My husband and I stopped in here on our first day in New Zealand after touring Mount Eden. We grabbed a spot on the balcony, and it was the most perfect day to drink beer and look out over the harbor. The place is really large, especially on the inside. So come alone or bring a group! There seems to be something to eat and drink for everyone (a really great selection on beers, and they were well made). The prices are reasonable and the food was very tasty (we split 2 appetizers). I would definitely come back here as the staff was super friendly and there is nothing negative I could say about this place- even the restrooms are very clean! One thing I loved, that i started to notice was a "thing" in New Zealand is there are growlers full of water that you just grab for the table- I drink tons of water, so it's great that I don't have to bug a server for water.

Went there for lunch with my wife and mum, their service was great and we were served quite quickly even though the place was busy. Their selection of beer was amazing and they were all reasonably priced, the same goes for their food menu. Overall lunch there was a great experience their music and atmosphere was trendy and relaxing. On another note I did come by this place earlier during new years eve and my advice to any tourists wanting to enter the establishment, bring your original passport or a locally certified photocopy of it, otherwise you will be turned away as was our case during new years eve at around 6pm. My final say is that Dr Rudi's is a excellent establishment with great beer, food and atmosphere, just remember to bring along a valid ID.

Huge place with a couple of free bowling lanes. Fun vibe and decor. Pizza by the foot is kind of novel and they were accommodating with our requests for changes. Great little package of activities for our daughter. Food isn’t going to blow your mind but it was fresh and tasty and paired well with beers on tap.

at a great price. Despite being on the waterfront the food is very good and being at first floor level good views over the Viaduct. Very popular and today seasonal Bluff oysters at a great price of just $40 a dozen. Compare this to restaurant next door where they were charging $6 each. A worthy 5 star for that.

I always thought Dr Rudi’s was one of those noisy crowded bars for the party crowd along the viaduct. Undoubtedly it is on a weekend but someone we met recently recommended that we come here for their salmon wing tips which were supposedly the best in Auckland! We love fish so it was not a hard ask to go try it out. Liked: 1. The restaurant is right along the viaduct on the second level above the Holey Moley Golf place via a narrow staircase but once inside you will find it a spacious area with a few arcade games and a bowling area and pool table at the back of the dining room. 2. Service was friendly and accommodating and fairly quick. 3. We ordered a fabulous spread - oysters, salmon wing tips, a bottle of wine, tins and a few other bites. Everything was good. Good quality was excellent and the salmon wing tips- exceptionally crisp and exactly as recommended. 4. Loved the games area so we hung around a bit to play the arcade games. 5. Their dessert menu was a little limited with only one pizza dessert which was totally delicious with banana, whipped cream and chocolate - definitely worth the order. Definitely going back to this one when I’m next at the viaduct.

Hi Elaine, Thanks so much for your detailed feedback, what care you've taken! Very much appreciated :) We will just add that as much as we'd like too, we don't have a pool table unfortunately. We hope to see you again soon! Cheers, Rudi

We came on a late Saturday afternoon for a drink. It was lovely on the deck overlooking the boats, although the sun was pretty hot and not enough umbrellas. I ordered a gin and tonic $20 and my husband a beer $13. When I went to pay the bill was $37. After checking with her superior she was told something like they ran out of something so my drink was bigger than normal so I had to pay $4 more, they did this by the bill showing 2 bottles of something. After saying that was not my problem, charge me the $29 as advertised the man after about 10 minutes of fiddling with the bill managed to charge us the correct price of $20, so much mucking around when we were racing to catch a ferry, not happy

We had lunch here today. The salt and pepper squid was good but would have been even better had the waitress remembered to place the order - it was her first day so I will cut her some slack. The bluff oysters are in season. I had them for the first time and they were excellent. Draft beer was quite pricey but that me be the market price in Auckland. Great water view with many tour boats coming and going.

Beers brewed on site are excellent and there's a large selection of other quality brews, all on tap. Dining on the balcony is pleasant although yesterday we chose inside with aircon for a cooler lunch. Music blared and made conversation difficult and our varied menu selection was average ... kingfish tacos were ok but too little kingfish, and difficult to share. Pizza had a soggy base and topping which congealed too quickly. Salt and pepper squid was tender and the salad ok. Shoestring chips failed to impress. A good venue outdoors for ppl watching and indoor dining better suited to a beer festival .

