Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hidden in a back industrial street in Parnell is Barulho a Spanish treat! Intimate modern decor and a good varied reasonably priced menu with both larger and smaller dishes available.
Some good NZ and Spanish wines available by the glass.
Staff are friendly and attentive.
Will definitely be back!

Off the beaten track in an industrial part of Parnell is a corner of vibrancy and life with a bar and a restaurant. Barulho is a Portuguese/ Spanish tapas restaurant. Lost of delicious sharing plates of various sizes and some nice wines by the glass.
Easy on street parking available free after 6pm.
I will be back for some delicious food.

Great neighbourhood restaurant based in the back streets of Parnell. Definitely worth venturing out of the city to visit. Plenty of on street parking outside.
Good service from friendly staff.
Spanish / European style menu with dishes for sharing or main meal options.
Well presented food with reasonable portions and value.
Will definitely be back!

Parnell is the domain of the beautiful people and many frequent Barulho, and we are wannabe beautiful Parnell people too, so had to visit this place. And indeed as we dodged the Range Rovers parked wherever the hell their owners wanted (organised parking is for the little people Annabelle!) we arrived in this haven from the common herd! Aging bottle blondes dripping with bling everywhere! Decor pleasant and modern and ambiance is good. Youngish serving staff attentive and helpful. Limited but ok wine list where the star of the show is one of the cheapest but excellent choices, the Rioja Riserva.
Only problem was some of the food. The menu is fairly limited but it is nice to see dishes that are broadly Mediterranean/ South American inspired. If only they stayed with the original recipes! We had the beef empanadas which were average at best. Hard pastry and just a few chunks of beef inside. The real deals are softer, larger, made of minced beef with more spices and don’t need an accompanying sauce to ease them down. Then the market fish ceviche, which was perfect, and the manchego and jalapeño croquettes which were blah, mushy and not much heat from the chili. Avoid.
We ordered the smoked paprika octopus which we had been warned by an earlier diner could be tough, and it sure was. Like chewing on bungy cord. It was so tough we didnt finish it and there were too many other elements all competing in the dish. Grilled octopus Med style is a simply dish where the quality of the octopus speaks for itself. Doesn’t need anything more than a squeeze of lemon and grind of pepper. Needs a complete rethink sadly for what should be a signature dish. The side dish of eggplant was very good however.
The desert was a Portuguese tart which was horrific to look at- just egg custard piled into what looked like an empty brown potato skin but was actually supposed to be pastry. No delicious casing and rim of baked buttery puff pastry Lisbon style (no darling don’t get excited- that was Lisbon not...). The best thing going for it was the lightly grilled banana on the side. We also had the olive oil mousse which was pleasant.
Overall impression is there is potential here but the food selection and presentation lets it down. Dishes need to be simplified and made great.

A busy little restaurant on the night we were there. The menu was quite wide which gave plenty of choice. The food was average, some dishes being very good whilst others were poor. Service was average.

We returned for a birthday meal based on a prior visit. Food was great but totally let down by one on our mains not being written down by waitress. So we were left with one main and kitchen closing. Response was basically oh dear that's too bad. Really let down given I took my wife there for my birthday. The staff including manager couldn't have cared less. Very disappointed, very arrogant attitude.

Very enjoyable meal with friends and we all enjoyed the tapas. Started with margaritas or two, so we were off to a great night.

Look at the floor and you suddenly realize you are in a car park-but one where a corner that might have had a car wash is a very luxe tapas bar with plenty of very nice seating spilling out onto the pavement. Food is some of the best in town. Wine list fair and maybe with a mixologist this place will be perfect. Will be back again.....and again.....and again...

Simply the best tapas in Auckland. Food is always great and Nico is an amazing host. Ask for the Cillian ginger margarita - simply addictive!

Lots of plates to share or just keep to yourself. Cool arty yet casual vibe. It’s small so you might no get a table. Go early! Great for a casual date.
