We were there for a friends birthday lunch. The food was excellent and so was the service. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable. I tried booking for my birthday but they were fully booked on that date. I will get in earlier next time. I will...definitely be back.More

My wife and I booked a dinner date at the Girafffe to celebrate our special day. On arrival we were led to our table by a friendly waitre but it was no problem when we chose a different place to sit. Service by all staff,...especially David, was friendly, professional and not invasive. Menu is simple but we could easily choose any of the main options. All food was what we expected - great. Catch of the day and Angus steak were both delicious and perfectly made. When we booked online we ticked an "anniversary" box in the optional section to see what that means. We were presented with a lovely message that arrived with our dessert. A nice touch. I don't tend to write reviews very often. I pay back by repeat visit and giving recommendations to friends when I'm satisfied. I don't come back when I'm not. We will be back to dine at the Giraffe soon. We visited Giraffe almost a year ago and had a lovely meal scoring it a high 4/5. This time it has scraped in with a 3, just. Firstly the cocktails which were amazing last time were very average this time. A Cosmo tasted more of...lemon than anything else and a Strawberry Daiquiri tasted of Cranberry. Neither were enjoyed and this was raised with the staff though no replacements or offer of discount was made. Aside from the taste for the restaurant being at Max 1/4 capacity the cocktails were very slow to arrive. The main meals were OK but again compared to last year where we described the duck as the best duck ever this years duck which we were excited to experience a repeat performance was very blah. The duck was slightly over cooked but still edible. The disgrace was charging $38 for half a breast. The portion size the last time we visited was about double and consisted of both breast and leg. The one and only shining star on the duck dish was a solitary carrot. Best carrot ever! Delicious! But seems quite ridiculous that one carrot was the nicest part of a main meal. The fish was perfectly cooked but very luckily we had asked for the sauce on the side - the sauce was VERY heavy handed on the chilli and totally overpowered the fish so a lucky escape that we asked for it on the side. We decided to risk it as we were quite hungry still, and try the desserts. Last visit the desserts let Giraffe down a little compared to the mains. This visit there was no improvement. All the three desserts we had were fine but none were delicious. We were so looking forward to a repeat performance and we feel let down. The only saving grace was when we had last dined we had received a voucher for 4 complimentary cocktails. If we hadn’t had the voucher our moods would have been completely shot. We all agreed we won’t be back.More

Came here for a drink/dinner with my partner the other night and absolutely loved it! Staff were so welcoming and friendly, you could tell they genuinely wanted us to have the best experience. The waiter asked what we wanted to drink and surprised us with...our cocktails. He absolutely nailed what we were after and they were delicious! Food came out quickly and was lovely, fresh and different! It was a beautiful sunny evening and a great spot to be. Definitely recommend, it was busy and I could see the staff were working very hard, but they always tended to us well. 10/10More

Went here for brunch yesterday while in Auckland for America’s Cup. Absolutely horrified at what was served to our group of 11. If I was Simon Gault I would be mortified to have my name remotely associated with this place. Thought we would go here...for a treat to enjoy some top class food. Even my kids could do better than what we were given and they don’t even cook! Smashed Avo was pulverised purée that tasted like it came out one of those tubes from the supermarket for when they out of season. Must have been heated at some stage as had that horrible bitter taste to it. The Omelette was a flat rubbery thing that they forgot to put the cheese on and just literally threw a handful of extra things on. Presentation , technique, taste 0/10. God knows what we would have got for $18 if we didn’t pay the $6 extra to get any filling! One of our coffees was just warm milk with a drop of coffee and they forgot one completely. Service was abrupt and verging on non existent. To be fair we didn’t have a booking so it was great that they accommodated us but the restaurant was virtually empty except for a handful of obvious regulars just doing coffee that were being fawned over. Only positive from our group was that the orange juice was excellentMore

‘Poached’ eggs came out hard boiled. Hash browns are just packet ones from the super market! Could’ve done a better job at home.

Visited twice in 2 days. On each occasion, an item we requested wasn’t available. One meal VERY delayed on day one. Incorrect coffee brought twice. Our drinks delayed ‘because of trendy take away clients’. Nice setting, and nice food if you get it. Won’t be...backMore
