Wine, dine and enjoy this wonderful Auckland seaside wine bar!

My how this wine bar has blossomed! The vibe is amazing with live music most nights and the place brimming with happy guests enjoying a wine or beer in the sunshine and relaxed seaside ambience. Don't go past the fried chicken! Just a little spicy and deliciously moist! Pizzas, platters and other small and large dishes provide plenty of options to enjoy while having a great NZ wine or two. Their selection of NZ wines is excellent and it's wonderful to see them showcased in such a lovely bar. You can choose a flight of wines by region or variety, or just enjoy a bottle with friends. They also have an off-license so you can pick up your favourite tipple at great prices to take home. The close proximity to public transport is another plus with ferry, train and bus terminals 5 minutes stroll. You will find the service is quick and the wait staff are friendly and know their wines! Take a walk down to Shed 22 Princes Wharf and you will see the buzz before you get there. I would advise you to book a table as it is so popular!

Love Somm!

We had such a great, easy meal at Somm! We read about it in the Air New Zealand magazine and decided to try it because of its great location on the harbor. The small plates were a perfect assortment of unique flavors - and there was something for everyone in our family of five. Plus the service was amazing - our server Doug was so friendly and knowledgeable - He even ran after us when we left something at the table!

Nice wine bar atmosphere

Based on another review, we decided to try Somm and had a marvelous experience! Each of us had a Pinot noir wine flight and each wine selection was very good. The staff was helpful and informative. We ordered a cheese plate and a charcuterie which was just the right amount for 3 people. Even though it was warm and very sunny- we suggest they buy sunshades- we enjoyed our time and the wine very much!

lovely location for lunch

Hani, the waitress was fabulous- friendly and professional and engaging. We had the August restaurant month lunch and the portions are small but adequate for a light lunch. The charcuterie board was tiny but the pizza bases were exceptional, just like a Neapolitan pizza which is hard to find in Auckland ( often the bases we have had are not pillowy and puffy and are mostly flat and crunchy) so well done Somm on getting the base perfect! The toppings are more spartan than I expected but then for $30 per person I realise you cannot expect a more lavish meal. The waitress is definitely an asset to the establishment. Sitting on the covered deck on a wintry afternoon turned out to be gorgeous and it certainly felt like summer when the sun appeared from behind thick clouds.

An iconic cellar door and wine bar

The location, fit out, friendly staff and great service, stunning food and superb beverage offering have made Somm one of the most iconic venues in Auckland. I have revisited several times and am always greeted with a smile and a 'welcome back'. The menu rotates regularly based on seasonality which I love but also maintains it's classics year round. The happy hour oysters are so fresh and the best deal in town! This is also the perfect event venue for stand up or sit down. Absolutely love this venue and can't wait to go back.

Relaxing lunch

We had an amazing lunch for three starting with Hummus, Crudo (stunning) & the Charcuterie platter and finished with the crispy fried chicken, the signature steak and a nice side salad. This was all washed down with a fantastic Vavasour Sav Blanc & a Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon from California. Classy with great service without being overly expensive.

Not Happy

Would not recommend . Staff did not look happy and were not welcoming . Pizzas were not great . Halloumi gnocchi dish was yum though and the one dessert on Menu was yum . Very few diners there whilst we were there for 3 hours also ?! Part of Soul bar group ? Very very disappointing

Awesomeness!

Visiting from Sydney, Somm was recommended to us and didn’t disappoint. There was a power outage while we were there which didn’t phase any of the staff, they dealt with it like champs - it added to the already fantastic atmosphere. Food was lovely, wine was great and the staff were amazing. Highly recommend!

One of the best wine bars in southern hemisphere.

This place is great! The decor is wonderful as is the service. I had an appetizer and pizza and both had fresh ingredients and were very good! The wine selection is good. The owners also own a handful of wineries in New Zealand. It’s easy to figure out which ones by looking at their cellar list. The prices are okay on there average wines but is little pricey on there best bottles. They strictly have New Zealand wines which is a little disappointing. Also most of their red wines are stored at room temperature which is not the best. It’s best if they’re served a little cooler.

Great music exceptional service

I just read a review by a lady named Amy and I was there the same night and heard how rude she complained and it just wasn’t our experience. The music was fantastic not too loud and they WERE playing Jazz!!??!! A hens party did arrive but we overheard them say they came in because the musicians were there and we’re not surprised as we follow this duo too they’re really well known and very talented . They did ask for some up tempo songs to keep their celebrations going but this was well after 7pm and they very soon reverted back to Jazz and some Carpenters and Blues it was fabulous . We really enjoyed it and it wasn’t too loud at all, the hens party yes were louder but moved on and they’re allowed to be there too???? Gosh a massive and popular establishment can’t cater to two women who wanted to talk all night in silence ????? We love SOMM and how inclusive it is and appreciate the live music KEEP IT UP!!

Great atmosphere and drinks, reasonable price

After having been here for after-work drinks a couple of times ($7 drinks happy hour!) I went back for a date night dinner with my husband. Atmosphere is great, especially love the live music, interior is moody neutral, and just right for any occasion. Food was ok (can’t really complain too much though as we took advantage of the Restaurant Month set menu), drinks are better. Love their wine flight options. Very reasonably priced. Service is average but that’s been pretty much the same everywhere post covid. Definitely coming back. Highly recommend. I chose the indoor seats but they have a sheltered outdoor area where you can enjoy water view.

Perfect spot for an evening of beautiful wine and food

Beautiful spot tucked away along Princes Wharf, offering a cellar door experience and a fantastic menu. We visited last night as a group of 8 women for the Church Road set menu and it was fantastic. The service was great, and the food was delicious. We had a table perfectly positioned to the rear of the restaurant which would be ideal for groups of our size, with very comfortable seating including the cushioned bench. Will definitely visit again, highly recommend.

Amazing birthday experience

We were a group of ten people celebrating a birthday and we all had an amazing experience. The staff is attentive, the service is superb and the food quality and quality was just perfect. They allowed us to bring a cake and even provided the candles that I forgot to bring. Thank you team for making our celebration so memorable

Wine Tasting by the Waterfront

Had lunch with an old friend at Somm on a Sunday afternoon. It was my first time there, having been recommended it by a colleague. What a great restaurant! I’ve been wine tasting at vineyards many times, but to bring the idea into a restaurant in the heart of the City with delicious food and great staff is genius. We had the Central Otago flight of wines, antipasto and pizzas. Delicious! Will be back.

This new restaurant is in a great spot on Princes Wharf. Excellent wine list plus flights of varieties and regions. Food was great. It has only been open for a couple of weeks and so it was a bit quiet, but I’m sure that will change as the word gets out.
