic)

Sam Woo’s food is value for money and delicious. The place is packed as usual during peak meal times. A favourite with locals and visitors. We ordered the lemon grass grilled pork and chicken as well as spring rolls and beef pho to share. Serving sizes were generous. Would recommend them all. The deep fried squid was a bit bland and not quite what we were used to so will give this a miss next time. Will happily come back.

I must admit I have a regular customer of Sam Woos for many years and up until now have been more than satisfied, BUT my latest visit I'm sorry to say was highly disappointing. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE !! Food very very average and it would have been better if the waitress (who I found out was new) gave us our correct order!! We were quickly served HOWEVER if you take an order and repeat it twice correctly, WHY OH WHY deliver the wrong dishes. The waitress was the MAJOR LETDOWN on this occasion, when I order sweet and sour chicken, don't give me sweet and sour pork..... reallyyyyyyyy. All but one of our dishes was wrong. We ordered combination vege dish with meats....... no meat. It was not a pleasant taste either YUCK. We ordered won ton deep friend and we get won ton soup???? come on seriously. YES we did complain and YES they did offer to remake our complete order but seriously we were starving and had already started to eat so advised them no we would finish but to my fault we should not have as they still charged the full amount and no leeway offered!! PATHETIC. Is this how you treat your customers Sam Woos??? Customer Service is my business - this was extremely poor and makes me think twice about repeating the experience. If you go people make sure that the waitress understands English and delivers what they promise. The food was mediocre, a let down on previous visits. I'm not in a hurry to return

My first impression of the place was it had a tired looking decor, however the tasty dishes far outweigh the tired decor. Always filled with customers. Always craving for their fried calamari/squid - absolutely well worth the drive from the North Shore. Highly recommend this delightful place. Great food all the time.

I haven't been there since the old owners sold up. I heard it wasn't the same anymore, so one night we were out near Otahuhu and thought let's try Samwoo. And I have to say, it's exactly the same, food still taste great and prices still low. Food portion is massive so sharing will be advisable if you're a small eater. Would come back for sure!

So I went to Try It Out (another Vietnamese Restaurant in Otahuhu) twice in one week - once for lunch and again for dinner and I wrote a trip advisor review after the first visit (and have to wait a month to write a second - not so nice - review!). At the lunch visit I had amazing food, but the same dish cooked at night later that week was a total let down. Different chefs, I guess, turn out the same dish differently. So, as a result of the inconsistency of food quality at Try It Out, we decided to visit and try out Sam Woo. Sam Woo is another basic restaurant. Decor nothing to write home about. Service nothing to write home about (we did a lot of the service ourselves!) but it is BYO and the staff are friendly and the food was good and cheap and plentiful. We asked for some dishes to be veganised and they managed to do that. We ordered an obscene amount of food (we didn't realise how big the plates would be) and it only came to around $23 per person. I personally would recommend the salt and pepper tofu and the summer rolls. The deep fried squid was liked by the non vegans at the table and another spicy squid dish got a thumbs up, as did the deep fried spring rolls. Sam Woo is cheaper than Try It Out and we will be going back. It is good for big groups. Definitely cheep and cheerful!

Family tradition to eat at Sam Woos. This time we ordered takeaway but tasted as if we were in the restaurant. Typical order looks like Jullian with springrolls, fried rice chicken is a family fav, pepper steak can never go wrong, spicy squid my daughter favourite, spring rolls, spare ribs and chips. Prices are the same as anywhere else. Taste is delicious.

This is a classic no-frills eating place. Decor ok, but laid back one could say. BUT the food is simply great and very well priced. No wimpy servings allowed here.

Cheap but taste is average, spring rolls not crispy & too much pepper, pork chop overdone & average taste.
