We flew into Auckland and went straight to the hotel. We spent two nights before the cruise departed. Whereever we went we were greeted warmly.

It’s a training restaurant, so you can’t expect perfection. Great value for money and the food is quite good.

This restaurant is part of the AUT university campus and functions as a place where students can learn the hospitality trade. The focus seems to be fine dining. The food is excellent and priced at a notional $10 per dish at lunch - I assume...that this is non-profit and perhaps subsidized. The wait for food was quite long - perhaps 30 minutes. The quality was high, the quantity was not that generous. There is a variety of mains and desserts. Alcohol is served. On a price basis, this is Cheap Eats, but on a quality and standards basis, this is Fine Dining. A rare combination. The student waitresses (overseen by an avuncular Maitre d' who is probably their professor) vary - in that some are excellent, others nervous. Don't go if you are in a rush - allow lots of time and be patient.More

for the $! -- 6 courses for $45 and only $5 dollars more -- $50 to add 2 matched 1/2 glasses of pinot gris or noir. Given the triple digit cost for almost ANY restaurant degustation, this Four Seasons @ AUT offers 2for1 at well...under a hundy or just $100 w/ 4 1/2 glasses of wine. Amazing! Tastes well worth the price. Check out the web site for opening hours and when this offer is active. It varies with the student training in the hospo program -- so be sure to check and defintiely make a reservation.More