I have been here many many times over the years (probably too many times!) so can give an informed review. I have come for lunch and also been there during the night. Dr Rudi’s is excellent! Their cocktails are so good and love that you can watch them be made. The staff have always been so welcoming and on our last visit, we got there at a very busy time around 7pm, so there were no outside tables available. We got seated inside and not even 5 minutes later, our waiter came back saying a table had opened up outdoors and was ready for us! I highly recommend the pizza - it is very filling for the price. Their sliders and calamari is also very good and very tasty. Great place to catch up with friends.

I went into Dr Rudis on a Sunday evening for a couple of drinks with friends, they served us a bottle of wine to then come over to the table once glasses poured to announce we had too much to drink and took the bottle away. This is poor service in my mind. They shouldn’t have served us prior if they believed we were too intoxicated. We wasn’t behaving inappropriately nor disorderly. Poor service and poor judgment.

Aus Venue Co
Good Afternoon Izzy, I'm unsure if this review is meant for us or Headquarters as it seems you left the exact same review for both venues? As we are a licensed venue we are required by law to ensure that each and every one of the patrons is consuming alcohol in a safe manor. Unfortunately if you group did have a bit too much to drink (and judging by your bar crawl of various venues around the Viaduct - between us and Headquarters, this potentially could have been the case) you could be cut off and potentially asked to leave. We did have a few removals on Sunday based on intoxication and if you were with one of these groups I would be more than happy to talk more about your specific experience if you would like to reach out and provide some further details. Hope your group had a fun night regardless! vm.drrudis@nzvenueco.nz

Up an escalator this lively bar/restaurant has a great outlook over the harbour. Very popular with a great buzzy atmosphere. Lots of locals which is always a good sign. Service is speedy and a great drinks and meal offering. Rudi’s Lager is excellent as was the Squid Bowl......large and very tasty. Looking to go at peak times......always book a table.

We came in here at the last minute with a party of ten (hungry & jet-lagged) travelers and the restaurant (especially Liv...who is extraordinary!!!), handled us beautifully. With smooth professionalism, we were seated, orders taken, and food delivered in a timely manner by a staff (all directed by Liv) that soothed our "hangry" dispositions. The only drawback (as I noted to the manager) was that the music was at a level that prevented conversations from occurring. Other than that, this is a lively spot to go to, right on the water, in a perfect location for an Auckland evening. P.S. Liv should get a raise!

Hi Tim, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review, we appreciate it heaps! It's so great to hear you had an awesome experience and that Liv took great care of you! I would like to apologize that you found it difficult with the music volume, it can be hard to balance sometimes and some seats are definitely louder than others and for that we are sorry. Thank you for stopping in, and we would love to see you again! Kind regards, Rudi

I’ve been to Rudi’s several times as it was always chosen by friends. It has very little to recommend it for a variety of reasons. The positives are the, predominantly, lovely staff and the view over the Viaduct Harbour. The negatives are the noise… dear God, have a DJ by all means but not relentlessly thumping music so loud that you can’t hear the person next to you speaking. The pizzas are awful, the bases the main problem as they have that overwhelming flavour and texture of cardboard. Finally the liquor prices are exorbitant… you must be making a killing given how sober I was after five expensive cocktails across the evening… I felt guilty I wasn’t picking up the tab… and $14 for a Corona??? Not recommended in the slightest.

A bar after my own heart. Ale brewed on the premises, waterfront location and great outside balcony. Dr Rudi’s you made my afternoon. The ales on tap are plentiful, the views over the harbor nice, and staff really friendly. There was no rush, no hassle to order, and no ‘ interference’ when enjoying your drinks We tried two of the beers on tap but didn’t eat although the pizza looked fab At the back there is two bowling runs which are free to use but you can’t book them unless a larger group The bar itself has an industrial themed feel going down with plenty of tables and good standing areas too Toilets clean (always a bonus) During our short stay in your City we will be back Dr Rudi

A bit on the pretentious side, with a bit too much customer screening for our liking. Middle aged couple looking to try their beer and have lunch, resulted in reservations only. Drunk rowdy twenty something group, not even spoken to and welcomed in. Won't bother in future.
