Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Decided to take the wife out for breakfast on Sunday looked up Google All Day Breakfast options in Papakura and was somewhat surprised that this Espresso Bar came up. To be honest I’d always considered it to be a cafe that catered for the Papakura...Police, Court employees and clients. Well it was Raining & and so we opted to try local instead of Coffee Club type establishment’s that know how to charge like wounded bulls and you have to wait. Gosh there was a park right aside, So I said to the wife let’s give it a try. We were the only customers and if I remember correctly it was about 10.30am -11am, it appeared to be very small but we were surprised that it had another room that could hold another 20 odd dinners. Anyway the menu was easy to understand, I ordered the Cafe All Day Breakfast and the Wife Bacon & Eggs on toast with hot drinks for both. While waiting only a few minutes for our orders to be served, another three families arrived and the place was soon filling up. I was rather bewildered that payment was not asked for when ordering. Gosh it was warm and Cosy, the staff were excellent and the breakfast, not a crumb was left on either plate, What a pleasant surprise, and I also noted when paying the bill, they also had beer Wine and Spirits to boot. I will definitely be recommending the Mottletop Espresso Bar to family and friends, the menu was comprehensive and not very expensive, rather you get what you pay for, excellent value for money,More

Travelling with a heavy cold and warned by my wife to keep up my fluid intake and avoid coffee I stopped off here to have soup for lunch. They offered a lovely broccoli, corn and spinach soup with toasted multi- grain bread and then I...reluctantly ordered a cup of tea doubting that any cafe can make half-way decent tea since so few can. How wrong I was! They served up a good robust pot of English Breakfast that I really enjoyed. I would highly recommend this cafe.More

I've passed Mottletop many times but until today I've never been in. My wife and I were looking for morning tea and we wanted to try somewhere new. We were keen to avoid the major franchises. Not because I have anything against them, I just...wanted some individuality. I got it. there is a comfortably retro feel about the place. A mish mash of different furniture and decor. All of it clean, neat and tidy. I spent some time browsing through an old set of Encyclopedia Britannicas that were on one of the book shelves. The coffee was hot and strong. They were using a dark roast, perhaps a little bitter. There were a good range of soft drinks which is ideal for my wife who doesn't drink coffee. We had home made cheese and onion scones. They were delicious. We will certainly return.More

My wife and I went in for breakfast last sunday andwerepleased with the lookof the café.Wonderful retro stuff etc. But coffee was weak and just white on top. I had asked for a triple latte but it was like a single..What this barista doesn't realise...is by serving up rubbish customers don't return! A strong coffee with crema on top is why most customers come in the first place! it might explain why we were the only 2 customers in there on a sunday morning disappointingMore

Couldn’t improve on this place, very clean, well run, fresh food and very good drink. We were en-route from Bay of Islands to night stop before Northern Explorer. Handy, excellent and reasonable prices.

This is becoming a Saturday ritual. It nice to sit and read a paper, look out side and plan for the day. Why? Its nice decor, can sit outside and the homemade food is very good. 4 stars.

Found this spot when we needed breakfast in Papakura. Very friendly and helpful staff, good food and coffee. A minor mistake was made with our order and their apologies and efforts to make amends were almost embarrassing, great customer service.

Unfortunately, my favourite Papakura coffee spot - the once-bustling Mottletop at the southern end of the town centre - has slumped badly. TRisha the lovely co-owner is gone, and the staff too. The coffee just undrelines how important all factors are: beans, roast, grind, machine...and barista. The new owners dismissed the existing staff because they apparently had their own staff to bring, and overnight the coffee became brown gritty water. The cabinet food has declined noticeably (quality and range) and the new counter format has a row of plastic self-serves that wouldn't look out of place in a greasy spoon - set on the lovely wooden counter almost like a defensive fortification. The morning crowd, happy busy and social, has fled. I won;t be back.More

I had arranged to meet up here with friends here as it was a convenient location and on the few occasions I'd visited in the past, it had been good. It was a disappointing experience this time. The service was ordinary and the coffee very...slow arriving in spite of the fact that the cafe wasn't busy at the time.More

Small place with a weird name but don't let that stop you. Far more Han just for the espresso but that was excellent too. Great breakfast spot and quick to get to from Drury or Takanini.
