We love Indian food, but we didn’t expect to be eating it in Auckland. We came here to join a cruise of NZ/AUS starting in Auckland. We had several free nights to explore the culinary scene here. A driver recommended 1947 Eatery as one of...the best Indian restaurants, and he was right. We started with Pani Puri (a crispy-fried puffed ball filled with spiced potato and served with tamarind spiced water added); it was amazing! We continued with Tandoori Chicken (excellent), Spinach Kofta (mmmm), and Achaari Baigab (eggplant tossed in a spicy pickle sauce). All were tasty, but the eggplant was our clear favorite. Don’t miss this excellent restaurant!!!More

Name of the restaurant is classic and it reminds Indians about our history. Drinks: Let’s be more generous with the one shot… Good selection of New Zealand Beers. Food: Limited selection, but we managed to try the best two dishes. Lamb Shank and Dum Chicken;...requested for medium hot, and it came with heaps of heat. I had to order a Mango lassi, which helped me cool off. Service: Everyone is quite friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Con: 3% surcharge for using credit card, ok, we had no clue, until we saw the transaction from our end. Gently; remind customers about the surcharge.More

We were in search of authentic Indian food in Auckland on the last night of our stay, and 1947 did not disappoint! We thoroughly enjoyed the Poni Puri, Samosa Chaat, Lamb Shank Nihari, and Chicken Biryani. The food and drinks were excellent and we would...definitely come back. The only negative was that service to our table was quite slow.More

Very tasty Indian food! A lot of different flavours, freshly made. I loved the design of the restaurant too, very contemporary. I wish this restaurant was situated in my hometown, so I could eat here more often!

Varun was an excellent waiter. We asked for his recommendation and it was a hit amongst our group! We were able to try a bit of each if the more popular dishes such as chilli chicken, lamb chops, butter butter, chicken and a few other...dishes. Would definitely recommend!More

The ambience is great and I have no complaint with the service, but the food was mediocre at best. The biriyani rice wasn't cooked properly (felt dry and stake), the Chicken Malai barely tasted like chicken and the Curry Chips tasted like fries doused in...a weird mayo-sambar combination. My wife booked the place for my birthday, but we were both disappointed by the food.More

Poor. Chicken dish- large amount of over spiced rice with a limited amount of chicken camouflaged within skin and bone. That was it! Total lack of effort. Still, at least the other main was average.

Really enjoyed our dinner at 1947. Good central location, friendly staff and delicious food. We are lucky to have great Indian food in our area of London, so we can be harsh critics. No need for that - 1947 was excellent!

We were in the mood for Chinese but after walking past the restaurant we had chosen, we weren't impressed and kept walking. And stumbled onto 1947 Eatery. Tuck away not far from the Sky Tower, the beautifully decorated restaurant offers Indian done a little differently....Not the huge menu often offered by some restaurants, 1947 offers a choice of snacks, small dishes, from the Tandoor and Chef's Specials. We decided to try the street samosa chaat (think a deconstructed samosa, so good) and of course, butter chicken with basmati rice and garlic naan. The food was amazing, the service impeccable and we were very happy we found 1947 Eatery.More

Hello everyone, I want to share my experience with you all over this 1947 eatery. I was there on the 3rd of may which was on my wife’s birthday. We came in for dinner around 7.30pm, while entering we were at the rest unattended for...atleast 10min trying to catch a eye of any of the waiters or host. We ordered drink and food, the food was great indeed but the service was so terrible. We had 4 different people serving us. No one looked at our table till we finished our dinner . It was my wife’s birthday on that day and I wanted to surprise her with a dessert made in house and informed the waiter about it in advance to which he said yes and never came back after that. I was waiting for him to come with a dessert plate with happy birthday on it but he seems to be nowhere. At last we had to leave the place in disgrace and utter sadness personally for ruining my wife surprise for her. We did ended up paying more for food inspite telling the waiter that we dint Oder this, the reply was more shocking from one of your waiter” ohhh you can take it home that fine “ and still got charged on my bill. That was quite rude from your end. Without arguing we paid and left the place as soon as we can . Sad to see such a good place and vibe getting served with bad service . I am a chef myself and been working in the hospitality industry from past 8years. Thanks for the great service 1947 eatery .More
