We enjoyed the ice cream because it had excellent execution of the flavours. They add toppings to it and can do some pretty elaborate configurations. Even with the regular ice cream on a cone they were asking us which ice cream topping combo we wanted...on the top based on the ice cream flavours we picked. Kind of complicated so we can see why some people have troubles making decisions while in the line. They help by allowing people to "skip the line" and ordering online but it might also help if they had a second sign at the end of the regular line as well. The location is kind of odd. It isn't really near anything and has a small semi-enclosed space for eating it and a collection area off to the side which is an alley for cars. In my opinion this dessert spot isn't in the best area of Auckland with a nearby gentlemen's club and liquor store. The ice cream is very good and we enjoyed the hokey pokey and hazelnut/chocolate flavour.More
Never a disappointment. I highly recommend visiting this place as something to do while in Auckland City. Staff member was on her own this night, and it was still outstanding fast service.
Giapo used to be good. Not anymore. We started going to Giapo everytime we were in Auckland since 2018. And everytime it was amazing. But today we went and I was absolutely let down. For starters, the size of the cones has shrunken. The cones...themselves are smaller. So by default, you get less ice cream. Fine... I get the "shrink-flation" factor in this day and age. But here was the huge let down: at the counter, I asked the girl straight up "Do you still coat the inside of the standard waffle cone with chocolate?" She said "Yes absolutely." So I said okay, I want that. Because it's my favourite part and it is what makes Giapo so awesome. Well, I got my cone. It was small. I bit into the cone and it didn't have any chocolate inside at all. So I went and showed her and she thought it was a mistake on the order. 5 minutes later she came back and said "So my bad, we used to coat inside of the cones with chocolate but we don't anymore." She didn't offer me a refund or another cone as a consolation. That is called a BAIT AND SWITCH and it is illegal in retail. So I spent $15 for an ice cream cone that used to be double the size and tasted better, and I bought it after being told misinformation. Giapo - the owner..... listen up man. If you want Cher to come back to your once awesome establishment, if you want anyone to keep buying your ice cream, do yourself a favor: don't skimp on your product. I will never come back if this is what it has been reduced to. I was utterly underwhelmed by what I got today. I was sad frankly. Giapo was something I looked forward to every trip to Auckland. Now I see it as a total rip off. If you are going to charge $15 for a cone, at least put chocolate inside like you used to. Don't ruin that part on top of making your cones smaller and ice cream sizes smaller too. I get inflation is hitting you. It's hitting everyone. But honestly.... don't let it ruin what used to be magical about your ice cream. I won't be back and I'm so sad. :(More
We traveled 35 days through New Zealand and Australia, and I can easily say this was the worst ice cream experience of our trip. How the heck does it get decent reviews? The ice cream was overly soft, overly drippy, and overly cloyingly sweet. They're...more about their ice cream "concoctions" (can you say Instagram?) than they are about quality ice cream. I feel sorry for Auckland if this is really the best they can do ice cream-wise.More
Amazing ice cream, a bit pricey. For four scoops of ice cream for four people, our total was $60. Although the cones were good, a drizzled pretzel cone is not equal to $19. Wish the seating arrangement was a bit better planned out, no tables...to sit down at. Workers were very friendly and helpful, and explained everything as well as let you taste everything. Definitely worth it for the experience, and would love to come back and try more flavors.More
We visited Giapo because we saw an article “Best Desserts in Auckland” and Giapo was listed as number 3. We ordered 2 small tubs, one with Double cream hokey pokey and one with Christchurch hazelnut with milk choc topping. Both ice creams were delicious, but...I have to say I was not super impressed. I have had better desserts than this ice cream. It is very pricey, and you can probably get something similar or better and pay half the price you would pay in Giapo.More
A hidden little shop with very different flavors, toppings & cones! Although the ice creams are amazing the best place is not cozy… and they don’t accept cash or Amex…
Delicious and unique ice cream only you can find here. You get value for your money. I would definitely come back to try their other flavors.
The people behind this ice cream store are artists. The creations are so beautiful but they are a meal in themselves. Don't plan on having dinner after one of these :)
Giapo is always amazing. I asked for Giapo himself to help me choose and ended up with the Tutti Nutty - perfection. I always love coming here when in Auckland. I just wish they were open more because I would eat here every day!
You need to save room for this! Giapo ice creams are insanely tasty!! Its like walking into an art gallery specifically for desserts, but you get to create and eat your masterpiece!!! A must do after dinner or just anytime!! But a must do!!
The ice creams are excellent and really tasty, I recommend them 100%. It's not for nothing that it's always busy. A real delight and a lot of choice!
I had been to Giapo before and thought it was amazing so went back with friends. This time it was pretty disappointing and I wouldn't return again. The icecream is nice and it's cool you get to trial them before ordering but the toppings and...cones were nowhere as awesome as when I went the first time. The little finger cones no longer exist and I remember crazy toppings with popcorn etc it was like art. Now it is more like a squiggle of mousse/meringue/Nutella with a few nuts on top.More
Great customer service from the instant you’re greeted at the door. You’re run through the creating process of making your ice cream, where they happily answer your silly questions with a smile. Good ice creams too, albeit a lil pricy, but great for a date...option to help finish the nightMore
